How does your game fit the theme?
On a whim, a new rule can appear, changing the game. All you have to predict this "roll of the dice" is a list of four rules that might be added at any moment.

the idea was nice, the only thing is that I think leaving trail should be a default thing. and it would be better with more rules (at least as many as regular dice sides)

Congrats on finishing your jam game!

Your core idea of a game slowly adding lose conditions is pretty interesting. I was excited to try it out. Giving the player an idea of the rules coming up was a nice touch, too, because it can give the player a chance to adapt and plan for randomness. Letting the player meaningfully react and plan for randomness is a huge win for game design when using anything random. Well done!

Unfortunately, the gameplay didn't quite work for me. I think you just needed a bit more time than 48 hours to make this sing. You already mentioned the bugs, which is fine. The bigger issue is that nothing really happened until the "players leave color trails" rule was added. And as randomness is want to do - I rolled "lose if you step on opponent's color" seven times before the color trail got added. It was a little underwhelming and I just clicked back and forth hoping for the game to even start. Did you playtest what it would be like to start with color trails active? I think this game might benefit from a non-lose condition rule being active at the start, even if that's randomized. Just have something for the player to do or plan with. I know this is more work, but always having unique rules in the randomizer would be more appealing, too. The game started with 3 "bigger board" rules for me which just felt a little underwhelming given the premise you setup before I started.

Really cool game idea with plenty of room to explore should you decide to play with it more. But this is a jam game! You've got no obligations to continue development afterward. I hope you've learned a top from this experience and keep participating in jams. Making lots of games is the best way to learn and grow as a developer.

Keep making games!

Very clever game with a unique set of mechanics.  I would like to see the win conditions come in a little faster before the board size expands to be so big.  One time i had a huge board and still no possible win state.  Once the win states set in, the game is a lot of fun.  Good work.

Really smart idea on the theme. It reminds me of playing Go with an AI. Although I really want to see more mechanics on the dice instead of a normal cube. Great game though

I feel like every win/loss involves the color trails, so they should be on by default. Also there needs to be a limit on board size. I feel like some games would go on forever if the AI didn't just mess up.

I like the idea though, it is like the card game "Mao".

Common issue being reported:
I can't see the color trails/there are no color trails

The color trails are a separate "rule" from the  two "lose if you step on (opponent/your) color"  rule. Because of this, it is very possible, and it fact the more likely outcome, that one of these lose rules will be drawn before color trails are left.

My opponent isn't following the rules

I believe this is due to my quickly and terribly implemented UI. The list on the left of the play field is simply letting you know what rules could be added next time a rule is added. They are not rules. Pressing E will give you the list of rules.
I believe this is what is happening as I have been unable to replicate the complaint of the opponent not following rules

No accuall game untill you roll the trails.

I like the idea but need some better UI :)

Not bad at all! I think that the game should start with both cubes leaving trails beacause before that there is no actual game, you just move around randomly. Nice entry. Cheers!

Really cool concept, i couldn't see the colors when i played unfortunately  but i really neat concept. Good job!

the board got to like 30x30 10/10

pretty enjoyable though! i feel like a vs mode would be suuuuper easy to implement and could be a real good time! only issue i really had was that you can just go the entire game without a dice trail and then the game has to get reset, but boxing in enemies is fun!

The AI doesn't seem to follow it's own rule of losing if stepping on it's own color. Pretty interesting, does the opponent just pick a random direction or does it have rules that it follows?

Developer

The opponent does pick a random space to move to, then checks if the move is possible. If the move isn't possible, it picks a different space to move to. If it goes through all the spaces but there are no possible moves, the game sets a win for the player.

As for the opponent not following the rules, I'll have to look into that, not sure why he's breaking the rules

The board become bigger and bigger, and when I said out loud "It can't be bigger" it became bigger again :D

Actually interesting concept, I can pretty much se how it can be a really challenging two players game, liked it!)
