That was a fun little game.  The difficulty ramps up a ton after the first wave.

Developer

Hey ifman1, glad you got some enjoyment out of our little game :)

Submitted(+1)

Fun game but quite difficult. Maybe having the character repair the walls automatically when he's near them would make the controls easier instead of having to press a key.

Developer

Hey Serioussamko! You know what a few others have also pointed out that suggestion...sounds like it would be worth checking into and at least seeing what people think! Thanks again for commenting!

Submitted(+1)

Almost made the leaderboard..  you guys really got something here!

Developer

Hey 5StoneGameStudios thanks for playing and man at this stage in the game almost making it to the leaderboard is a really impressive feat :D I'm glad you had fun!

Good game. I particularly liked the fluid animations and the tense music. I found it a bit difficult, but I reckon that with practice and given time, one may fair better. Great job!

Developer

Hey lorporlem! Thanks for giving our game a shot! And no worries you are by far not the only one who found the game punishing! I think we could have handled the difficulty settings better and we have learned a lot from this experience. Thanks again for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Really dig the art style and concept! I like how it's a defense game but with a twist

Developer

Thanks for playing remarkable! I really enjoyed your game with in-game code editor.

Submitted(+1)

217 was my best, it feels very polished in all aspects, I would say that maybe some turret spots are weaker than others making said turrets almost useless, I wish they could shoot inside aswell. The best part for me is shooting the revolver it feels very good ! Visually its nice and coherent, great sfx and music aswell.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for playing samu and 217 is a great score! Thank you for the feedback about the turret spots we'll look to adjust those post jam. I enjoyed swinging my samurai sword like a shogun in defending Benkei Bridge!

Submitted(+1)

Such a well-designed game. Purrfectly on theme and incredibly pretty and unique art style. Love the setting and animations too, so much detail and polish! Great game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks Putti! My youngest brother who did the music and sound effects for our game especially appreciated the theme of your Music Stand game.

Submitted

Aww, that's nice. Just noticed by your author names you guys are probably all sibling? That's super cool, it already seems like you are such a grooved in team with great skillsets tto make something this polished in a jam.

Developer(+1)

Yes we are! Andrew and I (Eric) are twin brothers and we both do programming and art (although my brother is wayyyy better at art than me) and Brian is our youngest brother who is really into music and luckily for us to make games also sound effects. Brian went on a work trip right as the game jam ended so he hasn't been able to post in the forums much but he's looking forward to trying all the games Andrew and I have found while he's been gone including Music Stand!

Submitted(+1)

It's great you have this relationship and shared passion for game dev. I hope to see plenty more from you guys! This submission is so polished I was surprised it was the only game on your itch pages. I hope I can get the Music Stand update out for Brian's turn on the game so you guys can finally play and see the full gameloop and ending. Thanks for the chat, hope to see more from you guys, possibly crossing paths again at some future game jams!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much that is super encouraging for us to hear! Definitely hope to see you in future jams!

Submitted(+1)

Great game! Enjoyed playing it a lot.

Developer(+1)

Thank you Teharra! Actually, after playing your Witch's Grasp game my brothers and I were contemplating something like that for our next jam if we can fit the theme. Really inspiring work!

Submitted(+1)

Aww really?! I am so humbled. I really went into this blind and everyone has been so kind.  :) If you guys ever want to collaborate on something for a jam, look me up! I've been checking out the visual novel jams coming up -- there are some amazing/challenging sounding ones! :D (and I would 100% recommend Ren'Py for engine ... once you explore it a little you'll know why it's the visual novel engine go to).  :)

Developer(+1)

That sounds really exciting! Ok we will definitely keep you posted! It would be awesome to try one of those jams that focuses on visual novels.

Submitted(+2)

I would love that! :) Just let me know :)

Submitted(+1)

Amazing game! Too bad I'm terrible at this type of game :( But I liked how complete it is, the consistent style, and the desperation when reloading bullets hahaha. Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much Mayra! The desperation when reloading bullets was nothing next to the desperation I felt when I butchered some two digits subtractions and was facing a resulting multiplication with a zombie about to take a bite out of me;) I really enjoyed Night of Living Maths!

Submitted(+1)

We're very happy that you enjoyed them. I think none of the games are suitable for the anxious ones! Hahaha.

Developer(+1)

Haha yes Last Stand wasn't the most conducive theme for that ;)

Developer(+1)

yeah Eric and I both teach/taught math in some capacity so we loved your game haha!

Submitted(+1)

really good game. a lot of fun. Will you work on it after the jam?

Developer

thank you! We are planning to yes! It seems that folks are finding it fun and we have gotten some great feedback from the jam that we are excited to update the game with. Any features you’d like to see added?

Submitted(+2)

a slightly bigger room. but that's not really important.

Developer

thanks for the feedback 👍👍

Submitted(+1)

Hey,
This is a cool game. I liked the mechanics, aesthetics, and gameplay.

I like enemies trying to break through walls to reach you and also repair wall features.

Having a difficult option like easy, medium, or hard would be nice.

Overall very nice game :)

Developer

Thank you sairamyadla! I really enjoyed Duck Defense.

Including a difficulty adjustment setting has been a common request and we are looking to add that in post jam. We appreciate your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Your game is fantastic! Had such a great time, challenging and addicting. Inspired design choice to add black jack as an additional player decision and stress during the downtime, gives your jam a fun personality. Love the cowboy and the colorful mustache makes him pop. The way you implemented reload can easily be taken for granted for players but again, very smart immersive design that adds to the strategy.

Nice jam guys, thanks.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the kind words Rasblo! I showed my brothers Turtle Trouble and they both really enjoyed it as well :)

Developer(+1)

thank you for that kind review rasblo! Funny thing about that Blackjack mechanic. So Eric and I are identical twin brothers and when we were in college we rather spectacularly flunked out of an Intro to Computer Science Course. The assignment that sealed our doom…a simple command line Blackjack game. We just couldn’t figure it out and we both kind of said “well I guess we aren’t CS guys” flash forward to about a decade and a half later and we spent the last couple years learning programming from online resources and we decide to enter our first game jam. The Coup De Grace for our jam…a full implementation of Blackjack in our jam game! We feel redeemed! 😂😂😂 so anyway all that is to say that you enjoying our game and especially enjoying the Blackjack feature means a lot to us!

Submitted(+1)

Just goes to show, it's never too late! That's awesome :D Right back at you, thanks a lot.

Submitted(+1)

Really impressive game! I like that the enemies break through the walls and you have to repair those while being able to purchase turrets to help with defense. The inclusion of Blackjack adds a nice risk vs reward aspect with the money that could be used on turrets. Great job!

Developer (1 edit)

hey thanks for playing and liking our game mindenknight! I just got done playing and reviewing your jam game The Archer of Ebondale. Awesome game!

Submitted(+1)

Nice mustachios!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you Sminthophilia! Thanks also for sharing more about the real-life inspiration for your game's main character. Those videos are so cute >_<

Submitted(+1)

Loved playing the game. Had a unique experience. Nice mechanics of Wall repair and shooting. Keep up the good work :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and the kind words Falconovag! I enjoyed Surviving the Horde as I see we both enjoy trying to survive onslaughts of enemies hehe.

Submitted(+1)

Wow, what an outrageously fun little game! There are a ton of great design choices here that add up to something really fun. Running around and being able to fix up walls while only having six shots before you have to reload and having to remember to only fire a certain number at each enemy, plus the turret mechanics. Really fun little mash up of genres in a compelling way. I love this one, thanks for sharing! Also, any chance for a download of the game? Couldn't get this one to full screen right in my browser. Thanks again!

Developer

Thanks for playing and the kind words Bearshaman!

We can definitely look at providing a download I just wanted to double check did you try clicking the "Fullscreen" checkbox in the Video Options? Many people have struggled to find this because our UI design needs considerable work (I was the one responsible for this, so I have to apologize to my two brothers >_<) I just am curious our Fullscreen option in the game settings menu is not working properly so I can investigate that. If your tried that and the Fullscreen is still not working for your browser, please let me know!

Submitted(+1)

Hey, it worked! I couldn't actually see the tick box in my browser it was kind of hidden. Thanks, sweeet. I made it to the casino, I'd like to get further after trying some other games. Hey, I'm thinking of making a game jam highlights video on YouTube where I bring up some games I found particularly compelling from this game jam, would it be okay to show your game? I really enjoyed this one. Thank you for your time.

Developer(+1)

Not only would that be okay Bearshaman but we would be honored to be included!

Submitted(+1)

Sweet this is my first game jam and I'm having a fun time playing all these games. I'll drop a link when I put something up!

Developer(+1)

Yay I'm glad the Fullscreen option worked. So unfortunately out of our 3 brother team I was in charge of the menus + settings which is like if the Seven Dwarfs putting Dopey in charge of something.....the UI is one of the top priorities we will improve after the jam.

Also as my brother said we would be honored if our game was shown in your YouTube video thank you very much!

Submitted(+1)

Dracs After Dusk in part one. Thanks again for making this cool game!

Developer(+1)

Wow thank you so much Bearshaman! It's an honor to be featured in your video.

That was so cool hearing about you and your brother competing for the high score. Somebody cracked the top 10 of the leaderboard in the recording I saw!

Submitted(+1)

Thanks for making a really neat game! Your team has a great sense of how to put together, and refine, a bunch of mechanics and values to make something really compelling, and I'm looking forward to seeing more cool experiences from you all in the future! That was me playing in the video, I realized after I said it the reason I hadn't heard the music that far is because I had turned it off after a certain point and put on some emergency concentration power metal. Also, sorry for calling the Dracs "ghosts," I realize that was inaccurate. Thanks again and looking forward to seeing more from the Haugens!

Developer(+1)

I'm going to have to try playing with power metal on and see if I can improve my score 😄

Ghosts is totally fine 👻 one fellow game jammer referred to them as "puffballs of death" so they can be called whatever you want as long as you're having fun 😊

Submitted(+1)

I rechecked the footage and it looks like I ended up winning using stoner metal to cool my nerves with Elder's "Dead Roots Stirring" album, although I know for a while I tried using Blind Guardian's "Time Stands Still (at the Iron Hill)" on loop. I like puffballs of death quite a lot!

Submitted(+1)

Very nice art, smooth gameplay. Fun arcade feel. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing argylepear!

Developer

Hey thanks for playing argylepear! I had fun with your shopkeeping game! very cool!

Submitted(+1)

Really well made game... the art looked great!

Developer

Hey LiZZarD_Ros! I'm glad you liked our game, Arcane Siege was great! Looked beautiful, impressive 3D work!

Submitted(+1)

Really like the artstyle, and the idea of the game is cool!

Developer

Thanks for the positive review IC Industries! I enjoyed The Last Sit quite a bit!

Submitted(+1)

Nice game. Love the MC with his glorious moustache! It was a fun challenge to keep up with defending and repairing.

Developer

Thanks for playing Theoxeny! I enjoyed your survivors' style game with all the varying enemies you included!
