Great concept! It was really original, and I enjoyed the amount of thought that went into designing the cards and the ability system.

It took me while at first to understand how to play strategically, but it was fun trying to optimize after that. The only complaint I had was that sometimes it was pretty much impossible to prevent yourself from losing, if you get dealt a bad hand as soon as you come out of the ‘linked’ phase.

Great work for the jam, I liked the character art too!

really good concept, well polished too, great job!

As a person who loves Slay the Spire I really enjoy this concept, and it is super polished for a jam game with some incredible art and clear UI elements. Well done! :D

Woow, I played quite a lot of games with this general idea but this is by far the most polished and fun to play version, good job :)

Love the music btw

I found this concept quite original and unique compared to the vast majority of the jam games. It took a while but as soon as i understood how it works, i really liked it. The hability absorb mechanic also adds a lot and involver the player more. The music sets the scene very well too. Very good submission :))

its a one of the most unique game I have played loved it

It took a little time for me to figure out how the mechanics worked but once I did it became a really fantastic strategy game with just the right amount of luck to make things interesting. The art was really good and the enemy encounters reminded me of a better version of old Adventure Quest in the best way possible. I had a lot of fun with the game and I definitely think it's something that could be expanded on post jam with some more levels, lore and a deeper battle system to become a really solid commercial game. Great work!

interesting idea, but my butt was kicked so hard..

@Zelgas @HiZed @Asdaroth you guys made a good concept for the theme good work though when I was playing the downloaded version the screen was getting cut the cards were half visible maybe that's something that you can fix after the jam, but overall nice try :D

Interesting, we didn't have any screen issue. Which resolution are you running?
Thanks!

Really really cool concept, but also very luck based, I tried like 6 times and never won :P I absolutely adore the graphics and core mechanics!

The game is a bit strange but cool. THe art is amazing.

Thanks!

Great idea for the theme! Love the graphics

This is a very cool idea, and I feel like there's so directions you could take this that lean into the ebb-and-flow style combat this necessitates. Currently, though, I don't think there's much to the game, and I agree with others that my decisions feel a bit arbitrary.

Thanks for the feedback! We're currently discussing all the possibile ways we could take the game forward in a future release.

Nice mechanic idea, but could use some polish.

I like the mechanic, but this is painfully luck-based. Tried around 10 times and never won.

This is a pretty neat take on the theme!  The linking of health works really well in a turn-based game like this, and being able to control your enemies actions as well while you are linked leaves room for a lot of strategy.  However, I noticed that most of my victories and failures ultimately boiled down to the luck of what is available to me and what my enemy does when we become unlinked, which can make the game a bit frustrating.  Choosing cards after defeating enemies seemed to help this problem a lot, so maybe allowing the player to have some sort of choice in their initial deck would help make it feel less luck reliant.  The art and sound is gorgeous, probably some of the best I have seen in the jam.  They create an atmosphere that seems perfect for the feel of the game, so great job.  Overall, I had a lot of fun with the game, and I think it has a lot of potential to grow if you ever return to it!

Developer

I absolutely agree with you! The gameplay definitely needs some polish. I think the idea could be expanded further post jam.

Credits to @Asdaroth and Thomas for art and music :)

There is something here, and a tutorial 🙌! Two major issues though:

  • The presentation does little to help understanding what happens, you have to know the rules.
In particular, when unchained, it's vital to know what the spirit does. Like this I'm left deducing what it did doing the math myself
  • Major bug: at the third time I reduced the Devil to 0 HP and stayed myself on positive HP while unchained and reading "You Died" I let the game be. I really wanted to see a win but (al least in classic) it looks to me that's not possible :

Do a post jam!!!

Edit after reading comment: Hint (for the obtuse like me :D): you are the Devil

Developer

Hey saharo! Thanks for trying the game. I can see how the UI could use some improvements to convey better the fact that you ARE the demon. That's why you got the losing screen. Maybe try again knowing you have to beat the knight this time! :D

(+1)

Alright! Now it make sense! The Demon is on the left, that was a good clue :D

Again, cool idea! It would benefit of a redesign to enable some actual tactic:

  • joined: it's only a matter of surviving, there's little tactic other than hoping that enough cards come up that don't kill you both
  • unjoined: I feel like there's too much luck involved as it is right now. Maybe the human could somehow hint about the next action.
Developer

Definitely! We already have some ideas to greatly improve the gameplay, but those require much more than 48 hours. Maybe expect a full and improved version in the future ;)

Interesting mechanic! Nice game.

Excellent work. A very interesting and original mechanic, hard to implement but very well-executed. Loved it.

The idea of linking your health to your opponent is brilliant. Very original concept overall, the music does the job perfectly.

Undertale vibes,
definitely worth a trying it
