I had a really enjoyable time exploring this! I felt compelled to go back a second time a check out the other path.

Took me a tiny bit to realize what all I was looking at at first, but I honestly think that fit in with the abstract nature of a dream. The morphing player sprite was quite trippy as well. I played it live if you want to check out my experience!

really appreciate the stream! Because watching you play, I noticed in your playthroughs Ecaroh and Horace were not seen on screen together until randomly at the very end of your dark path playthrough. I wonder if there was a browser compatibility issue from my web export that broke some of my code... i'll definitely investigate now that I know that can happen! They were supposed to both be on the journey together from the start.

Thanks for your feedback!

Happy you were able to check it out! I always find it very rewarding and insightful to get to watch someone play through your game, so I wanted to give that back to others!

Oh, interesting! There was supposed to be a second sprite following you? 😮

Developer

yeah, if you pause at 2:34:39 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1772103020?t=02h34m39 you can see the 2nd red sprite (that's Ecaroh!) appear below the swamp monster. I'm really not sure how he didn't follow you from the beginning - because in my game scene, both characters were placed next to each other and should spawn on screen as soon as you start. I'll investigate further myself, but may I inquire what browser and OS you're using?

This art style is incredible man! I did the light ending first, and was a little confused, “Why is the game so weirdly happy?” And then after doing the dark ending, I get why you made this. The ambiance that slowly fades in while the ‘ancient evil’ thing shows up is just incredible. I feel like this would be the perfect ARG-type game, with a really simple surface premise and codes within codes on top of it. The preachiness about one’s choices was a bit much for me, though.

I appreciate the critique! I think your last point is important so I am more mindful of the rule: "show, don't tell" in my storytelling from now on.

Thank you for playing! My dream game is definitely an ARPG genre, so I hope to get there one day!

You have your own graphic style that fits very well with the atmosphere! the sound design is pretty cool too!

Love the sounds and the atmosphere. It was interesting because the animations and the sfx were eerie, but the dialog text were comforting... it was like a weird dream :). Nice submission!

Very interesting game. Unique art and creepy sound effects. The atmosphere of the game is really on point! I also liked the UI design of your dialogue boxes and you have some well-written dialogue to go along with it!

I went to the swamp side and then the screen turned red and now I just had a static red ball and another red ball flying around randomly. It’s been doing that for a few minutes now so I guess it’s stuck…?

Developer

the swamp monster will never let you leave >: ]

you make a good point though - i don't indicate that you are stuck forever. maybe if you tried to move with the arrows, i could have prompted a dialogue to tell you to refresh the page or include a restart button. that's good design philosophy i should keep in mind from now on. Thank you for that feedback, and i appreciate the kind words :)

Sound design and graphical style choice is sooooo on point. It really makes me feel like I'm in a fever dream. Thanks for the experience!

i had a lot of fun messing with audacity + Paulstretching to make some cool sounds. I'm glad you enjoyed thanks for playing :)

The eerie ambience is spot on. I was a little lost at first, but I managed. Dialogue is fun and creepy at the same time. Good work!

thank you! yes i unfortunately did leave out actual boundaries in this quick game, sorry that i let you get lost in the void!

this was so fun and impressive to play! the UI was so pretty, i loved the two main characters, and the dialogue was so charismatic and unique. i really grew to enjoy the characters personalities, and the ending was visually stunning.

- Theme:  Main tie in was through the narrative

- Fun:  It was a fun read through the dialogue

- Controls: Worked, and it was clear where to go

- Graphics:  I really like the artwork and how it animated. The dialogue swapping was cool

- Audio:   The wind in the background was nice and the dialogue sound helped

- A11y:   No feedback

- Originality:  The line at the end to refresh the dream was fun!
