I didn't realize what stacking did until a few turns in, but it seemed like an interesting idea. I always like when people take a classic game and add a rule change or two to really shake it up. It is tough to see how much it would change or if the change is good without playing it a bunch but it's a neat idea for sure.

I liked the characters reacting to taking pieces, that adds some personality. I might keep them on the board at all times though, that way you could have them react to each move and also to who was winning overall.

I also think that making the board taller and/or adding bouncing off the wall if you had more than one movement might be cool additions.

Anyway great job and congrats on finishing!

Thanks a lot man! I appreciate the feedback! :D

A lot of people told me about the unclear instructions.. X) next time I guess I'll have a big focus on that...

As for the characters, I actually wanted it to feel way more cinematic than that but with the 2 days constraint, I decided to settle for less and actually finish it X). Still, I'm glad you enjoyed! :D

Muhahahaha!

Love the art style and the sounds. The game was really enjoyable and smooth. I like the concept of stacking pieces.

It took me a bit to realise the pieces stack.

Congrats on submitting!

XDDDDD

Thanks dude! I'm glad I was able to get a laugh out of you... X')

The humor in it is really good! Keep that up, it's nice to see that.

I got you on this one! ;)

The game was fun to play. I really like the character sprites and the music was well fitted. Maybe add some sort of tutorial, to better explain the rules of this game. Anyway I really enjoyed playing it.

Good game!

Developer

Hey thanks a lot man! :)

Yeah, I agree the tutorial was a let down X) but still, I'm glad you had fun with it! :D

Loved the goofy laughs and overall wacky theme. A quick tutorial on the stacking mechanic would have been nice, I didn't realize that was a possibility until the AI did it. Great work!

Developer

Thanks :D ! I really appreciate! :)

In game tutorial is really non-existent, you're right X). I'll definitely try to make it better next time! :D

This game was really  fun to play locally! The AI was a bit boring as they moved completely randomly but when you played it with friends locally it was really enjoyable. The art was good and made the game look polished along with the sound effects and music, they all made the game seem very completed and polished by the end of the jam. One criticism though would maybe to have a way of explaining the functions of stacking the pieces and what they did because I didn't really realize for a large portion of the first game that I played, also maybe have more of a reason to stack the pieces as it ended up providing more of a disadvantage. Other than that this game was very enjoyable and if you could check out my game and leave some feedback that would also be much appreciated. I wish you well with your further game dev adventures!

Developer

Hey thanks a lot man! :D

True, I must admit, even when I tried the game I ended up starting to stack pawns way more in the end game, when I can combine them with a queen to gain more range. Still, I wanted to do it anyway because I though that maybe some players will find new ways to use this addition! And from the feedback I got, turns out I was right X).

I never actually played against a human (sad me :') ) but I'll like to try it sometime to fully understand your point of view.

Thanks for your feedback man :D! And don't worry, I would have tried your game anyway. X)

Interesting ideas! Also, the game is pretty complete and well-polished, and the artwork and SFX are quite good. Well done!

By the way, I encountered an issue with the AI: When the AI player has no available move next turn(the AI has only one pawn left and it's completely blocked by my pawns), the game will stop running and crash. Hope you can look into this problem.

Anyway, I really like this game. Nice job for a 48h work! Had a lot of fun!

Developer

I'm really glad you enjoyed it man! :D

For the turn system, I was told about this problem by some friends but the Jam was already over... after the ratings I'll fix it tho! X)

Thanks again for the feedback dude :) ! It never fails to make me smile XD

I liked the way how you turned checkers, also added AI. Great job!

Thanks a lot man! I appreciate! :D

A pretty fun take on checkers. I didn't understood it at first, but when i realized i could combine the pieces, then it felt amazing to combine and destroy the opposition.  The occasional portraits that come while you are playing also adds to the presentation. Pretty simple, but also pretty good. I can't wait to play it with other people.

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed it man! :D

When I was thinking about the topic, I though about how my friends and I used to cheat in checkers back when we were kids by stacking pawns together and saying "I have a super queen" X). The Jam reminded me of that so, I wanted to try it out. X)

I am impressed with this one. Not only you did the art during the jam, you also made a (mostly) functional AI for the game.

This checkers variant is fun to play and adds quite a depth to the game. I searched a bit to see if it already exists and found nothing, so congratulations for the idea!

The game is pretty much complete, the only thing I could say that is missing would be online play, but thats a low blow for a jam game.

Good job!

Developer

Thanks a lot man!

A friend of mine was wondering if the Shogi had the same rules as my game but in the end... we didn't look for it.. X)

And indeed online play would be cherry on the pie! I think I'll try it once the Jam is over... X)

Thanks for the feedback! :D

Wow, love how you adapted an existing board game, changing how you need to strategize. Also both graphics and music gave the game a Looney Tunes tone that fits perfectly with the game. This might be one of my favorite entries!

Developer

That's EXACTLY what I was going for with the characters!!! XD

Thanks you so much dude! :D

This version of checkers is way more fun! Nicely done!

Developer

Thanks a lot dude! I'm glad you liked it! :D

This is a really nice twist on checkers. I like the idea of building pieces up but that being a risk because it means one move can take more. Adds a lot of depth.

Developer

Thanks dude! I'm glad you enjoyed the idea! :D

At first I was a little nervous because I felt that the twist was way too simple. But then I realized that a minor change which brings up way more depth is more welcomed and easy to understand. Thanks for the feedback! :)

The added stacking rule makes the game more strategic choice, such as more moves or more piece. Although the AI miss obvious opportunity and hardly will go offensive mode, a perfect practice for beginner to understand the rules. And having 2P is a fun choice to play with friends.

Suggestion for improvement

- Giving the player a choice to choose a more difficult AI could give this game more replay value. (example: easy, medium, hard AI for the player to choose so that they can challenge or improve themselves).

Developer

Thanks for the feedback man! :D

The AI is actually playing random X). 2 days time constraint. You know the drill... X)

Still I highly agree with your suggestions for future improvements! Thanks man! :D

really liked the new approach for the checkers game, good job! =) had a good time playing it
the ai is a lil bugged but I am impressed that you even coded the ai in the jam timeframe.

Developer

Thanks a lot man! :D

Well actually, for the AI, it just plays random X). Maybe after the Jam I'll be able to make a more decent AI!

in that case good job haha you fooled me x)
