Love the look and sound of this, and it's simple but presents some interesting player choices. I especially like how the bow and arrow is different from attack and defense in that its attack is constant, but you control the distance, which gives it a different purpose. I also like how killing enemies isn't always the smartest choice -- if the kraken is coming, you intentionally want to use enemies as a buffer so you can shoot it from afar.
It is annoying though how you'll get two 5-lob-throwing brutes onscreen and you'll basically be dead.
Stylish, solid gameplay, great animations
Thank you !!
Superbly executed! Fits the jam really well and is super fun to play, art is crisp too! One thing I would maybe add is numbers under the available spaces for enemies just so you always see which number corresponds to which field. Right now when the board is somewhat empty, I found myself counting through invisible spaces to make sure I shoot the right monster. Just a tiny little polish thing I suppose.
Also screw the ranged tumor boys, holy crap! :D
Those awful tooth monsters are a pain right now ahah we'll adjust them in the future :D Thank you so much for your feedback and time.
We thought about adding square on the ground or something to see the grid but we didn't have the time to include it.
I struggled too finding the right number. We surely will add this after the jam !
Thanks ! I think we'll try to add a bit of variety after the jam ^^ Thank you for your time and feedback :)
This game is awesome. I love the audio, and the black and white pixel art is chefs kiss. The game play felt really good like a dungeon crawler, could totally see more content added on later! Really nice work.
Thank you for the nice feedback!
I liked this game a lot. The pixel art is simple yet very effective. Sound design was great. Was a bit uncertain how the defense part worked, as I didn't immediately spot the number underneath the king. I also think that there needs a to be a bit more variety, in that only 1 enemy can projectile attack. Died very abruptly when two of those showed up. A part from that found it to be a very engaging game.
We definitely need to twist the stats on this projectile enemy, ahah !
Thank you for your time and in depth feedback.
A really nice take on the theme. I enjoyed playing this quite a bit, and the music and art was great too. Ended up getting murdered by two of those toothy 5/4 bastards who spit at you from a distance (very cool death animation for the king!).
One thing that was unclear for a while was what the numbers indicated. I eventually figured out it's attack/HP, but it's not immediately clear, especially with the king's shield appearing in the same spot under his sprite.
But anyway, overall this was great. Fantastic work!
Ah that’s a good point. We hesitated to add some little icons like a sword and a heart to make it clearer, but we were afraid it would be a bit too much on the screen. I understand that it’s not super clear!
Thanks a lot for all your feedbacks! :)
Amazing game!
Its really fun
Thanks!
Loved it! Great take on this year's theme, nice music, and good art! For me, this is definitely top 5 of the games that I've tested so far. Good job!
Thank you! <3
i like this game; the art and the calm background music! nice sound effects and pretty nice gameplay loop, where you have to decide where to put dice :)
in the end, i ended up replaying a couple of times, but the thing that kept getting me killed was that i did not understand how to select target with the bow. it felt random, and i could not target the big mobs that shoot you.
overall i quite like it, and if the arrow mechanic could be explained, then i’d play some more :)
Thank you for your nice feedback!
The bow always deals 2 damages, and the dice that you put on the bow slot decides which monster will get attacked (for instance, put a dice 4 to shoot at the 4th monster from the left).
We should explain this mechanic a bit better, I agree :)
Interesting concept, i think this could do with some design choices to mitigate the randomness of the dice in favor of the player, like keeping a number of dice per turn (allowing the player to skip a turn phase). Presentation is very good.
I fully agree, the full randomness at this state is too much. We could twist some designs and add some concepts to improve the game !
Thanks for your time and feedback !
Good game!
Thank you !
A really cool game. At first, i didn't understand what's happening but over time i managed to have a good playing experience. I love the art of this game aswell! Very good job <3
Thank you ! We really need a tutorial but had not the time to implement one. Maybe in a future build ! thanks for the feedback and taking the time to play it :)
Really cool. There really needs to be more options, like re-roll, save a dice for next turn, etc. Or have like 6 possible actions, and always rool 6 dice. The rock thrower enemies are OP. Very fun game, thank you!
We kiiinda made the thrower a bit too strong i feel :D
We thought about a lot of mechanics like you described. Maybe in a future build !
You could also add mechanics with double and triple number.
So far, It feels to me like some rounds didn't include much strategy. So maybe work on that with more dice yeah.
Thanks for your time and feedback !
This is a really cool idea! When there's no one in front of you, the sword doesn't do anything, so I suggest moving the enemies so there's always one in front of you. Also I love the art
Thank you !
We thought giving you some time was a nice reward for killing an enemy with the bow. But I see how it can feel frustated to have a missing sword attack !
Thanks for your time and feedback !
This game is not only really eye-catching, it's also mighty addictive! I do feel like more could be added on- maybe giving the player the option to save one of their dice for the next turn or something- but the simplicity of it all is mighty impressive. Also the death animation is stunningly good.
Thanks you so much !
It feels like we could add a lot. More dice, features when you do double or triple. Saving a dice could be really nice too, and we got space to work on the bottom of the screen :)
Nicely intuitive little game! My only suggestions would be to number the enemy rows (maybe I'm just dumb but I keep having to count the rows to figure out which die to use on the bow, especially when there's gaps) and maybe have the enemy row move forward as far as possible instead of always moving forward by one? (The sword ends up being useless quite often if you manage to kill 2 or 3 enemies in front of you.)
Thank you, if you're dumb i'm as dumb as you, ahah. I kept getting it wrong while playtesting. We didn't had the time to implement a good way to change that though. Maybe add little isometric square below each slots. It feels like adding a new set of numbers could be confusing.
Thanks for your time and feedback !
Fun, unique, straight forward, but I wish there was away to upgrade my attacks or at least block more once the ranged people come out its game over...
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, upgrades were in our plan, but we ran out of time :)
