I really liked how you combined the game's sfx with the aesthetic to create such a a great execution. The simplicity was good. I had no idea what to do in the beginning of the game but after a while playing, I became intrigued. The experience for me was quite enjoyable. Great entry :)
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! :)
Wonderful game! Loved the concept, controls, and ESPECIALLY the aesthetics.
Some technicalities that could use improvements:
- Camera movement is a bit jittery, thus making it hard to look at for long periods of time;
- Character gets stuck on corners;
- It's not very clear that the candles are candles, nor how many there are left.
I didn't mind the difficulty, and I found the whole Finding-Out-What-To-Do aspect really well done. The hiding places glowing was a clear indicator that something could be done.
Overall a really fun experience, and I wish it was a bit longer. I can see myself spending hours on a game like this, if there were more mechanics, levels, and challenges.
Btw LOVED THE SFX, especially when the ghost starts chasing you.
I'm glad you liked it! A lot of the thing's you've mentioned I certainly agree on, and I think I might go back and fix up some of the major issues, although I'm not sure about expanding this concept yet. This is the first jam where I really went all out on sound design, instead of getting some random music and random 8-bit sounds from sfxr, so I'm really glad you like that. :)
It’s great! I love it so much that my palms are sweating.
But there’s a bug. You can enter behind the tall wardrobe and even through the wall.
It didn’t even occur to me that the hitbox of the wardrobe went past the wall, thanks for pointing that out. I’m glad you enjoyed it! :)
Really cool aesthetic, the simplistic pixel art and creepy sounds work together well. The ghost's "scream" is especially horrifying. Like some others, I found it a bit difficult to figure out what to do in the game, it's not obvious that you can hide from the ghost and I kept just dying in the beginning as well.
Yeah sorry about the difficulty. Also, fun fact, the ghost’s scream is actually the sound of a fox. Thank you for playing!
This looked really cool and the audio was great. I died 20 times though and did not know how to play. Definitely needed a tutorial or something to explain and maybe the ghost could be a bit slower especially since the player gets stuck on just about every corner.
Good bones here though. Keep at it!
Sorry for how much trouble you had to deal with. I have a bad habit of making games much harder than they need to be. I’m glad you liked it though! :)
Trust me. I am usually in the same boat. Its all about practice. Keep at it!
Simple and great, small drawback, it is just the lack of indication of what it is necessary to make but we understand rather quickly. That surprised me when the ghost appeared for the first time.
Thank you for playing, sorry for the lack for explanation.
Art and sound are very good, but at first I had no idea what to do, because I didn't see the candles and didn't realize that you could hide in stuff, making it very frustrating, because I died constantly and had to wait through the "intro" again.
After noticing the candles and reading in a comment that you can hide in things it became way more fun. The only thing I still found a little annoying was that the ghost sometimes detected me without me knowing why, but overall great job. :)
Thanks for playing! And sorry for not explaining things properly. Also, the opening thing should probably be skippable, I should’ve thought about that.
Everything is fine. Just wanted to tell you my experience. Sorry, if you felt attacked.
I didn't feel attacked at all! I love constructive criticism, and I agree with and understand a lot of the things you pointed out. Please don't feel sorry for anything at all.
Cool game !
The concept is really simple but fun & well executed?
The art is very minimalistic but looks nice. The hiding spots could stend out a bit more as they tend to blend a bit with the rest (maybe a different color or an outline change when you hover over them)
The collision issues with the walls were indeed a bit annoying but, once you get the hang of it, it is definetly playable.
Great work! This is fun :)
There is actually a blue outline when the player stands over a hiding spot, but now you mention it, I probably should have made it a mouse hover thing instead. Thank you for playing and giving feedback
Perfect game! really fun, actually.
Thank you :
