weird take on the theme but i like it
Good strategic game and nice take on the jam's theme!
Interesting concept, during our initial brainstorming session at the announcement of the theme I also wanted to do something with ants, but went for something else. Glad you did it, nice job!
Thanks for the feedback, that all makes a lot of sense :)
I was thinking about making the remake a little more RTS like (bigger maps which require resource gathering, buy ants from resources, ant hill camps to bring food to), do you think that makes sense or should the maps stay short and puzzle like?
I really liked the idea, very fun game. Good work!
The game idea is very cool! It gave me Pikmin vibes :)
Thanks!
Actually, it was strongly inspired by Pikmin and Grounded :)
Cool idea, the gameplay is fun (has some of the "Commando" games vibes to it ;))
It would be nice if ants could be selected with boxes rather than ctrl+click. Should play a bit smoother. Also the different type of ants are rather similar to each other, sometimes hard to spot the right ones.
Thanks for the feedback, those are all very good points!
Drag boxes were a long time one of the highest priority features on my todo list but I had to cut them out due to the time constrains :(
And yep, propper ant designs for the different types would have been important (as well as shape differences and descriptions about their abilities if you hover over them in the Hud)..
I guess I have already a lot to do for the post-jam Remake :)
Impressive work! The art is simply and expressive. I had a lot of fun playing your game 😄
Good job on this game, very original
Great fun, although I wish the ants moved a little faster :D
Sole developer? Very good job for 48hours!
Last level is really challenging, but over the levels difficulty increases well to get used to it.
Thanks!
Yep, except for the sounds and music, I did everything by myself during the jam :)
There is a nasty bug in the last level which sends you back to level 7 on death. I wish I could upload my current build which fixes a lot of those bugs :(
Yeah, that would be great!
oh so that was the last level? that bug kinda caused me to give up... well, the game's really good anyway. you did a great job
You had a very clear design in mind for this, and I think you executed it excellently given the amount of time you had to work on it. Awesome job!
The concept is very interesting and the aesthetic is fantastic! Very creative use of different types of ants as well. My one suggestion would be leaving controls for specific ant abilities on the screen instead of being dismissed with the introduction, as I was not able to use the flying ants carrying ability the first time it was introduced. I love the project through, and the scope is impressive given the time limit!
good job!
The intro drags on too long, instead, the description or an “instructions” button would have sufficed.
The game is not that bad, quite original for the theme of the jam.
Some visual indicators should be stronger, such as a clearer definition of the start and end area, as I was really trying to avoid the long-winded tutorial. Still figured out how it works though, and in the end it wasn’t even that bad. Despite stating that “the AI are kinda bad”, this part is actually well-made. Even the art was decently polished.
Just a few details that dragged the game experience down.
there's quite a lot of content for a 48-hour game!
Cool idea! Pretty fun to play and try to get higher score. Like you said, AI and collision still need some work. Also add some music and sound effects.
Thanks, one question though: The game has one music track and a few sound effects. Didn't they work for you or do you mean "Add more sound effects"?
Sorry, turns out the music works, i just didn't pay attention to the music the first time i played it
lol, but yeah, I should have added a lot more sound effects, if I only had the time... o.o
That's a good chunk of levels and while the collision and AI could definitely use some work (like you said in the description) I like the idea of the unique abilities that work in combination.
Thanks :)
I made those strange collisions to test the basic idea of the game and after a day or so, I had no idea how to change the system without changing everything else too xD
And good AI just takes time, I certainly didnt have :/
that's a big project for 48 hours, super awesome.
