Game Description
Dive into a mesmerizing puzzle platformer crafted by solo developer Dapqu. As the void energy engulfs the solar system, it opens a series of enigmatic portals for you to conquer. In a race against the encroaching darkness, harness your void vision to navigate treacherous terrain, outsmart enemies, and manipulate gravity to your advantage. With the aid of MAGE and MINION, you'll need to solve intricate puzzles and reach each portal before time runs out.

How does your game tie into the theme?
Game's setting is in space, aka void. The ever expanding void is slowly consuming the world, player needs to beat each given level before the void consumes them. The void energy also provided the player the ability to manipulate the gravity. There are also void enemies that are invincible and only can be seen under void vision.

Very cool game I loved it!! it was a little confusing at first but very fun I loved everything about it but it would be a nice addition if some levels are slightly easier it took me a while to understand that I had to double click to flip myself fast enough and avoid touching the traps but overall very fun game!!

Menu design is very unique and looks great. Wished there were more level and modifiable controlle

Very original concept and beatiful design. Might need a bit more tweaking in terms of level design but again this is a great entry to the jam.

Really beautiful game! The main menu especially was really top notch.

The idea for switching between characters with different abilities was really cool, but I didn't find any use for the minion. Jumping didn't feel necessary because of how strong changing the gravity direction is.

With just a little more polish on the controls and level design, this may have easily been my favorite entry in the jam so far!

I loved the shaders, the menu is super cool too, between the smooth background transitions in each planets, and the smooth ease out bounce for planets ! Super cool, the idea is great, but the op character is the mage, the other is a bit useless I found, only jump then reverse screen, that would've been great if the 2 had complementary spells that help resolve puzzles / go to exit !

I would love to hear your feedback on my game too !

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the level design def need more thought into it. I probably will go back and create more levels and make them complement both character's strengths and weaknesses. Thank you for the feedback <3!

Good Game. Simple and fun.

Developer

Glad you liked it!! Thank you!!

Really good

Developer

Thank you so much!! <3

Menu is very nice! Nice concept with switching between the characters..
Although the issue with this game is that you can solve levels with pretty much just mage character, which renders playing as the first character obsolete..
Nonetheless it was fun, wished there were more levels

Developer(+1)

Yes, definitely needed a bit more time to polish up the level design, due to some real life schedule conflict, I wasn't able to design the level to the way I wanted, same reason with not having a bit more levels. Thank you for the feedback, and I will try my best to improve on next jam!

Love the artstyle. I spent way too long looking around the menus and admiring the art (especially how the icons zoom in, but the background also changes, and how the star fades out when you click the 'mute' star). Overall, the aesthetic was amazing.

Music and sounds were pretty good, suited the game quite well!

Gameplay-wise, I struggled with jumping a bit (momentum felt a bit wonky when jumping, like you lost most of your sidewards speed), but otherwise felt alright. Quite liked the gravity manipulation of the mage!

Game fits the theme really well, love the void coming in, the setting, and the gravity manipulation.

Otherwise really well done! I see this is your first GWJ entry, which makes it even more impressive :D Really well done, you should be proud of yourself!

Developer(+1)

Glad you like the game, with all the amazing comments from you and others, I feel a bit more proud for sure. Definitely will improve on this during next jam!

I liked the artistic style, quite unique, especially the menu. The gameplay is good, it could have been a little longer, but nothing that got in the way. The background music also matches the art in general. Congratulations for the game!

Developer

Yeah, I wanted to add more level that involve the usage of minion character a bit more, but due to some real life schedule I sadly had to settle with what I had. Thank you for the quick review <3!

I cannot believe this your first game jam! That's mental! Where have you been all this time?

The game is mentally hard. Even the second tutorial is stumping me - tho once I realised there were tutorials that made things a little easier to grasp!.

I'd recommend tweaking the UI of the main menu to highlight a sort of progression from tutorial one to two then level 1 etc. Just make it real obvious for dimwits like me

That said, you included a tutorial. I managed to add nothing in my game this jam and am very worried that the mechanics are pretty opaque...

Love the aesthetic of your game and I think just a bit more polish on the mechanics so it's clear how to switch gravity in the direction you want would help.

Developer(+1)

I wanted to make the progression on the main menu like you said, but I just didn't got the time to learn and ended up with the cheap approach, made the tutorial 1 the biggest and slowly shrink the following levels and was hoping that would be enough to navigate the player lol. Definite need to make the levels more polish and make the gravity switch machinic a bit more visual. Thank you for liking my game tho!

Really interesting game. I loved the music, and the SFX were so cute. I was wondering what the point of having both characters was, because I just switched to the mage and remained as them the whole time.

Developer

you are absolutely correct on the lack of character balancing. The original idea was given the fact that minion is faster and jumps higher, I was going to design the levels so that certain platform or enemies are only accessible or avoidable with minion's movement, and mage was only going to take part with their given void vision or gravity manipulation. But due to my schedule conflict late into the development, I wasn't able to make levels the way I wanted them, maybe I will carry out this game further more and make some interesting level designs.
Thank you for the feedback!

Some notes as I played this graphically stunning game:

  • Great cosmic atmosphere off the bat
  • Gorgeous and fun main menu design
  • Lovely transitions between resets / scenes
  • In the tutorials, not quite sure what the obstacles are (with the minion) that trigger resets / collision is attached to
  • Art and sound are wonderful
  • Once I found out you can change between characters, and the mage can rotate the level / see enemies, I thought "genius!" Reminded me of the indie game Darq.
  • Tutorial scenes very much appreciated, and first two levels are simple enough to cement how to use / manipulate the two characters. I'd love to see how the WIP turns out.

This is your first jam? Holy cow. Fantastic job, and welcome to the GWJ community!

Developer (1 edit)

For your comment "In the tutorials, not quite sure what the obstacles are (with the minion) that trigger resets / collision is attached to", they are the enemies that are invincible which you can only see with mage's void vision. I am not sure if this is what you are talking about.

Yes, is my first game jam ever, very fun experience and would definitely keep doing this, thank you for the feedback!

I enjoyed your game! I did not quite grasp the purpose of the minion character as the mage had all the cool powers. Your art was the best part, it all looked and animated great.

Developer (1 edit)

thank you so much for the feedback, I am aware that the level design is not quite polished, which in term kind of make minion low impact. Sadly some other tasks got in my way during the level design phase, maybe I would make some more levels in the future so both character would have similar usage for players to beat the given level.

Edit: the minion just moves faster and jump higher, the initial idea was to make platforms far enough that mage can't jump on it yet minion could.

Submitted

Ah, i thought it was easier to jump over the monsters with the minion. Once i figured out the level rotate ability though, jumping seemed less important since i could kind of fly. Congrats on your first game jam! It is my first as well, it is so cool to see how different all the games are so far.
