The idea is great, I like the mechanic of slowing you down as you fall, but there are some situations where continuing to climb is almost impossible, I would like to see more ways to climb or a twist on the mechanic that would allow you to meet the challenge of climbing in more ways. The setting is cool too! good job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! It was definitely planned to allow some more interesting stuff, but that has to wait until I have time for a post-jam update. There would be collectible power-ups you can use, including one to "reroll" a dice (rotating on up axis) to choose a different face, and another powerup that acts like a rope hook to grab edges much higher up.

Cool idea, would be nice to have some more opportunities to 'save' oneself when falling, and maybe a time component to push for speedy play?

Developer

Yes, those were planned but got scratched due to to limits hehe. An idea I had is to have collectible power ups, one of them would be a rope hook you can throw to grab onto an edge much higher (even while falling). And then some rising water/acid/lava that acts as a time limit

Might also be cool to add some collectibles to encourage players to choose harder paths ;)

ohhh that's a cool idea too! I had the idea of giving more points for climbing a one-face (since it's harder), but I think I could use collectibles to grant those additional points. That way it's also visually indicated that the harder route will have a higher reward. Thanks for this idea!

You're welcome ;)

PS: I feel like i need to point out, it was the linux version that convinced me to play it ;) This year, as so many others, is the year of linux gaming! :P

Developer

hi there fellow linux user!

Cool idea. Would love some more visual variety.

Developer(+1)

Yeah that's one of the things I would really love to do in a post jam update. Maybe some different dices, plus going more into the earth-like stone cubes with plants growing on some edges. Also flickering torches at some cubes for nicer illumination could work well

really fun game and great presentation! took a little getting used to the controls and right clicking, but once I got the hang of it, it was really fun

I finally made it to 15. Now I feel proud of myself. :) Congrats on your submission Winston!

Cool idea, nice and pleasing visuals and cool sound effects when climbing!

I might have some ideas for increasing complexity, maybe letting the player charge up their jump to jump higher, or perhaps having spikes coming in and out of some dice "holes" to force players to keep moving?

Just some thoughts that came into my mind. :D

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the kind feedback and ideas!

Some of the ideas are definitely planned (see also https://itch.io/post/6226994) but I like your idea to force players to keep moving! The spikes sound like a fun concept, and I think I could also add some kind of rising water or lava so that there is some kind of constant danger.

This was very nice idea and  very well executed. Really enjoyed it!

It took me several tries to figure out how to jump properly, but then I was in a flow

Nice climbing

interesting take on the topic

Pretty cool way to use dice! Wasn't expecting anyone to make a climbing game!

Might benefit from pickups and interesting things to do along the climb

Nice job!

Thank you! Yes, I had plans for this but no time ahaha (working alone). I might do an update after the voting has finished with things I originally planned:
- powerup to re-roll a dice
- powerup to use a rope to hook onto a grip much further up
- score depends on the dice side you climb (a rolled one is harder to climb, so more points)
- obstacles on some cubes, for example trees growing out of them
- more visual diversity, different dice materials, torches on the tower, proper background
