I like it! The music was pretty good as well as the overall feel. The Bullet section caught me off guard in a good way :) And the glow effect when you get a correct option is 10/10 aesthetics. Very nice!
"Bad" things I noticed:
1) The player character design and look is good, but level of detail is higher than the rest of the sprites. And those details makes it look worse D:
2) During the Boss fight I noticed some of the circle particles flashing like they were glitching.
3) Maybe the music files were to heavy but, export to Web instead! (for gamejams at least)
4) The thumbnail you picked, taking a screenshot of the game during the bullet section or in the house with the character between the goat and a circle with 3 correct choices were better picks than the titlescreen.
Nice game, I like the hordes of the monsters vampire survivor style, similar to my game.
BTW when it comes to the particles of movement instead of just making them visible I'd only monitor the character's speed and just change the emitting value so it does not vanish immediately.
I very much enjoyed the riddles, maybe just cut to the night once you got the correct item?
Hey, how did you find using Godot 4? I've been playing with it on the last couple of jams I've entered and I'm loving it!
Please do export versions for Mac and Linux users next time though
I'm really liking it so far. My journey with Godot 4 started with a 3D project of mine. It had a ton of performance issues with 3D in Godot 3 then I converted the project to Godot 4 and the results were incredible. The tilemap stuff was pretty fun to play around with as well
Yeah pretty disappointed we couldn't get those complete before the deadline. Big lesson learned from our first game
So many systems implemented for a game jam game! Very nice work, there are only two small quality of life improvements I feel like recommending: being able to read the goat's message more than once might be nice if I skip it by mistake and being able to end day phase before due time, as lipi suggested.
Thank you so much for playing our game!
It's great to hear those suggestions, because those are two things we all absolutely wanted but were unable to implement in the final stretch, haha!
I didn't notice the timer at first so imagine my surprise when I'm looking around, petting the cat and suddenly I'm in eye hell fighting for my life.
it made me laugh when for my last item the goat gave up on the riddles and just said "these are like stairs that are portable"...
unfortunately my game broke, i placed the first item on the top left slot and the top right slot lit up, and never allowed me to place anything else there... i restarted tho because I loved how your attacks change depending on the items you place down, and defeated the boss! very cool!
oh, I think the timer might be a bit too long? I found myself talking to the goat, figuring out the item and placing it down and waiting for 40 seconds every day, and the riddles aren't very hard to figure out
great job overall!
Thank you so much for playing our game! My wife did the same thing the first time I had her launch it to play it, lol! We intended for a slight more of an intro sequence but ran out of time!
There are a couple fun 'riddles' spread in there, haha!
Thank you for letting us know about the bug, we will look into why that might have happened!! I'm super happy you restarted and got to beat it with a new 'build'!
We definitely wanted to be able to talk to the goat again to proceed to night but it was one of many things we couldn't get in!
Thank you again!
this looks intriguing, but sadly as there is only a windows executable, i can't play it.
(and by the way, the rules do specify that every entry should have an executable for every os, or an html5 build to compensate.)
Yeah we spent hours trying to get a html5 build working with Godot 4. We couldn’t solve the issue and decided to cut our losses and were only able to get a working windows build in time.
Sorry you couldn’t play :(
Same issue. I must admit I am not even trying to get the HTML5 version working with Godot 4 - it's not ready for that yet.
Just export each version for the 3 platforms required in the rules and you'll be fine next time around.
Or maybe beta 4 will have fixed HTML5!
The game was great. Had a lot of fun beating it.
The system where you can chill in the day and think about what ritual to do and the night where you have much action and you just want to survive, is pretty cool.
At first it was a litle bit frustating not knowing which item to choose but in the end it was fun to see all the attacks and later i also understod that the black cat gives you tips.
Overall i'm impressed! Keep up the great work guys :)
Thanks for playing it! We had difficulty creating a web version for Godot 4. We were afraid that nobody would go through the effort to download it. Glad you enjoyed it
Managed to complete this, I didn't expect to have a sorta day/night cycle where you do puzzles by day and action by night, it was fantastic, I liked the urgency of having to find the item and it fit the theme perfectly. The end boss was great too.
The things I'd improve would be the collision detection with the items, I might be stupid but I found myself placing down an item in the house and trapping myself so having to quickly move it, I would allow the player to pass through the items.
The best thing about this game for me was the riddles and finding the item to place in the circle, I also felt satisfaction completing the game too.
Huge well done from me!
I can see how the item collision detection can leave you trapped. Thank you for input as well as playing our game!
Really thematic!
Initially I wasn’t expecting it to be a bullet heaven, so I got a little surprised when the first night started. I didn’t put any items on the circle either, so I just wandered around the map haha. I think an initial tutorial just showing some images with the items on the circle would make that more obvious, initially I didn’t realize I needed to put the items on the small circles, just inside the big ritual circle.
But after understanding the main mechanics of the game I really enjoyed it! It was fun seeing what each item did and figuring out the correct sequence.
Lastly I would also suggest to add a “start the night now” button or something like that. At the late game, when I collected all the items and was just messing with the order to get the correct sequence I had to do a little waiting…
Nice game, congrats to the team! Managed to beat it 😎
Thanks for taking time to play, and for giving us feedback!
It was such a fun experience making this game with my friend group. I look forward to much more!
It was very fun making this game with my friends, wow!
