Hey hey! Here is my review finally.

So my first impression was that the menus had a quite good UX for a jam game, that was nice. Also surprised by the gamepad support (although there’s this little bug we discovered, but it was nothing major).

The controls / camera movements felt a bit clunky at first but I adapted quite quickly without thinking too much about it. You explained later than it was intended for the platforming phases. As I said I’m not much of a platformer player, and even less in 3d.

The theme is respected but I didn’t feel the game was truly connected to it. As in family was just “patched” onto the game. I would have preferred a main mechanic involved some family. Like “Don’t be late for dinner”, the 2d platformer with the baby/grandma/… or the foxes game Willow played live.

Graphics are probably the most polished thing in the game, I mean it’s 3D and there’s quite some assets that you all made yourself IIRC. Also the effects for the smelling mechanic was well made and cool looking!

It’s a bit more original than a regular platformer with the exploration/adventure side and story focus. Felt a bit like a n64 / PS1 era game

I can’t really remember much about the audio except that the music was really simple and quite ambient, which is fine for the feel of the game but could be improved. I haven’t composed for a game in a long time but I’d be interested in trying to make something if you’re interested (I think you said you wanted to polish/expand the game).

Very cute, super impressed that you were able to accomplish so much in the short time span given. The art and music work great together. I did run into a bug where I feel through the floor after being spawned into the tunnel (after the raven). Still overall good though :)

Very cute game, I once again (as is the theme in most the games) totally failed to get out of the first cave bit. I'm glad better gamers got to enjoy more of your game. Great job! :-)

Edit: I did get out (yay!)- but then I took a right at the snake and got to a huge open green area. Then I found a pit and I live there now....
Seriously impressed with the amount of work you got done! It's fantastic.

Haha the bug is actually mentioned in a screenshot in the game page (https://madparrot.itch.io/unpacked-gwj) because I didn't notice it in time. You are supposed to hit E in the tree to scare the snake. But thanks for playing =)

I didn't successfully manage the cave jumps after the raven after 10~15min and lose so I gave up.

First, the positive : The fact that you made everything by yourself is pretty impressive, especially for 3D. The Wild Cards are used (all of them!). I had a good time playing it.

But, I didn't fully understand the universe : is is some kind of cute world? Or the narrator play with us all along? It doesn't seem you can merge both, and the result is a bit strange. The music in the cave is partly happy, partly disturbing. Finally, you could have done a little bit more for the control, like a camera control by joystick.

I loved the graphics and the general level design and the different mechanics you introduce one by one in your game.

A different camera angle would have been nice, mostly for the jumps I think.

Or being able to look around would have been nice too.

I entered a second tunnel and fell into the world :) So I couldn't join my family :(. That was after helping the raven.

Really good work!

Very polished, well done.  Lots of content and all done in 9 days, very impressive.

Perhaps speed up the movement of the character a bit is my only suggestion. I felt like I was pretty much always holding run but that still felt a little slow.

Can't get over how much you've done. Thumbs up for having loading screens, progress saving, fully menus, animated characters, all in such a short time. :)

This is really good! The platforming elements feels fair and responsive. The music was really good too. It really suits the tone of the story and didn't feel repetitive.  There are certain areas where I wished I could either control the camera or have it zoomed out a bit (mostly during the cliff near the lake) to get a better angle of where to jump to next but the game was simple enough that it wasn't a big deal breaker

Hey,

nice little game you made, really like it. played and rated. I like the sound, and the first checkpoint was nice, turning something that looked a fail at first into a succes.

please feel free to play and rate my game:

I loved this! The art/animations and the environment were so cute, everything felt cohesive and professional. The platforming part was difficult but felt fair. You even managed to include dialog and quests. I really enjoyed this one!

Wow, you packed in a lot of gameplay for a week! Doing everything yourself as well, pretty impressive. Was quite enjoyable, very cohesive, fit the theme, decent platforming, list goes on.

It's no big deal but I think I may of found a bug? It's unrelated to the one on the Jam Page. One of the walls near the lake has no collision, can get underwater and out of bounds. At first I thought I found a secret passage but it seems unintended? Didn't let that effect rating though.

All in all very good entry! Great work!
