Interesting to see another mech game focused on mechs constructing, fixing, or saving things rather than horribly destroying everything in sight, lol.

PROS:

  • The story was short and to the point to get an emotional response out of me even though it wasn't more than even a few lines of text.
  • The animations on the little people sprites seemed to be pretty cool as they were walking across the bridge.
  • There was a nice sense of urgency and tension from the various feedback that you had about the impending wave as time wore on.

CRITIQUE:

  • I'd really like to better see the people that I'm saving as the game plays out. They're currently black sprites against a black background so I don't even really know how many there are. If you wanted to keep them black and mysterious then adding something like lightning strikes that flash the background and get the people to pop up on the bridge in contrast would be a super nice effect and fit with the stormy context.
  • I really liked the highlighting on the pieces when I was close enough to pick them up, but basically expected similar behavior when I got close to a place where they could be placed on the bridge. Without highlighting placement points the current art doesn't really look that broken so it was harder for me to figure out where I'd need to put the pieces.
  • I was confused at the end and died a couple times after fixing the bridge because I didn't know what I was supposed to do with myself. Hiding behind the right cliff apparently didn't work to save me, but hiding behind the left cliff did. There doesn't seem to be a lot of feedback telling me where I should be going after the bridge is fixed and getting a "You Died" message after successfully fixing the bridge just felt bad as a player so it would be good to have further feedback for what to do next there.

That was a sad little tale, good though!

Nice puzzle game. I wonder if you can save all of them.

Now, if one had an idea on how well one scored besides the absolute number...

This was a really clever take on the secondary theme. I liked it!

We have a bit of narrative here :) I liked reading it, thank you! Good job

You're right, we were on the same wavelength with the hurricane theme.  xD  I liked the race-against-time puzzle aspect of it, which is interesting because usually I hate puzzles like that.  Great job!

A fun game! The controls were a bit difficult to get used to  I like what you have so far though! It was sort of hard to tell exactly what  was going on. I thought when the first wave hit that it would be game over, but I realized it wasn't. If you wanna keep working on it all it needs is a bit of polish and maybe some more levels and narrative and it'd be an awesome game!

Developer

Sorry for the confusion everyone - you can edit the controls in the options menu and view the defaults there. Default controls are:
Move L/R -> Arrow L/R
Pick up -> Arrow Up
Drop -> Arrow Down
Place -> Spacebar
That last one is really the key to being able to complete the game

So like the other people, I had trouble knowing what to do - I held the beams up but the people didn't move.

The ambience was really cool, with a sort of 'underground railroad' type thing - i like the idea of this mech helping refugees, and the writing at the start was emotive!

I tried to play it, but didn't really understand how. Some instructions would be nice. I tried clicking everywhere, but all I could do was stop the people for a little bit. I had no idea what controls would help me fix the bridge.

Very nice!  It took me a few tries to grasp what was being asked of me but as this was only really a single beat long I think that is probably a good thing.  Nice work <3

I like the visuals and I liked the theme (Although depressingly real) . The music was a good fit for the game.  I did not really understand how to should place the beams, so never managed to help these people across :(
