The game has really cool art and an interesting map. Now, if this game had a map to help with navigation and a short tutorial on what is possible to do, it would help the gameplay a lot.
I can tell that there is a really nice game in here, but there a few issues which prevent the game from reaching its potential. As others have said, the world is done in a beautiful style, but it is very difficult to navigate, especially in a game which should really reward map knowledge. It would also be great to get more information about the different colors and what they do compared to each other. Final small gripe is that I'd love if it was a little easier to tell which direction the character is facing.
As a general concept though, this is very nice and I would be happy to play again in a version with clearer UI elements.
Cool idea and nice art style, but it's slightly unclear as to what the goal is and the gameplay is a bit repetitive. Would be good with some more mechanics!
Others have summed it up pretty well; beautiful aesthetics / ambience, repetitive gameplay that became a bit tedious and no real incentive to progress other than refusing to lose.
Must be my inner designer, but I picked up pretty quickly that you had painted the sandy-coloured paths to lead back to the totem, though I do agree with their suggestion about adding a working compass (which is a more thematic solution than a mini-map in my opinion), perhaps even if it was something you had to craft within the first couple of rounds.
Nonetheless, good job with the submission and congrats for co-ordinating a team!
For as simple as it is, the artstyle has some good color choices which make sit generally pleasant to look at! The gameplay loop is interesting, but it also gets quickly repetitive. Now this is a game jam game, so I think finding ways to expand the gameplay loop could highten the experience, but given time constraits it's easier said than done! Good job!
Very pleasant and beautiful game, great work! π
A small compass would be helpful, I lost because I couldn't find the totem. Also, you can keep playing even after the game over! π
I think what Vlopes is indicating is, as I noticed, when you trigger the fail-state and get the Game Over screen (basically "you lost"), the game engine's time scale is reduced but not stopped. Therefore it is possible to continue to play the game (albeit at a slower speed) whilst the Game Over screen is showing.
The music was jamming! Because the map was so big, I did find myself getting lost a few times. A map or indicator would've been great. Good job nonetheless!
Really nice music and artstyle! The game would probably benefit from having a minimap, as navigation is a bit tedious.
I love the art and music, very cute and great vibes. I do think the gameplay does need a bit of work, without any other gimmick (e.g. combat, puzzles etc.) it's just a bit tedious. Overall, a very nice jam entry :)
