Man I don't think I've ever been so happy to not enter a car.
Excellent writing, kept my attention all the way through, intriguing mysteries and characters!
Theme was extremely well implemented as well! Overall just a really swell experience, awesome to see some text based stuff from time to time!
Only real issue I came across was that the game seemed to skip ahead REALLY quickly on some screens.
At first I thought "oh, interesting story," but then everything has perished, the text started to decay, and that's when my interest drastically increased! It gave me some vibes of the Doki Doki LC ahahah, I like story-based text games. Although, I truly think you should've added the ambient sound on the background, it's always strange to play the game without sounds, especially if it's a mystery type game. The sounds of glitches would make the twist greater too! But apart from that, I didn't expect to see a game like that in this jam, so you surprised me. Good job!
Loved the story and the stylistic decisions made, really creates an engaging atmosphere, the story was also very engaging, as I found myself wanting to figure out what was going on.
Really fun game! I honestly had to force myself to stop playing because I was so involved in the mystery lol. I didn't manage to figure out what to do but I might come back another time and see if I can solve it. The writing was great and very intense. I would have liked some pixel art, possibly some black and white images of the taxi and the other characters to really ramp up the tension and polish, although that's more of a matter of finding someone to do the art for next time since you probably wouldn't have time yourself. Still, the game was incredible and your approach to the theme was very original and creative, great job!
Cool how the text started to decay, wasnt sure if it was my game just actually glitching out at first! It was pretty hard to get what I had to do at first but it was an awesome story! Awesome job
You got a tidy lil loop here, well done! I loved it when the text started to change and decay -- I wish it had done that on more of the pages.
I did encounter a little bug after I got the phone charger - there was some Twine debug print about a missing variable or something, and the text told me I didn't have my charger, but then the timer ticked over and my phone was charged. But the disorientation caused by that did fit the vibe.
Great job overall!
A well-told story! Not to be all High-School-English class here, but I liked the repetition. It worked to the game's advantage, and the final subversion helped to sell the hopelessness of it all. Branching paths that all lead to the same dead end (pardon the pun)? I like it and I'll take it. Garbling text is a nice touch as well. Great work! :D
Also, here's some bad fan art:
Very interesting story, made me feel super panicked the entire way through :D Will come back and read it all later
Quite an interesting story game. I loved how every loop I felt the sense of dread coming in and felt "out of control". I don't want to say too much to prevent spoiling the game, but you should definetly check it out if you havent.
this game is really cool, se way things play out is so good. I know this would take a lot of time, but I so wanted more endings. Really good game overall, you have defenetly earned good ratings
Really good :D
Really well constructed story! I'm always impressed with what can be achieved with Twine and some creative scripting. It's a short, but intense time loop. My main regret being that there seems to be one passage that generates an error, but fortunately this doesn't block the progression. Really well done!
alas, that was the one bug we were unable to patch out before the deadline! it will be removed as soon as the game jam is over. thank you for playing!
Being a reader myself, I really like the way you've written the story, you kinda want to know what happens next. So there's no outcome to win is it? I kept trying but all I did was die.
Edit: Oh so now I see, it's out of my control to win xD?
These is one ending that results in a "win"– have you found the phone charger?
Oh yeah... XD yes I did.
Then you should be able to find an... interesting outcome!
This is a really well made game! I don't normally enjoy text adventure game but this one has some unique elements that really improve the gameplay and make it fit very well into the theme.
The paced decision making and visual+gameplay changes on each loop make for a fun experience. Great job!
Very well paced text game! The slight changes in between each variations definitely gave me some chills.
I do wish the time based choices were more prevalent in the game where missing choices or intentionally missing them had more obvious consequences on display.
Man what an intense text adventure, really well executed and really on point for the theme of the jam! Great work!
Oh wow a rare text adventure! Love all the little effects and changes that happen as you reset the story like the disappearing letters and changing options. I think it might be the case that some people might have trouble reading certain passages since they disappear on a timer but that's my only gripe. Love the twist at the end!
This felt great, I haven't had a sense of anticpation and stress in a text game in a long while. Awesome story and the "Out of Control" intrepretation is very engaging. Love it!
I really like this. The timer is great and the mystery of what's going on is really engaging. I love how the hub page changes, and how you aren't just resetting the story when you die. It's all really cool, to be honest.
This reminds me a bit of "The Uncle who Works at Nintendo" in the writing style, which I dig. I like how there is no "Wait" or "do nothing" option, you have to actually wait, I think that could be explored in more depth in any post work. I think with some audio, like the sound of rain or the sound of a swerve, this would really pop!
