Wow, this felt highly polished! I started cheesing the encounters with an Slime-only build but it stopped working halfway through, and I'm glad, because some of the units have really neat effects. The last two encounters got me scratching my head for a while, but it felt really good when I finally figured out an arrangement that worked.

Almost superauto pets-like game, the music and sfx make it even more lively and the art style is very charming. Highly recommend playing the game to completion and learning the strats. I ended up finding one strategy that worked well for my first play through, but will definitely be trying other strategies later on.

Edit: Just checked the profile and the fact that this is the first and only game that the creator submitted to itch.io makes it all the more impressive that the game is so well made. Would love to see a completed game with more strategy and levels sometime in the future.

Thank you for such kind words!

I'm happy to see you enjoying the game so much!

Wonderful game ! The gameplay was very clear and thrilling, I couldn’t help trying to finish it completely. I’m very impressed by your game, Congrats !!

Like the concept and how clear it is which unit will do what. It would be nice to be able to sell back units to adapt and switch strategy according to the coming hero

Developer

Thanks for feedback!

This was suggested multiple times, and, honestly, I agree with that.

Glad that you likes the game!

This was a lot of fun! I enjoyed tinkering with the lineup and watching my little guys beat the warrior to a pulp. Presentation was great too -- love how cute the sprites are, and the music goes nicely with the pixel art visuals.

Really cool game. I liked the balancing of different monsters and hero abilities.

Thanks!

The Warrior's behavior isn't actually random, he always plays semi-optimally (AKA, finds the first possible solution, if it exists). When he does silly stuff, it usually means that your current build is far from being efficient.

Glad that you had fun with the game, though!

Cute! A bit random, but the potential for killer combos makes it worth it.

Developer

Thanks!

This is crazy addictive! I really love playing around with the order of waves to get the proper balance. Really well done!

Really liked this! Super good mini version of those auto-battle games. Your pixel art worked fantastically, I know it's hard to get something good with so few pixels.

My only suggestion is clarifying what is yours and what is the hero's. I kept thinking at the start I had moves I could spend, and that I had health or mana. Separating those to the other side of the screen or making labeled boxes with "MONSTERS" and "HERO" might be good

Thank you for feedback!

That's a good call, warrior stats should really be separated from the monsters', heh

I'm happy that you liked the game!

Awesome game concept! well implemented. Smooth gameplay but got a bit herder.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Yeah, this game is, unfortunately, really difficult, heh

Super creative idea and great implementation of the theme of the jam!

Flows nicely and I love the way it looks too.

Nicely done :)

One of my favourite games this jam. Art style and music were super charming and the gameplay was fun and forced me to think a bit. If I had to criticise something it would be the difficulty curve; I breezed through the mid-late section of the game until the last level where the warrior was significantly stronger and took me multiple attempts to beat, but it could be the case that I just got lucky in the previous few rounds, impossible to tell without more testing.

Again, excellent game and definitely deserves to be in the top 20 :)

Developer

Thank you for feedback!

Normally, day 7 and day 15 are the hardest to get through, so you probably just go lucky there. The balancing is just a tiny bit too hard to get right in a such short time limit ;v;

But I'm glad that you enjoyed the game!

Submitted(+1)

Haha I suspected as much because the balancing at the start of the game felt perfect to me. I would say you did an amazing job for 48 hours :)

Love the art style and music! And a simple approach to this game! A very polished game as well.

But, in contrast with the cute art style and music, the gameplay is very brutal, it requires a lot of knowledge about the game just to play pass through all the levels. If I'm not missing something, once you make a bad decision (like buying too much slot for the monster or buying too much monster but not enough slot), there have no stepping back but to restart from day 1.

Just like Sekiro/dark soul boss rush that has lots of RNGs involved without any checkpoint.

I think giving players ways to refund the monster for meat and letting players cancel the buying monster windows can ease up some frustration in gameplay.

Personally, I enjoyed it.

Developer

Thank you!

Yeah, these are generally the 2 pieces of advice that people give to improve the experience... And yeah, the game would benefit if these 2 things existed!

Glad that you enjoyed the game!

I find the game overall fun, creative, and beautiful! In my first playthrough, I was excited and thought I had found my favorite game of the game jam, that's saying something! But then, I got stuck on the second day, and my enthusiasm faded.

I think this is due to a balancing issue. It's not that I don't like difficult games, quite the contrary! But if I'm getting stuck on the second day, it could mean that the game is perhaps too difficult, don't you think? And I'm only talking about my first playthrough; I found the game unfair at other times as well.

What bothered me the most was the randomness of the warrior's attacks and the recruiting of monsters. If the warrior's behavior was more predictable, like the enemies in Fire Emblem, for example, and if we only had to pay when recruiting monsters, it would certainly be less frustrating. In my opinion, in such a tactical game, the lack of information can be discouraging. We need more information to feel that if we lose, it's because of our own mistakes and not because of an unfair game.

And I genuinely mean it when I say that the game could have been my favorite of the game jam, you know? I'm looking forward to playing a more advanced version, if there is one. Well done! :)

Thank you for feedback!

I'mma try to give my thoughts on what I think about it.

First of all, I made sure that you can't lose on day 2. If the warrior gets the bow as his first extra move, buying essentially anything should suffice. In case of the warrior getting a power slice, the game guarantees a bat in early days to make sure that you don't lose on day 2 to rng. So, unless you try to, losing day 2 is technically impossible.

As for randomness factor, that is true, a lot of the game is random. However, the warrior always gets moves from the same pool at different points of the game. He will always get either a bow or a super smash at first, then get 2 out of 3 moves from a different pool, etc. You can see the moves that warrior has already unlocked. You're right, that more knowledge on how Warrior unlocks new moves would improve the experience, though.

The way Warrior attacks isn't random, though, but instead tries to play semi-optimally (that is, find the first possible sequence of moves that leads to victory).

As for monster receiving, it has quite some random element to it too, but it does have a few nuances to attempt to make it somewhat fair. As I already mentioned, early days always give a bat as an option to prevent early game softlocks. Furthermore, it will always try to give you a new monster, unless you already have 1 of each. And it will stop giving a certain monster type, if you already have 3 of it. Again, more knowledge on how it works would be perfect...

Overall, I don't deny, that the game has balancing issues, and it might be much more difficult that it should have. But I'm not sure, if I would call it unfair by any means.

I'm glad that you've had fun with the game, although am sorry for not providing the experience that wouldn't feel unfair

Developer

ok, I didn't expect to throw a paragraph at you, I'm sorry if it's overwhelming

Oh, no problem with the response, it's great to have this kind of exchange! I reacted spontaneously myself, without having all the knowledge you have as the game developer. And once again, well done! :)

P.S.: Feel free to try our game if you'd like!

Developer

Thank you for understanding!

I will make sure to try your game out today! Gotta take some break first though...

i like the art! the controls are pretty smooth as well though might need some improvement. good job!

You're rights controls could use a bit more work, heh

Glad that you liked the game though!

Loved it!

Really liked the minimalist aproach to it, for the gameplay AND the arstyle :)

I think i softblocked myself a few times at first, but in my last run i could win it without much trouble.

Great entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad that you loved the game!

As for softlocking , yeah, it is inevitable, but you still can learn from that!

Really good game ! Cool visuals and animations. I enjoyed the diversity of monster's powers and it was fun to find some combos. I put 3 slimes at the front and 2 skeletons at the back, so the slimes did much damage at the beginning, but when some slimes where killed, the skeletons started doing more damage : really fun ! I didn't understand how the use my meat at the end, but then I understand that it could be used to unleash the zombie power, nice idea.

The game looks REALLY good for a game that was made in 48 hours. nice job!

Developer

Thank you so much!

Really fun game!

The balancing may need a few tweaks, I couldn't find a great use for some of the monsters. I ended up winning with a very defensive focus team. Other than that I had a lot of fun.

Great Job!

Developer

Thank you for feedback!

Yeah, it is pretty evident, that balancing could use some extra work, because there are some weaker monsters... Not to mention someone stupidly strong...

Glad that you enjoyed the game nonetheless!
