Fantastic visuals, and I immediately recognized the artist from the last jam (Mecha Brawls). I haven't touched 3d yet, but it feels like extremely high-quality and complex work. However, just like in the previous jam, it feels like a huge mismatch between the visuals and the kind of game - the game mechanics/idea doesn't really leverage the cool visuals and to an extent - visuals distract from the puzzle nature of the game. I felt like I would enjoy it playing more as a simpler 2d or even clicker game - moving a 3d character and firing scripted magic felt rather irrelevant and excessive. I think with the level and kind of visuals, it would be much better to make a game that leverages VFX, not a puzzle. Or even if it is a puzzle - the VFX should be at its center rather than a side-effect.
That said - both VFX and the puzzle are quite good, and I enjoyed playing it! Sorry if I sound too critical - it just feels like a wasted opportunity due to a mismatch - for both puzzle (which would be easier to play with simpler visuals) and visuals (which would shine in a game focused on atmosphere and/or VFX).
Hello Rakudajin,
thanks for kind words! I always enjoy seeing constructive critics.
I was the artist for Mecha Brawls, how ever this jam the art credits go to Glockenberg. I helped with game design, development, some vfx and some animating. The big part of development goes to Pete while the character was modelled by Nickelodeon.
I agree making 3D games is not so easy and you often get lost focusing on many technical aspects rather than game aspects. For me jams fulfill the purpose of fun and learning which I did this jam and constructive critics definitely help learning and improving so thanks for that! :)
Sorry for the wrong assumptions, didn't mean to do unfair judgement of who did what. It's just when I opened the game - I immediately thought "oh, this must be those guys from Mecha Brawl," so I checked the team and you were the one on both teams :)
But probably it's just because both this and previous jam - the game you participate in is the only game with high-quality hilgh-level 3d stuff :) It's very outstanding!
And yep, totally agree that jams are for fun and learning, so sorry again if I were too critical :)
The atmosphere is so fun. I also love when there are 3d submissions, well done. It took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but I got there eventually.
thank you so much for playing and leaving a comment. I rushed the tutorial so totally understand it could have been clearer!
fun regardless!!
The ambience and atmosphere stood straight away on this one. It took me a few tries of failing miserably at the medium difficult until I dropped it to easy. A fun mechanic and the tower slowly changing colours helps you see which towers need attending even when you're focused on another.
thanks! Glad you could try it out and leave a review. I added difficulty late on as my teammates said it was too easy. I’m not sure if hard is even possible!
I liked the game! The way you had to split your attention between the towers to make sure they weren't too hot or too cold combined with the audio cues made a fun game. The difficulty selection made it possible to enjoy it casually or on "try hard" mode xD
Thank you for submitting this game!
thanks for playing and for your kind comments. Appreciate you leaving a review
Impressive game, I would've liked to see it be a bit more bright or at least more easy to identify which towers were not perfectly balanced. Love the graphics and the sounds though! Makes it feel very oldschool but the addition of PBR materials to it just made it feel more real. The HTML version didn't work well for me however but the Windows one worked just fine. Congrats on your game!
thanks! The HTML version is struggling with the textures I think. Glad you could access the desktop version ok. Thanks for playing and leaving a review
Nice atmosphere visually and aurally, graphics and lighting looks real nice. I really enjoyed the game, and the main mechanic is definitely fascinating, there are lots of ways to expand on it outside the jam. The static camera is a little too... static :). It's good to see all the pillars but I think that a little bit of a swing while moving the character could be a nice touch. I liked the funny tone of the tutorial. :)
I had no problems with the HTML5 version (on Firefox).
lovely comments! Thanks for playing. Get what you mean about the camera. It was originally moving with player but was a bit too much, a little swing would definitely improve things
i tried the browser version and it worked good for me, i liked the sound and it makes me get focus, i just tried the chill version but i think you could add some more thigs to do or separate more the pillars with some easy obstacles
hey thanks for playing and leaving a review! I do agree the gameplay could be more varied - but we just wanted a quick 2min play through and the different difficulty levels give some replay ability.
unplayable html, froze after second room. Great lighting and sound from what I saw initially. I wish I could have played more.
sad to hear. Well the game is mainly made in 3d with pbr which requires more performance and I would prefer you to try out the local versions if you want. They should work fine.
Since the html is working in our tests, I wanted to ask you what browser and what OS system you are using?
