I think I was first introduced to these kinds of puzzles in the Gameboy versions of Pokémon. I liked it then, I like it now. The timed element makes it even more fun, you don't get a lot of time to think it over, and just have to start acting intuitively, more often than not you land in the right spots. Great fun.

How did you manage to create solvable procedural levels? Really impressive!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. The program start with a 9x9 square and picks a position on the edge; then it picks a random direction and distance that is within the square (25 times). After which it tries to remove dead ends. Then it picks an end point and figures out a path to that point from each position within the square. Keep in mind that it has to work backwards from the end point, but the player moves through the path in the opposite direction which gets tricky with the 'ice movement'. It then picks a path based on the desired difficult (4 moves at the start, increases to 8 moves). If there is no suitable path it generates another level. You can notice this by the screen staying black for longer between levels.

Nice entry.
Inspired by "Tomb of the Mask"?

Developer

Thanks, I wasn't inspired by Tomb of the Mask. I just wanted to make a game with 'ice movement'.

this game just feels incredibly polished and well thought-through. i kinda felt like playing a real, released game. Funniest thing was, i started the game and was kind of confused, because the mainmechanic is a common mechanic in games and not *that* original until i realized that this wasnt a puzzle AT ALL and i had to be FAST and from that moment on i had SO MUCH FUN, i think i tried it like, 10 times. Great game!

Love the graphics!

Good stuff! The procedural levels really make this work well, adds some nice variation even on multiple attempts!

Cool game! (The mechanics are something I've seen many times but there were still some good moments in there.)

Simple yet fun. Nice.

Loved how fast and snappy it is. I was thinking you had made so many different levels, and then I read you did procedural generation xD Still, making the system to create feasible levels must have been tough under the time-limit. Funny how you used the out of control theme both for theme (contagion) and controls (ice movement). The only thing is it was a bit repetitive and easy, but that's understandable. Good job!

Unique interpretation of the theme and I like the subtle nod to the jam colors in the art. Very well done!

A score of 55. I'll take that :)
Pretty fun and surprisingly relaxed for such a fast game

I played past level 100 but there wasn't enough variation or difficulty for me to keep trying beyond that.

Wow, that's impressive! My record is 70.

I thought the levels were too easy in the beginning, but they got more and more difficult, which was very good. The music and sounds are also good, as is the minimalist graphic style. Good work!

The screenshake feels really good, It's odly satisfying, reached level 38 :D Good job man! Enjoyed it!

Pretty fun, and the screen shake was a nice touch. Interesting how you elected to go with a timer instead of a move counter, made it more like tetris than a more typical puzzle game, and it works well. Kind of merciless having to start completely over.

A polished game that is pretty fun and smooth.

I didn't realise at first that there was a timer and I think that while it makes it more frantic, it's also a pretty big 'feels bad' when you lose 1 level and have to start from scratch.

Fast and fun! I wish there was one more level of complexity- like that moving over a house you've already collected would un-collect it. In general, the levels were fairly easy with many of the features not needing to be used. I love that it is procedural, but hand designed levels could have a more complex play.

Can't say I didn't enjoy it. but it got boring and repetitive. Its fun tho. So I think it deserves a 5 for fun, but it's not innovative or original nor attuned in my opinion to the GMTK thematic. Aside from these its really good to play, with smooth controls. Thanks!
