As someone who has an interest in the genre, I enjoyed it! The music was cool as hell! But I never get past the part where there's this sawblade thing shooting, dude's cracked! Some of the projectiles are really hard to notice in the background, not sure if this was intentional. As a color blind person it made the experience even harder. Still I tried it for a while because it really is fun!
I don't play much in this genre, but I gotta say that this one caught my interest. Good music and a solid sense of style kept me in the game for longer than I thought I'd be. Great effort!
the music is a banger! The game is hard, but then again i suck at bullet hells so there's that. It crashed on me one time, can't say how to reproduce it or why, it only happened once so it might be my computer for some reason. Overall i had a great time even if i suck haha
A little toughie, but still fun!
The dices function didnt really make alot of sense when i started playing since i dont think it was made clear in the tutorial, but once i figured out the objective was alot more clear!
Cool game for 48 hours, see alot of potential with some polish!
Games like this are one of the big reasons I love Game Jams. I usually don't play this genre of bullethells, probably just because I have never properly tried them, but Jams provide a great setting to dive into all sorts, and in this case I'm really glad I did.
Its tough, especially because I'm not practiced, but I definitely enjoyed the difficulty. It felt fair, and I kept retrying because of that. I loved the take on the theme, the retro style and art, and the music too. A great entry, really.
I'd be interested to see what direction you take it if you continue development after the Jam
Very fun game! At first the bullets destroying the frost was was pretty frustrating, but I actually found it pretty fun to balance when you shoot! The game is very difficult, but also very fun to keep retrying because of how fast it lets you retry after you die! Interesting take on the theme, but I feel like I was never really paying attention to the dice, because I felt like they didn't really make a change most of the time. Also a frustrating thing is that as the size of the player increases, your hitbox does as well, and when you're very big, Sometimes it is impossible to go between the bullets. Other than that the game was really fun to play. I managed to get to the last level, but I couldn't beat it.
Pretty interesting idea. One thing that stood out to me was the fact that you can destroy the ice pellets by shooting them; this seemed questionable to me but at least it incentivizes shooting deliberately rather than spamming, which may be a good thing. Maybe being able to know exactly how many hits every enemy would take so that you don't accidentally shoot the ice afterward would have been a good addition.
This has an interesting usage of the dice theme, though I'm not sure how much it benefits the game overall. Firstly, sometimes it seems advantageous to be smaller, but you can't ever use that to your advantage in later levels since you have to gain size in order to lower the numbers on the dice. A bigger issue for me though, is that the level's enemies and patterns are consistent, while the amount of action you have to take is variable depending on the roll of the dice. This essentially could be boiled down to the game setting a random difficulty level every so many seconds. If I beat a level because of a low dice roll, it feels less satisfying because it feels like I only survived by luck.
Thanks you for taking the time to write out your thoughts and feedback!
For your first point, we did in fact make the ice destroyable so that the player wouldn’t always just hold down the spacebar. Your idea of displaying a health bar of some type to prevent the accidental destruction of said pellets is a good one!
As for the randomness of the heatwaves and your meter, we are already implementing a way to lower your meter at will and possibly spawning enemies more closely associated with the strength of the upcoming heatwave, to give the player a fair chance of surviving it.
Thank you for playing, it is very much appreciated!
Great submission, I loved the art and the music used, and overall really good execution, also the tutorial level is great at teaching you the main mechanic. my only problem would have to be the movement speed, it felt way too fast and made dodging alot harder, a precision mode where it slows you down would have been great for this game. other than that its a really cool game
At first it seems like an there is no enemy than they started to rain down, nice retro touch!
