Very fun but a health bar would have been nice ! congrats on your first jam this is really impressive

Great job!  A simple idea but fun and easy to figure out, perfect for a game jam!

That was fun! The first time I only accidentally triggered the trap, I didn't pay much attention to it (which meant I had a colony of ants chasing me, only once trapped accidentally, but I made it xD), but after replaying I made full use of it, which was so satisfying.

[Note that there seems to be a bug when gathering leaves above 100 : the numbers above 100 seemed to update at a different pace (which, if not accidental, is a good idea to balance out extreme hoarding) and bringing them all back to the nest made the nest gigantic and it was impossible to bring more leaves to it.]

Really good, overall!

Simple but very enjoyable! A  very clever capturing mechanic, great job :D

Great job for a first time entry! Trapping the ants in the web was very satisfying and a good mechanic. Well done!

Awesome mechanic and super fun! I used the silk a lot to slow the ants down, so I could herd them and trap them easily.

One problem that I had is that I was focused on making the silk pattern and closing it, and I didn't know when I was being hit by the ants, specialy when I already had a lot of ants and leaves around. Some kind of graphic or audio feedback on that would help.

Developer

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you liked it. Totally hear you on audio and graphic indicators! Thank you for the feedback

This is a really good concept. I felt like capturing the ants was a bit too difficult given how much webbing you get. Maybe if the webbing increased every time you ate a leaf.

Depositing leaves is also dangerous because you drop to 0 every time leaving you vulnerable.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah I couldn't figure out a good way to balance that mechanic, it is quite punishing to deposit all your leaves leaving you vulnerable

This game is surprisingly fun! I kept playing until I beat it - Definitively didn't get addicted to it XD

I love the concept of trapping enemies in the web, it's really fun to trap around 30 ants at once lol

But one thing that bothered me is how ants can move in any direction while the player is limited to move in 4 directions only. That made the game feel kinda unfair, mainly in level 4.

Lastly, you're kinda encouraging the player to not level up. The player dies if they have no leaves, right? So if I lose all my leaves when I level up  what's the point of leveling up unless I have about 300 leaves to beat the game in one go? I know you can trap more enemies as you level up, but once you reach level 3 you can just farm a bunch of leaves then go straight to level 5 and beat the game.

I hope you add more to this game after the jam. I'll surely give it another try ;)

Keep up the good work!

Developer

Wow! I'm glad you enjoyed it and were able to beat it haha. Thanks so much for the feedback, I did notice that dynamic starting to unfurl in the game design but wasn't sure how to balance it properly.

Really fun concept, the ant trapping is really cool. I didn't quite understand how I was dying sometimes... Is it like Sonic where if you get hit while you have 0 leaves you die? It's unfortunate that turning in your leaves makes you super vulnerable, but I guess that's part of the challenge. Overall it was a lot of fun though!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it =) yeah that is the mechanic, I couldn't figure out a good way to balance it or make it not as punishing and figured maybe the challenge or the balancing act would be okay. But it does seem to be a theme in the comments

Is this your first game period, or just your first gamejam game? It's really good! Liked this a lot. It's kinda addictive. Loved some of the art; the ants and webbing effect in particular. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for checking it out! I'm glad you liked it. Kind of both. I've been experimenting with Godot and game dev here and there, but haven't actually made any "complete" games. I found the game jam was incredibly helpful in getting me to actually think about an achievable MVP in a reasonable amount of time.
