Amazing work, you really nail the brief with this one haha, it's loads of fun and the sprites and animations are super cute and the whole thing just works on every level. If I'm trying to find some constructive criticism I'd say you could expand the theme to be more wacky and in tune with the crazy vibe of the whole genre, so maybe make the power ups more original, even if they do the same thing. Like, even if the shoot faster add on makes him shoot faster, it could just be called something entirely different, I dunno, he could be shooting peas so it could be the Pea Shooter Plus or something, with a cute Pea with a face bouncing up and down instead of the Sergeant stripes haha - that's a super bad example I know, I just thought of it off the top of my head :'D
Anyway just thought I'd try and bring something to the table that might help make this incredibly awesome little game even better if you take it on, because basically you've done an amazing job with this as it is ;)
very fun to play. simplistic game with a lot of fun aspects. the heat indicator is nice but i would suggest to put it near the player or above the aim cursor since that's generally where the players focus would be. outside of that, its very fun. music and sound effects would make this a very good game to come back to and spend some mind numbing minutes blowing stuff up repeatedly. I can see this game being a very popular one with some more polishing. great job and keep up the work!
EDIT: my kid plugged in some headphones and i didnt realize it, ignore my comment about the music/sound effects. they are really good! LOL
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. Great point regarding the heat indicator, I agree that could do with some work there.
You've really hit the ground running with this game while learning a new engine, I want to congratulate you because you've made a game that is super fun, charming, has tight gameplay, and high replay value! Curious to see where you can take this game!
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback :-)
This is fun. I really like the animation.
Thanks for playing and the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed :-)
I had fun playing this game!
I liked the simple but effective graphics, the bullets, impacts on enemies and the defeated enemies on the floor, that was great.
Having different types of enemies was interesting to have different strategies for each one!
Having more punishing overheating would increase the necessity of not wasting bullets.
Congratz for developing that game :)
Hey thanks for playing my game and providing some feedback. I'm glad you had fun, and enjoyed some of the effects.
Interesting comment regarding the overheating effect. I dialled this back from how it was in earlier builds as it felt too much, and at one point I considered taking it out of the game completely, but I really like the mechanic of it to make players use their bullets more wisely and not just mindlessly shoot continuously. At that point however I think enemies were faster and stronger, so I might be able to get away with dialling back up a notch. Thanks for the feedback :-)
This was simple yet efficient, and pretty fun! Here are my points:
- Love the retro style, sprites and animations are cute;
- A small thing, but resetting character position for choosing upgrades felt like an unnecessary interruption;
- Enemies with more health should have something to let players know about their increased health;
- I kept getting more health, but never saw any indication of my health bar getting bigger;
- I've only played once so far so I couldn't check, is there a way to win?;
- Overheating mechanic felt satisfying without being too punitive.
Hey, thanks for playing my game and taking the time to provide your feedback. There's some interesting stuff here for me to consider.
I just wanted to pry into the 2nd point - was it is just the forced reset to the central location and/or loss of control of the character that felt unnecessary, or something else entirely? Initially I planned to a power up animation but didn't get around to it. Do you think that collecting a specific power up would feel better? Or possibly being able to click on them?
Yeah just the repositioning that felt weird, I understand why it's there, just didn't think it was necessary as it can be much more apparent if you happened to complete the wave around the bottom of the screen. Collecting or shooting power-ups would definitely feel more immersive yeah as the gameplay wouldn't be interrupted. That being said the current interruption also provides a pause to catch their breath should players need it.
Thanks for coming back to me on that point. I'll have a think about how to improve on this bit. :-)
Simple but elegant. The animation of the enemies exploding combined with the sound effects did a lot for the game. Loved the music as well.
Thanks for playing and submitting feedback it is greatly appreciated :-)
Awesome job on this game! It had a very great game feel in the graphics and feedback on the hit/death of enemies and the player. I loved how it got very tense very fast with simple mechanics. I would have loved some sounds along with the juicy graphics. Going from here I would love to see some overarching/longterm goals of the game. I understand survival but why haha; not a bad part of feedback but where to go from here. Really great job on your first game! I enjoyed it alot and would love to see you build more on it.
Thank you so much for the great feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I did have an intro in mind but I had no idea how to do a cutscene so that's something to work on. Was there any particular things you thought could use a sound?
Anything and everything. Especially firing your weapon, hitting/killing enemies, and taking damage. I just feel the sweet melting animations you made have to have a sweet sound effect to go along with them haha.
That's odd. There is sound and music. Did you play through the randomizer page or directly on the game's itch page? I've noticed issues with other people's games when trying to use the randomizer, like not being able to maximise the screen.
I love how polished this looks! You did a great job with the juiciness of the game. The effects are top-notch and the sound effects fit perfectly. The music also keeps speeding up, which makes the player more and more nervous I would say. :D
Not really sure what else to write that hasn't already been written by others. Keep it up and nice work!
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback!
I think this was a phenomenal example of leveraging basic art and music. The simplicity of it compelled me to play because it was incredibly obvious what I was meant to do and I could just focus on doing that one thing which made upgrades factor into how I could do that one thing better. Loved the increased pace of the music at each level as it really heightened the sense of tension. When I saw the first yellow guy I was like, oh crap this just kicked up a notch. I could picture something fleshed out with content that revolves around this gameplay loop. Very good work.
Thanks for the great feedback! I'm glad that's the impression you got from the yellow one as that's what I was going for! :-)
Great job on the updates you made compared to the version I played before. The animations when you shoot the guys is nice and I like that you made it so you keep going when they touch you for a while. Look forward to seeing it develop more.
Hey there thanks for the feedback. I'm not quite sure what you meant by "so you keep going when they touch you for a while", do you mean that you feel there's a better balance of damage / health?
Yeah, the last time I played it as soon as the enemy touched you, you lost but the balance seemed much better in this version
Ah yes, great, I'm glad to hear that :-)
Very fun. Huge improve over the last iteration I playtested. The directions on how to play definitely helped me out too. I agree with everything IAO Games said 100%.
Thank you so much!
I had a lot of fun with this, the gameplay feels well crafted and does exactly what it needs to do, also the animation where the enemies explode into a shower of pixels is super satisfying especially when combined with the sound effect you use!
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the death animations. I wasn't sure if they were a bit over the top, given the (hopefully) cuteness of the characters.
