Fun course! I enjoyed flying through the neighbourhood at ground level, but in the sky I started getting motion sick. Then I read the comments and realised the updated version has vignette so tried that and the motion sickness was much better, but not 100% motion sickness proof, I guess with these types of games you just have to have a strong stomach! I appreciate what you've done to make it easier on us weak stomachs though!

This was a lot of fun - I would have like to be able to climb and dive faster, but it was very intuitive to fly.

Cool broom flying game! I tried the vignette update and I think it was about 25%-50% better in terms of avoiding motion sickness. I still ended up motion sick though, but such is the nature of flying games like this, especially when I'm making more aggressive turns to try to get into those loops.

Neat game.  I liked the options for the different brooms.  I could only handle the toddler one and even then the steering was super sensitive.  I liked the environment and the floating islands above and below.

Good job

The broom spawned below my floor :/ (PCVR via ALVR) I did use a setting in alvr to force my height to 0, then I could test the game.

The game is a good concept but I couldn't test for more than one minute because I got motion sickness, I think it's because the broom rotate fast, is very prone to small changes and in general is too sensitive to changes, so even the small movement in the hand could make a hard move in the camera. Also the speed is too much to be my first time flying 🤣

Developer

I only tested with my Quest, and recentering the view always moves the broom to the correct position for me.

Did you test the updated version with the vignette option to mitigate motion sickness?

Which broom did you use? The first you get rotates pretty slowly, so there might be a problem that shows only on some headsets? I'll have to investigate this.

I only try the first broom. Try to test it via PCVR, maybe that's the problem, if it helps, I used a quest 2.

I didn't try the newest version with the vignette, I'll as soon as I can, maybe the weekend. If you don't mind, leave me a message in the weekend asking me about the game again

A little motion sickness, so my broom flies very slowly. But the game environment is nice.

Developer

Did you test the vignette option?

Nice take on broom riding! I am thankfully immune to sim sickness, so I blasted around on the fastest stick for a while with no issue (well, besides having very little control). Nice music changes too. Could definitely extend this into a full game, either like a multiplayer kart racing style, or a single player adventure.

I crashed into a house door at the very end, which also crashed the game. Just as planned, I'm sure.

Developer

I added an updated version after the game jam's deadline (mainly to add an optional vignette), the full list of changes is in the game page. The initial release is still available.

Definitely a neat idea, but features to help with motion sickness will be a must 😂
Once I got the hang of it it was fun to fly around even without the tracks, though the faster brooms get real hard to control, but thats probably just a skill issue on my part lol, nice job!

Developer(+1)

I added an updated version with an optional vignette.

Nice!  Ill have to give that one a shot

Hi I struggled a bit to get things started but you can watch my playthrough here https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2384636708?t=01h45m53s

(Valve Index on Windows) I had to recenter my play area because the broom spawned outside for some reason things were weird. I think I have to redo my room setup now 🥲

I had to stop at some point because of motion sickness, I gotta work on getting my body/brain used to this kind of experience. And I had played the Syneed one before which was also bit motion-sickness/weird-feeling inducing 😅

But nice game overall and probably really fun for the VR gamers who can take it. I remember playing a bit of “V-Racer Hoverbike” on Steam which is similar.

Developer(+2)

Good point. I added a line about recentering the view in the description.

I also added a vignette option to mitigate motion sickness, but I can't update until the end of the game jam.

I feel like thatd be a fine update for player comfort, I had asked about adding other platforms and the response on the community post was that small updates like that are fine as long as youre upfront about them and its not just you still working on the game, this jam is pretty relaxed.

This look awesome! Unfortunately, my system has an issue where if the player calibrate in the XR Player body is left on my height in the game 2X high. So can't reach the broom because it's below my floor :(

Developer

Damn, I didn't use the XRToolsPlayerBody scene... But I'll have a look at the code to try to understand what happens. Could you please tell me more about your system and which export you used?
Maybe I can  try to make a fixed version for you (after the jam is over so I don't cheat by providing updated releases).

Submitted (1 edit)

I'm using a Pimax Crystal light with lighthouse tracking, index controller, and steamvr. I used the windows version. Are you sure you're not using the player body scene? It gets auto added when you add hand scenes.

Developer(+1)

I think it's added when you add a movement behavior? My Player scene just has a simple (non-xr) CharacterBody node.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to find a fix. :)

Developer(+1)

I tried to guess a fix and added a download named "test_height_bug.zip" in case you have time to test. ;)

Submitted(+1)

The new version didn't fix it but I used the recenter in steamVR and that fixed it. I tested original version and recentering also fixed it. I should have tried to start with but I don't think I ever had use that feature. I'm not sure if the issue is the game or my janky Pimax/index setup.

Anyways, this game plays really well! Super fun flying around and doing the time trials. Great work!

Developer

OK, so my "fix" is useless, I'll delete it. Thanks for testing it anyway. :)

Submitted(+1)

Nice concept, well executed. Great job!

(I'm kinda prone to motion sickness and I could only play this one for a limited time. An option for a vignette would be nice.)

Developer(+1)

Good point! I'll fix this after the game jam.
