That's a cliffhanger ending for sure! I'd like to see where you're taking this story, I don't feel like I ever played a game where I've had to socially manipulate my favor with the inlaws (except for real life huehue).

Developer

Thanks. As you can probably tell, I had originally planned a longer story, but (like always) I ran out of time. So I thought it's better to end it at high point in tension, to make it clear that it's not the ending.

Good concept. Using the theme in a non action why is very good. The game seems good without the music and SFX, but I wish that there is one, it will go cool with the amazing art.

Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. It would be really nice to have some form of audio in a post-jam version. I' going to need to get a bit of help with that though, since I don't know a lot about either music or sfx creation.

Great game. I like the art, it is a very clean UI. The dialog was great. Clever use of Doggo.
Plus I got a kick out of how my anxiety metre looked like a confused Electrode (Pokemon) :-p
Good job! :-)

Developer(+1)

*laugh* I might have to change it then, as to not be sued by The Pokémon company. ;)

Haha I liked the ending - very good.

I hope you keep developing this more, with some animations or something to cause the player to look away from just the text it could be even more capturing.

Thanks goodness for the dog, my anxiety was getting pretty high up there. :)

Developer

Yes, I'd like to make at least one post-jam version with improvements like the once you mention.

One thing I've been thinking about is moving the camera slightly depending on who's talking. It might make the scenes less stiff without being to much work. It might also be nausea inducing thou, so it could prove to be a horrible idea.

I really enjoyed this, plus you also have a st Bernard in your game!

I love the art design, very simple but effective, and it looks like it was hand drawn and then photocopied,

Too bad it's a bit short, but well I can't complain, ours is the same

Nice work!

Thank you for the kind words about the art. It is indeed drawn by hand, on paper, with just a small amount of import editing in Krita (contrast, image splitting, alpha channel etc.).

I'm trying to find ways to make games for computers, while my self spending less time in front of computers. Drawing by hand is an important part of that.

Dad wants to know who am I. Who are any of us really in the grand scheme of the universe?

Had fun playing! My own anxiety level started to go up when I started getting my anxiety meter a little too high there :)
I also enjoy the art, and the simple color scheme helps keep track of who is speaking in each part.

It is a very good use of the theme! Also your drawing are also very good and the game is original!

Well done!

Developer

Thank you. I'm happy people seem to like the art style since I'm mainly a programmer rather than a graphics artist.

I was really into it and wanted to know more! :) The dialogues are well made.

Good job! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks.
I'd like to expand this in a post-jam version, although I might actually start with fleshing out the current scene and perhaps adding a prologue before I settle on what will happen next.

My anxiety went through the roof! Interesting concept :) I thought the art was a unique touch, well done!

Developer

Sounds like my design goal accomplished. Glad you liked the idea and the art style.

Cute game ! I liked the story and the hand drawn assets. In particular the color you've chosen for each character.

Also the anxiety meter is a neat addition !

Developer

Thanks. The ' colour coding' was actually a 'happy little accident'. I temporarily tinted one of the characters to better see if they where overlapping with the table. It looked sort of nice, so I kept it.

It's nice to see a game with hand-drawn assets instead of pixel-art. Of course petting the dog reduces anxiety... :D

The "story" in the right side of the screen was a bit weird... maybe because I'm used to the typical bottom-wide text box for the narration, like the user input.

Developer

Than you for paying. Pardon the late reply.
The narrative is placed on the side to let the player read more text at  once. This way it's easier to see how the conversation fits together, which hopefully makes things less confusing. I think I I got the idea from 'Disco Elysium', which uses a similar layout.
