Game Description
In Void Arbiter, you serve as the steward to the Lord of Purgatory. Purgatory is overcrowded, and it's up to you to review release applications for lost souls. Your goal is to reduce the soul count. However, you must maintain a sufficient sin balance to keep Purgatory neutral. If the sin balance drops too low, Purgatory will be absorbed by the forces of good, and you lose.

How does your game tie into the theme?
You void (verb) applications for souls who do not deserve to leave purgatory. The setting itself feels like you are trapped in a void (noun).

The game has a really nice interface. The ambient Music is A M A  Z I N G. And the game is original. Really a good job !

I felt like it was missing interactions with the people, like laugh / talks from the characters, and some sound when moving everything around you.

Thanks for the game, and feel free to give feedback to my game too !

cool idea! you should definitely expand on it

I really liked the vibe and ambience of this one. Can't put my finger on it but it matched very well with the retro graphics.

It's an interesting conept and has a very retro feel to it. Very good entry for your first game jam. Continue making games and exploring your ideas.

Well done :)

Interesting premise! I liked the audio a lot. I'm not sure how it would be possible to lose, because I just went around pardoning everyone and I won.

Thanks for playing! Essentially, each time you get an application, it rolls 1d6 to determine how many unatoned sins it has left. I have not done the math but I would imagine you just got a little lucky on the RNG and made it through. If I make future updates, maybe I will adjust the numbers or the RNG to make it harder and make the potions more critical. Thanks again!

Hello, I really liked the idea of your game, it's the type of game I usually like to play. I loved the portrayal of the characters, they do justice to the place they are in haha.

However, I found the movement not that fluid, and the interface was a bit too simple for the type of game. I would have liked to have had more guessing mechanisms. But it's fine, considering it's a one-week project.

That said, congratulations on the game, and welcome to the world of game jams!

Thanks for playing! Initially this was a grid based game and in the end it didn't really need to be but I never got around to changing the movement. I would love to make updates in the future to add more potions and things. Thanks again!

Good entry! I didn't quite figure out what was really the point in getting the red potions, it seemed like they only made things worse as I was supposed to keep sins while getting rid of souls, but other than that it was pretty fun!

Developer(+1)

The red potions will reveal how many unatoned sins a soul still has. 6 being the highest, 1 being the lowest (or 0 with a purple potion!).
Essentially if you have a 5 or 6, you may want to void that applicant, where a 1 or 2 would be safer to approve.  If I make updates to the game in the future, I'll make that more clear. Thanks for playing!

Ohh, that makes much more sense! I thought they were making the sins higher somehow. Almost every time I'd use it, the counter would show 5 or 6. I guess that was luck, and indirectly helped me anyways!

I see where your inspiration came from, Paper Please. Although the game needs more polish, it is in a good direction. I would keep an eye on this game if there is going to be further development. Keep it up! :)
