This is fun but a bit difficult. I wish you could shoot while moving. But otherwise a lot of fun.
We were thinking of allowing for such option for light weapons like pistols and melee enabling the option to attack while.
Thank you for playing the game and providing feedback on he gameplay.
It was a bit tricky to work out exactly what I was supposed to do to play the game at first but once I worked it out it was all good. There's a good concept here, just need more feedback on the UI aspects. 1) Maybe mark out which one is the player character (I couldn't work out which one was me for a while). 2) Have some sort of target reticle to show where your character is firing and lobbing grenades. Good concept just needs to tweak the UI for playability.
The UI design we completely left it out but yes a lot of work is needed there to be done so that it integrates well with the game graphics and provides necessary information to know about. And as for the Player we initially thought of adding the option to choose which side to fight for along with character choice but due to time cutting short scrapped that idea out.
But thank you for playing and the constructive feedback. Hopefully in the future when time allows we will tweak and polish the game until the desired end result is achieved.
Hard to see what you were shooting. I liked the grenades. Fun game
Yes the shooting visual could have used some animation for visual indication of action taking place.
Thank you for the feedback and playing the game.
I like the graphics for the soldiers - nicely drawn. The controls are ok but it's little hard to see the line of fire of the rifle - it looks like I had to hit the enemies roughly in the chest.
It's difficult to recover after getting killed as the enemies are too close - being able to fire up and down might help this. Also, maybe a melee option for hand to hand combat so that bumping into an enemy isn't death.
The line of fire is hard to see due to color of it being yellow I still don't know what colors to choose to make this effect stand out better. Also in case anyone noticed the bullet, on each shoot made by Player and AI, would vary on distance travelled for purpose of stimulating the possibility of hit or miss a target.
And in order to kill enemies YES you have to hit them in the main body part. This also frustrated me when designing this because I had to set the collision polygon of each unit such that the bullets land on the proper area of the unit bodies (they don't die if bullets hit their hat).
For Player recovery probably a timer would have been appropriate to indicate how long to wait until respawn along with death animations for visual feedback. The ability to shoot up and down relative to a fixed vertical position was something planned for machine guns only as to simulate machine gun accuracy. Melee sounds like an interesting idea. And when bumping into ally or enemy units there is no instance death unless a bullet was fired and it hit you in case there were confusions.
But never the less thank you for playing and providing game feedback.
It is fun to play, the controls are pretty easy, maybe some instructions would have helped at the beginning to make the controls clear from the beginning, the sound is nice, and the game is overall a fun experience.
The instructions were on the main menu page under the play button probably the way the instructions were illustrated, as a plain image, was not the best choice of communicating the instructions. In future will look into adding visual animations demonstrating what the player is to do in game.
But still thank you for playing and providing feedback.
I found the game really hard but overall is very good, and good choice of music!
About the music I also realized that the main game music keeps playing along with the battle music in the background when transitioning from the the main menu to level scene.
Thank you for playing and providing feedback on gameplay.
I always love game like this; where you play as a combatant in a war with the same purpose as all your comrades. The graphics are cute. Really well made game!
Thank you for playing and the feedback. Hopefully Level 1 wasn't to difficult or punishing.
I enjoyed it ! Maybe a little too hard but graphics are super cute ! The audio is matching the game, and the mechanics are really good !
Thank you playing and providing feedback. Without feedback it is difficult for designer to determine if the game mechanic design is fun and enjoyable to play and whether it is worth investing the time into expanding the mechanic further.
Honestly, I enjoyed it way more than I would have expected! The game captures the sense of advancing vs. retreating, and a moving line of offense quite well.
Thank you playing and the feedback.
Nice game. I only wish I would have a bigger gun - enemies are crossing my lines every time and I can't defend enough. The little soldier guys are really cute and the scenery blends really well with the style you have chosen for your game. Good job.
After the game jam rating is over and if time allows in future will try to improve the AI, add options for Player to explore the game more with different weapon selection, and polish up the artwork.
Thank you for playing the game and providing feedback.
Really fun game. I loved the whole gameplay loop and the cute graphics, but I would have liked to be able to shoot while moving (but I read your replies below and understand why it's not an option). Would also have been nice with some visual or sound confirmation when you take down an enemy trooper instead of him just popping out of existence. :)
Overall, great job. :)
The death animation was planned to be implemented but didn't manage to get the death animation for each character done on time. As for the death sound effect it is really faint and we just noticed that now.
Thank you for noticing the detail that was missed and playing the game.
I like the mechanics. It is quite advanced for a jam game. It was challenging and maybe a bit too hard, but I had fun nevertheless.
The character needs to stop to attack, so when walking and pressing the attack button the character keeps walking. I think it would be better if the attack had a higher priority than walking, so the character stops and shoots in this case. It would also make this mechanic more intuitive.
Levels 2 and 3 are the only levels where if you cross the opposite end you win. If Level 1 was hard I apologize didn't mean to make the game feel like it is punishing.
Yes the Player has to stop to shoot. The main reason for that was to prevent the Player from killing the enemy to fast, because I noticed that while moving and shooting you will be able to kill the AI quicker making the game to easy.
But the attack or combat system is something that we planned to prioritizes in our game initially with weapon choice of rifle, pistol, machine gun, and grenades, calling a specific unit reinforcement, units having more distinct abilities and surrounding support, artillery and air support.
But due to time limit we realized that we over scoped our design so we had to remove a lot over time to get the game complete on time.
Thank you for playing and your feedback very much appreciated.
This was a very difficult game and a little unfair perhaps. I think it would add a lot to be able to take more than one shot to die and a bit faster movement, alternatively have a lot less time needed to complete a level. The concept is fun, but it was too difficult for me - I didn't manage to complete any levels, but my son got very far, haha! This game was his favourite so far! :) Look-wise it's very cartoonish and neat, I liked it! A very nice way to separate the player from the npc:s by subtle differens in look!
Level 1 is difficult without the ability to cross the enemy line to win the level and I also forgot to set the time limit to 2 minutes instead of 5 minutes so sorry on my end. The game concept is based on "Art of War: Stalingrad Winters" in case you or any body is interested.
Thank you for playing the game and providing constructive feedback.
