Very cool idea and mixing of perspectives! A quick and fun experience that could grow in a lot of directions. LOVE rolling snowballs to make them bigger! Great work!
I like this a lot. Great job. Kinda would have liked the snowballs to be a little more forgiving, but still great.
Thanks for playing and your feedback. The snowball pushing should have been improved but it's one of those things that I didn't manage to revisit unfortunately.
Great use of the theme! It's an idea I definitely couldn't have thought of and props to you for making a 3D game by yourself. I really liked the snowball mechanic and there was definitely a feeling of stress to not melt from the thaw for sure. I did wish there was something more that came out of the present mechanic though! Looking forward to see how this develops if you continue on
I wish a lot more came out of the present mechanic as well but due to time it became a very very thin collection mechanic. I would have liked to build puzzles around building bridges out of the snowballs to cross chasms as well.
Thanks for giving it a shot and your nice feedback.
That actually sounds like it would be a really cool (pun intended) addition to the game! :O Shame the deadline forbode it, but a game-changing (also intended) idea like that is defo worth looking at once you're more at-liberty to do so! :D
The snowball mechanic is nice! Very intuitve and fun. Wish there was more to it! The melted snowman looks funny.
Btw, how did you do the transition between snow and "the thaw"?
Hi Hzzzln, thanks for giving it a try. I also wish there was more but a lot of my ideas came far too late and I just needed to close the game loop as short as it was.
Someone else asked in the comments so I'm going to copy/paste my response from that:
I'll throw the fragment part of the shader in since that's the only part doing anything.
As I try to point out in the post this is a very slapped together shader so none of the code is well thought out it simply looked "good enough" haha.
Loved this game! Very cute, original and fun to play. Just the right level of difficulty to win first time around but still feel the challenge of the thaw approaching and narrowly avoiding melting into a puddle!
Would have tweaked the snowball rolling to make it "stick" to you a bit more maybe
Thanks for playing Pete. I agree about the snowball control. I got it to a state that was "good enough" and didn't revisit it unfortunately.
no worries. That’s pretty much how things go in game jams!
Really cool game! I like the snowman melting
Thanks for playing. I would have liked to add smoother transitions for the melting stages but I lack the art skills.
Still it's a good effect. Also I was curious how you did the thaw effect? It looks very cool.
It was quite slapped together. I could have researched an actual dissolve but I just guessed haha.
Since my game mostly takes place on the X axis I have a global shader value for that position and another global shader for an edge thickness. I check the world position of the current pixel and if within the edge value I blend between grass and snow while applying a noise texture and TIME for some randomness.
Oh I see. Thank you!
