Exceptional job capturing the intended atmosphere and channeling the source inspiration.
A bonus might be a brief overview of the adventure before jumping into the history on page 2. The BREED CYCLE OF THE MIND-KHEG section was great.
I liked the map and layout. I also liked that each of the Mind-Kheg forms in the monsters section had some unique elements for combat.
Agood OSRlien adventure :-)
Great writing, clean layout, cool map and amazing art.
I'd have rated this highly simply for the genius of Jonsey the Badger, but the rest deserves a high rating too! The alien influence is maybe a little on the nose, but at the same time, it's really cool. I can see the dwarven magictech being really fun to play with.
So impressed with this one! Great premise, great map. The information layout is really top notch. I appreciate that you included your design prompt, a simple timeline that gives all the context needed, and delve shifts to use with Knave 2e specifically! I liked the separate section for all the magical items that could be found also. Easy to read room descriptions, just straight up a solid horror crawl!
Dwarves with split skulls skittering around on all fours?? Can't wait to freak players out with that one XD
Love this. The look of it is awesome, and the idea of the Key of the Condemned is so good that I'm going to have to include that as a boss feature at some point. It would be cool if there were more starting hooks, for how this adventure might be entered by a party that's already been hexcrawling for a while. But it'd be easy to throw this up on a missions board or something.
You have a ton of cool ideas with this adventure, and a really nice dungeon. Good job! Excited to toss this into my next campaign :)
Okay, while I was getting into the thick of reading this, a construction vehicle down the street started emitting a strange blip sound that was a spot-on match for the Alien motion sensors. And it genuinely made my heart speed up for a second. Combine that with your generator prompt being such a strong platform for this concept, and I'd say reality is conspiring on Ankheg's behalf.
This is both a fun original adventure and a great adaptation of Alien! It's well thought out within the fantasy world context, with plenty of new ideas to intrigue and shock the players. Plus I like how the Warrior evokes the original singular Alien, while the Nymphs evoke the hoards of aliens from sequels. You had your brain-cake and ate it, too! Nice horror, nice homage, and above all nice original spin!
To echo the other comments, the provided map is really fantastic - I can hear the ping of the motion sensor from 'Aliens' perusing it.
Additionally, the sentence, "Once a cozy set of stables, the straw and dirt here are slick with the pulpy remains of three emulsified mules"? 10/10, no notes.
Thank you very much! That’s great to hear.
This shows me that I could have done so much more with the space available. Layout is great, writing is great, and I'm in love with that map. Minimal art still packs the desired punch. No problems detected. Great work.
Thank you so much!
I'm here for the pre-nomorphs!
Haha thanks!
Do I see a little bit of Alien influence in this? Regardless, I really like the framing of the adventure. It reads less like a straightforward dungeon-crawl, and more like an atmospheric investigation. Reading a lot of character put into the environment
Haha for sure. Thank you, I’m glad the vibe came through!
Fun to read, interesting setup. Good layout and organization. Probably will need to flip to map regularly in book format.
I echo all this and would add maybe a printable map addition to reduce the need for "flipping..." though that isn't a big turn-off for me, I do recognize it as a need for some. Love the green too! Cheers
Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you!
