The visuals, sound effects, and music were particularly good. I do wish there was more game here, it sort of feels like we were only getting started. Still, the game was very enjoyable and I could totally see a whole game being made using this concept!

Very fun. I enjoy the feeling of going from an extremely slow and weak plane that struggles to knock over one book to a fast plane that can knock over multiple books in one shot. I will say, I feel like the progression of that change could have been stretched out for me, as I was able to max out upgrades with half of my time to spare. Still very enjoyable!
I really enjoy the simple single mechanic. I especially appreciate the fact that the size is a bit generous. It makes the game feel much more fair, especially when things speed up. Like many people have said, more sfx would have been nice, but to be fair turning this game into a rhythm game would have taken a lot of additional planning and execution. Taking the game for what it is, it's a very enjoyable deep dive into one concept.
I'm a real sucker for these types of games. It reminded me of The Beginner's Guide somewhat, which is the highest praise I could possibly give. Reusing photos from other projects was a brilliant idea, and by making a game within your skill level you made something totally unique. I have to agree with others that the second photo was particularly hard to get past for some reason, but aside from that my only complaint is I wish it was longer (a very good problem to have, I promise!)
Really fun little game! Super simple and short, but there's a fair bit of replayability. I would suggest that a simple tutorial might have been helpful. I know you put an explanation of how to play in the itch description, but not everyone reads those. The zoom out effect was really fun, especially when you get a crazy high score!
The artstyle, music, and theming of the whole game was absolutely amazing! The game really does feel like a cohesive whole. I felt like I got a handle on the basics of the controls really fast (right after the first level), but I can tell there's a very high skill ceiling that I didn't even get close to touching (which is a good thing!). I will say, the best feeling from the game was building up crazy momentum as the squid, but it never quite felt like the levels were designed with that momentum fully in mind. Also, shooting two pieces of ink up never felt neccesary, and it also felt like I could achieve the same speed/momentum by shooting the ground a few times. All around an amazing game!
Thank you for the constructive criticism! I really wanted the bar to line up better with the song, but as you guessed we ran out of time. The artist was considering doing more realistic artwork but she switched over to pixel art early on because that's what she's more comfortable with. The game definitely needs some work in some spots, but I'm thankful for the kind words.
I adore the fact you made a working gameboy game! Unfortunately I found a couple more bugs. If you die on level one and hold down the X button on the black screen it respawns you in but the screen doesn't scroll. No obstacles spawn in and if you hold X down long enough it moves you to level 2. I also died to one of the meteors right before the end of level 2 and it froze my game, so I had to start all over again. Bugs aside, this is a very fun game with a lot of charm. I love the little story in the description, and the controls added to make it work on mobile. Great entry!
The theming of you being the game manager is very cute. As others have mentioned, having a way of noting down what each file actually does in game would be really nice. Having to restart from the very beginning of the game is a tad bit painful, but the fights are faster once you know the names so it's not too big of a deal. A very clever and fun game! I'll be thinking about it the next time I give a file/variable a bad/generic name lol.
The idea of trying to balance stopping the ball from reaching the end and collecting coins that are in shortcuts is a fun one. I feel like in an ideal world the ball never gets super stuck, but maybe it could have simply been that there's a maximum amount of hits before the ai gives up on the level and the next level starts. I definitely think there's a lot of potential in this game, it was very fun.
Short but fun. Controlling the truck at the start feels a little too sluggish, with you getting stuck on cars and traffic lights a lot. This becomes less of a problem after you get a few speed upgrades, but still. A map might have been nice. Maybe make it so you need to trash a certain amount of houses before being able to get some upgrades? That being said, I fully went into speed upgrades and it was very fun to drive across the whole city in no time flat, smashing through everything in my wake.
While a few people had the idea of making a fishing game where you're the fish, the creative idea of having you being a catfish fishing for cats makes the game much more charming. The gameplay is a bit simple, and there isn't really an ending (both likely due to time constraints), but it's still very fun. The best part of the game is definitely the pixel art. Great game overall!
This game is oozing with charm. I love the aesthetics of it so much. The character design, the UI, and the subtle grain filter all work together beautifully. I do wish there was some sort of game over screen or victory screen for if you hit 0 or 100 academic reputation though. Seriously one of my favorite games I've played so far.
