How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
What's more spooky than outrunning the reaper in a murder mansion? Possibly becoming the reaper and hunting his (im)mortal enemy, the cat, I guess. Spooky scene, spooky music, a fight for your life, and an alternate mode of hunting down the Reapers greatest nemesis, the animal with too many lives.
Two modes to play, either be the hunted or the hunter.
- As the hunted, see if you can outwit the Reaper and survive the day by finding a key in each area then making it to the exit! Use the cabinets to hide if he's too close or on your tail. (Check the screenshots for a map of possible key locations if you want. Keys aren't explicitly shown as they are slightly randomized but it may help to find your way. One key per area, with three potential drop points).
- As the hunter, cats have always been your nemesis (it's that whole nine-lives thing). Collect them all and you've won the day!
Check your times against other players in the leaderboards once you finish a mode!
Keyboard Controls:
Arrow keys to move player or toggle the mode selection
Enter/Return to Pause or start a mode
Escape while paused to return to the main menu

Great job! I liked the two modes.
I love the way the music gets faster when the reaper is getting close! Great game!
Congrats, two modes, great astmosphere, music was reaaallly spooky, good entry!
Really great game! I loved the two different modes! The limited visibility together with all the details in the house and the music created a tense atmosphere! Plus the leaderboard immediately made me want to play again haha
Oh, I got the last place in the Hunted leaderboards. :’) Nice game! Keep up the good work!
Most all of the leaderboard is dev times to show what's possible, don't be discouraged! I just updated the map screenshot with hints to where the keys could be (one per area, but three possible locations each time you start the game, so it's unlikely to be exactly the same as last time you played). Thanks for playing!
I just checked, you're actually the first from the Jam to finish the Hunted mode! So huge congrats!!!
Really great game, the house is so detailed! I had a really great time playing this! I really loved the turning on the lights and then they would turn back off, that was super cool!!
Thank you! That was a last-day update that I made and am really happy with. It's all about the little improvements!
Great entry! I am a big fan of all the little details scattered around the mansion, they made it really fun to explore!
Thank you, this was my first game using tilemapping which made the level planning/design phase so much faster!
The limited visibility really helped sell the spooky theme! Well, that and all the blood everywhere haha
Two different gameplay modes is something I don't see very much of in a game jam entry, so props for pulling it off! I love the art style you went with, it really sells the 'spooky' theme. My only complaint is that there's no in-game music, even for the title screen. Otherwise, it's a pretty solid entry all around! :)
Weird that there was no music for you, that's definitely something we worked on quite a bit for this. You can even check out the soundtrack here: https://hegerworks.bandcamp.com/album/hunted-hunter
Thanks for the link! I'll give it a listen when I get the chance.
Nice entry! We went with a similar concept, great minds think alike haha!
Very cool how you included both playstyles!
Check out the map in the screenshots if you want to peek the layout and speed up your time. The location of everything isn't shown, but it may give you some hints.
