It's brutally hard but i love it! You realy have a feel you are out of control. I personally liked the wall jumping mechanic. Good job!

Wow, this is hard! Finally beat it though :) I do love hard platformers!

My main problem with the game is that the timing for the wall jump is a bit finicky at times. It also could have fit the theme a bit better, but overall this is a fun game! Good job :)

Thank you!

Hard but i got there eventuallyy!

Developer

Great job man! Thank you for playing!

Very  difficult and well built platformer, love the hidden mechanics, only minor criticism would be the wall jumping, but, then again it's a matter of precision which in a super difficult platformer is part of the challenge. Either way, not only a great entry, but, a great game!

Balls to the wall hard! Although not in a bad way, super fun speedrunning! I wish there were some minor descriptives in the game itself as towards how killing the enemies worked for example! I didn't even realize they were "enemies" at first, visuals made them look like mines or something so I avoided them!
Nevertheless, had a ton of fun playing this, well done!

I liked this game! The artstyle is really nice and it had good game feel and levels. My one main complaint is I find the wall jumping very uncomfortable to execute, maybe with some more visual feedback for my inputs that would be better but in its current state I'm not a fan of it. Same with the spiders. Maybe you could have the player extend a sword when the press jump again for the spider killing thing specifically? All in all, good submission!

Cool game! I liked the urgency of the situation and how precise you have to be to progress. I have nothing against lives, but it's kinda sad that we have to restart every level when we die though.

Visually a great game the fire looks dangerous and creates a great sense of danger and the 8 bit art is nice too. The player controls handle great and feel tight and responsive. The level design is good, though obviously designed to be a difficult game.

I got stuck at level 5 and the difficulty of the game usually meant I arrived at level 5 with 1-2 lives left, which didn't give me enough goes to experiment and proceed. I don't know if a checkpoint system is needed. Maybe just have health pickups in hard to reach places that challenge the player further and also start with more lives?

Anyway, it was a fun game with good visuals. Good job!

Thank you so much! :) I get this feedback a lot.  I will look into it as I take the project further after the jam! I will probably leave the gameplay as is at least for one mode of the game (Nightmare mode?) since the original idea and design of the game calls for it, but I will also experiment with adding further modes.

I look forward to it :) I've followed you on Itch to see what you come up with in the future.

Really cool game! Very challenging and loved the fire effects

Developer

Thanks man!

Reminds me of VVVVVV, but the lack of checkpoints makes it more frustrating than fun. What's the point of speedrun mechanics if I can't even beat it? A checkpoint at maybe level 5 would have cut down the frustration a lot.

I'm sorry, my initial enthusiasm was just completely wrecked by this games difficulty. I guess the difficulty is intentional though so maybe it's just not for me. Still, I see a lot of potential here and it's overall a very well crafted and polished platformer. I'm just sad I'm too much of a noob to enjoy it :(

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! I hope your frustration doesnt kill the rating too much hehe. Its definitely a niche game given its high difficulty, although given the amount of similiar feedback I've gotten, I will consider solutions to this problem when I take this project further after the jam! <3

Haha don't worry, I still acknowledged the overall quality of the game so you got a good rating. And I'm excited to hear you're planning on continuing this project, it for sure has a lot of potential!

love the bloom effect on the fire!

The aestetics are nicely done, but I couldn't resize the window, so the game appeared really small. (I have a bigger resolution monitor).  I was stuck on the wall jump at first, but even after getting the hang of that, I'm pretty sure the jump on the third level is close to pixel-perfect.

Overall, it's a good platformer game, with a bit of a steep learning curve.

Developer

Thank you for your lovely comment! You can press Alt+Enter to toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode.  Yes the spiders are a bit tricky too, even for me. You need to hit space when youre on top of them, to jump off them.  Even so, I think the game wouldnt hurt from an iteration on the physics itself..

Submitted(+1)

Oh, I didn't even know you can resize like that :PAnd thanks for the tip. I was trying to jump over both gaps at the same time because I figured the spider would kill me

Submitted(+1)

this game is even harder than mine , nice sprites and music .

Submitted(+1)

Really cool fire effect. It was made clear early on that the wall jump was key, but it felt a bit too precise to use consistently (although you probably get it down after a bit of practice). I also felt the connection to the theme was a tad vague, especially the plot with the out of control spiders.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! To get the plot I think you need to read the plot in the intro or the page  for the game :)

Submitted(+1)

I like the entire graphic styles and the thrill of fleeing from the fire, i however couldn't get past stage two. nevertheless it was fun to play and i didn't realize i spent 20 minutes just on 1st two levels

Developer(+1)

Thanks a ton for your comment! Yeah maybe I did put the learning curve a bit steep. The trick is to nail the wall jumps. As soon as you touch the wall edge, you need to first switch direction, and then _instantly_ press the jump button. If you press jump too early, nothing happens.  If you press it too late, nothing happens. Timing is key!

Submitted

yes, it was a fun game, but the learning curve had me replaying the same level about 10 times before giving up
