Oh my, this game gets real quick, real fast!
I love that you have a working leaderboard, and the gameplay feels nice, I feel like the speed might scale up too quick, though? That's a bit of a preference i guess. There is one thing that i'd improve though, since the game can get so fast-paced, you can missclick when it ends, maybe a "continue" screen before the powerups show, or a confirmation button?
Fun game, easy to pick up but hard to master, great work!
Cheers :D
Yeah, it's tricky trying to gauge how quickly to ramp things up. Last year, we felt we ramped up the difficulty too slowly with a different game, so this time we decided "short and sweet" was the way to go, but you're right, there's a preference factor there.
Your other suggestion is also a good one, I think it's something that we as devs overlooked because we'd subconsciously have a feeling for when upgrades were about to pop up (30 seconds, 45 seconds, and 60 seconds, and the screen becomes devoid of meteors right before it happens).
Thanks for the comments, and thanks for playing!!
You're welcome! It was fun! :D
Agreeing with the the previous post, great game!
Enjoyable and creative mechanic! A bit tricky to master but it is consistent. I feel it would work better if the level was bigger.
I'm not convinced by the pterodactyl following the mouse. Using the keyboard and assigning the pterodactyl a movement speed would work better IMO.
The visuals are simple but effective.
I like that you get upgrades from time to time.
Lots of nice details like the color customizer and the scoreboard.
The attack sfx has low volume, I barely noticed it.
Thanks for the feedback! We were having issues with direct mouse control while hiding the cursor in the html5 build, so in the current game it's actually just taking mouse x and mouse y as an input and applying it based on a multiplier, which is why I added the mouse sensitivity option. I never actually tested it with keyboard controls but I suspect it would make the game significantly more difficult.
Still, I'm bothered I could never figure out how to get the mouse cursor to disappear at the right times without the user clicking to recapture the mouse to the app (which is why sometimes the mouse appears off of the pterodactyl). Unfortunately documentation for html5 in this old version of unreal is sparse so I just couldn't polish that part to my liking.
Anyway, thanks for playing! We both really liked your game.
Oh man... I'm aware that HTML always brings unexpected issues. And still, I know that mouse movement mechanics are tricky to implement. But yet you made an awesome game. Congratulations!
Really fun game! Cool mechanics involving bouncing of the meteors! I got 2 OP powerups in a row and was basically playing 1-player pong (meteors dont damage or kill + unlimited mouse-hold attacks).
Great accessibility options as well, allowing customization of sensitivity was a nice touch.
Great submission!
Legit one of my favorite games I've played so far in this jam! I love the graphics, love the mechanics, thank you for putting a tutorial in the beginning of your game, i mean this was just fantastic! 5 all across for me. I'm just sad I can't download it to my computer for easy access but I'll add this one to my collection to come back and play it later. 100% victory, sir.
Aww, thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed it!
The game is fun but too hard to play with my trackpad, I'll have to test it tonight on my gaming PC :) (yeah I'm rating games while I'm at work but shhhh)
Thanks for trying it out anyway! We knew it would be hard on a trackpad and I hoped the mouse sensitivity option would help that a little bit, but it's definitely intended to be played with a mouse.
Nicely executed, enjoyed the upgrades in particular as a feature! Good use of scenery changing to show "health status" too
great game, loved the gameplay loop and upgrades. there was a sense of panic trying to destroy all the meteors. such fun.
In full-screen mode some bits of text are missing on the side of the tutorial screen. Probably because I've got a 16:10 screen (2560x1600)
How is "double rate of meteors" an Upgrade ?
Dang, we thought it would add padding for resolutions like that instead of cutting off text. We'll look into that.
The "double rate meteors" is the only way either of us have managed to get scores as high as 10k+ while playtesting. You really need the "slow meteor chain" upgrade too, but those two combined with enough luck and quick reflexes, the increased number of meteors leads to longer chains, and longer chains lead to exponential score growth.
But it's definitely a high risk, high reward upgrade to pick. Thanks for your comment, and thanks for playing!
Really good job, it reminded me of classic flash games, in a good way!
Really loved this one! The meteor mechanic is really satisfying and the difficulty curve feels just right. Absolutely love the art! great job
Love the game. The art style is good and the gameplay is nice.
I did around 550 and it was really hard.
Really great game!
I liked the pacing of how the meteors ramped up in intensity. I feel like that was dialed in quite well. Definitely an addictive game and the different upgrade paths make multiple playthroughs feel fresh as you try to figure out which upgrades you like the most.
Awesome job!
This was quite original, I like the gameplay, the art style was good, I didn't get that far, around 500 score it was really difficult for me, I just qualified for a highscore though, i'm not used to fast paced games, and i'm old :D good job, one of the better games i've seen so far :)
Nice concept, fun game. This is one of the more enjoyable game I have played (for this jam) so far.
Nice fun game. What could be improved is the UI. "How many hits can the ground take".
The speedup of the meteors during the game. It is way to fast for learning how chaining works.
The combo system is awesome! feels like a fresh take on the "missile command" type game
Also just a suggestion, but maybe a vertical aspect ratio would work better? (since you can see the asteroids flying in & you can chain more asteroids as a result)
Overall amazing job! I also love that you guys included a leaderboard & color picker for the pterodactyl
We're considering doing some more work to it and porting it to mobile, I agree a vertical aspect ratio could be cool, we just wanted to make a full screen pc game for this jam. Thanks for playing!
Love it, you really have got the fun here.
And dinosaurs saving the planet, what a novel concept!
Awesome game, I love the chaining mechanic, and I have to know how you implemented the high score table! Great level of polish, very cool game! Will come back and play again!
HELL THIS IS FUN! perfect score from me!! So many features in, incl upgrades and… what? a color picker for my character? lol, fantastic^^
Thanks so much for the kind words!! Glad you appreciate the color picker, my buddy decided to implement that on a whim one morning, and we loved it.
