Great presentation. Clearly influenced from all that 80s delinquent stuff. However I feel the controls should be changed cause its very awkward for e to be punch and interact be ctrl+e. But overall incredible job!!!
It was a little confusing to figure out how to play at first---I think a tutorial of some kind would help a lot with that. Really creative use of the theme, though, and the minigames are fun (especially the breakup one). Nice work!
Really solid presentation and ideas here. a lot of care was clearly put into this. gameplay could use some more variety but for what it is this game is rly good
Underrated game for sure. It needs a bit more of polishing in terms of telling the user how to play the game but it's such a great game and I love it
Graphics and presentation are amazing! Surprised this doesn't have more ratings. The music is a real bop and the pixel art is great too. The intro is ridiculously good for a game jam. Would have been nice to skip through the intro, as there doesn't seem to be a reset button? The game could also do a better job of explaining the mechanics of actually playing it during the gameplay. But overall it's super cool.
escape will let you skip the intro, but yeah the controls didnt get communicated well and we didn’t have time to do the tutorial. We’re planning on adding that after the jam!
Graphics and sound are really really cool :) I had more trouble understanding what to do inside the game, but overall funny interpretation of the theme, more in a narrative way.
Thanks for the game ! Good job
The art and the aesthetic were amazing. I like the concept, and the gameplay was cool. I enjoyed the humor in it, I died laughing at “healthy breakup!!!”. Great stuff would love to see more!!!
Intro cutscene was cool. Game itself is really hard.
Super creative theme interpretation. Cutscene slides were very impressive given the time period. Graphics are on point, looks they were pulled directly out of the era and the variations on the two mini games are super polished. Game is pretty hard! I had a difficult time keeping that rage meter down. Very impressive work.
WHAT HAPPENED!?
Cool theme interpretation.
Graphics and sound design are amazing, especially considering that you created most of it during the Game Jam. I particuarly liked the stylised cutscenes. Quite a difficult game, which I like. Fun punching people too, although I know that goes against the general theme ;)
For improvements, really need cutscenes to be skippable after the first viewing. Very hard to replay when you need to watch cutscenes every time.
Overall, very nice submission. Well done!
Well done, I love the artsyle taking from the beat 'em all genre, especially the animations.
The cutscene was really nice too, although I had trouble skipping it when I tried to replay the game. I could skip the animations but the music was still playing with a black screen.
I found the game really difficult too, because of the huge amount of thugs haha, but a really fun experience (I love seeing so polished Game Maker games, great job)!
Thank you! yeah I found that issue pretty late. You can hit escape to skip to the gameplay though instead
Fun and fresh approach to the Roles Reversed concept! The premise was an ideal underlying theme.
Gameplay was swift and the graphics were A+. The artwork was rad and the music was real catchy too.
This was great, the mini games were cute and a nice addition.
Thank you :)
Amazing graphics, I enjoyed the gameplay and the music was very nice. Great work
Thank you!
These graphics... just wow... I'm blown away
This game was so much fun great job
Thank you!
This game is awesome! The presentation is out of this world for a jam game :)! It's seriously crazy how good this game looks and sounds. I didn't get too far but after a few attempts I can safely say I'm a meat tenderizing champion >:)
Congratulations champion! And thank you for playing :)
I really enjoyed playing it! It has a nice story and rather good graphics. It reminds me of some rather old games which I forgot what their names are. Well Done!
Thank you so much! Our artists worked very hard on the presentation. We all loved River City Ransom growing up, so that was a huge inspiration.
Very cool concept. The connection between the simple "story" and the gameplay was very strong. The art was very good, both the pixel art (I appreciated the difference in color palette between the beat-em-up page and the minigames) and the intro animatics looked polished.
One problem, however, is the lack of directions. I understand that you guys weren't able to put the directions into the game, but even the directions on the game's page are lacking certain details. I put together that the "anger meter" fills up over time and increases quicker when you hit enemies, leading to a game over. I'm not sure if the punch has any practical use. Even after interacting with everything I tried (the white-shirt citizen and the girlfriend), I could not get the top meter filled up (which I'm assuming you must fill to continue or reach the ending.) Either I'm doing one of these mini-games wrong or I'm missing something.
Either way, despite those issues I have, this game is very well put together and it seems to me that the contributions from each of the members of your teams blend into each other really nicely. I see a lot of potential, so I'll follow you as it seems like you're considering continuing development on this project.
Good job and good luck :)
I restarted the level about 10 times becasue I kept getting "Reputation Destroyed." I figured out how to move and punch, but that's about it. I have no idea how to win this game, who is on my side, what the meter bars in the top left mean, or any other controls this game may have. A tutorial or guide or something, anything would have been much appreciated. The art and kind of anime style was great though, I was a big fan of that. Especailly the beginning cut scenes. The music was cool too.
hey Andrew! The control instructions are on the game
Page. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to put them in the actual game itself. Hope you’ll give it another try.
