This game has a real potential. I really like the mechanics and the overall style. It's a pity that the controls are very challenging, perhaps using the mouse would be a good alternative ?

Though it as you said, the music is quite loud and overpowers the sound effects, the game was still great and very enjoyable! I especially like the fact that you have a limited inventory and a physical body, making the gameplay much more challenging and interesting! The sound effects really went along with the gameplay as well!

Nice job! I love the art, and the music was nice. The controls were quite challenging to keep track of, but overall I think it was a very clever idea.

If only the controllers were more intuitive! It would be greate to make every thing work with mouse! Please keep it up! I'd love to play it !

Thank you! That's the direction we're heading! :)

I played it for a while before realizing that there might be a bug on the objects count! I came at a point where there weren't enough pipes in the first level

Developer

oh, I think I know what that might be, I thought I had solved it. Sometimes, if you time it just right, you might be able to superimpose two pipes together, if they are the same kind, it ends up looking like one disappeared, it's a very annoying bug regarding Area2D enter and exit signals that I was hoping was solved. I'll look into it. Thank you for spotting it!

Great art but i needed a spread sheet to remember all the controls. Fun game :D

the controls are quite weird but the game is really fun and beutiful art! congratulations!

Nicely made!
I feel like the controls were very unintuitive though, I had to wrack my brain to remember any input.
Like if there is arrow movement why not have jump on Up or Space for that matter? Pipe types could be on 1,2,3 and maybe if you pressed them  again you would rotate that type. That the rotation was displayed on the ui was very helpful though. The mapping was to me very unconventional apart from being in the same general area on the keyboard.
Personally something like E:pickup/place, R:Rotate, Space/Up:Jump, 1-3: pipe types, Q: cycle types would make much more sense, but that is my WASDerbrain speaking.
The jump not being able to get over a single block's height also strange to me, this while the character is more than one block high? Hm! :- )

Criticisms aside, impressed with what you managed to put together!

Developer

Hey thanks!

Regarding the controls, yeah, they are a mess, coincidentally the reworked mapping includes some of the things you proposed! both that 1,2 and 3 map to each pipe, and that space maps to jump. Also, the mouse will now control the actions (drilling, piping), and you will be able to rotate the pipe using the mouse wheel.

The jump height feels odd due to a misunderstanding, I (the developer) intended for the character to be about 3/4 of a block tall , but the sprite sheet (which was made one day before deadline) ended up being about 4/3 of a block tall, so I ended up enlarging the collision box, giving him a shorter-feeling jump than intended (and making him unable to go through 1 block tunnels)

The reason the jump itself is shorter than 1 block is because we wanted to encourage a more strategic use of ladders. We might end up making it at least 1 block high post jam though.

Thank you for your critique and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

pretty difficult controls but everything was really cool, great graphics and cool concept

I love the concept and the puzzles, but the controls are extremely unintuitive and complex, and this may just be a problem on my end but the game ran pretty slow for me? Also the art is adorable

Developer

First time I hear about the game running slow, it would make sense though, as the pipe flow logic involves far more computation than I would like it to. I will look into performance improvements for the post jam version.

Regarding input, yeah, it's really confusing, in the current version we replaced most inputs with a single context dependent button cursor, so it will end up looking something like this post jam:

Thank you and I'm glad you liked it!

I think graphics are super cute and it's a cool puzzler

I didn't really think the fact there was health added to it - I found I was punished for trying interesting solutions

I found forgetting the controls as there were so many - so looking for ways to reduce the number or have a pop up to check them would be nice

I would love to see this if it gets expanded on though nice work :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I appreciate and agree with both criticisms, the health system, as it stands, feels kind of pointless. The original idea included a mole enemy that would randomly spawn from the background wall, with its chance to appear increasing every time you dug, and would attack the player and the pipes, but we ran out of time :(, so I figured I could still salvage the health system by adding fall damage, but it backfired lol, oh well.
Regarding the input, we're not too happy with it either, so I'm already working on a post-jam fix that involves incorporating the mouse and combining several inputs into a single context dependent cursor (if it's dirt, then drill, if it's pipe, then grab, if it's nothing, then place the currently selected pipe).

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for playing!

Very nice looking game, loved the idea and the visuals - the oil pouring out of the pipe looks awesome, very nice touch. The controls feel a bit clumsy and confusing though, making tasks somewhat more difficult then they actually are, but overall great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the review! Yeah,  I wasn't entirely happy with the controls either, there's too many actions and I found no elegant way to map them in a way that feels right, even I (the main playtester lol) get a little confused while playing.
