Description
I wanted to follow the theme quite closely and felt that both complemented each other so I envisioned the soundtrack as being for a game following a young girl who drifts into a watery dream world inside her head when she sleeps.

I imagined the gameplay as being something along the lines of a Yume Nikki inspired indie game, alternating between feeling mysterious and joyful. Though not without a hint that there might be an element of danger.

Tracks 2 & 4 are intended to play as continuous loops so I returned to the intro and did a fade out to demonstrate this.

I would say the main genre I followed was ambient music.
I was inspired by soundtracks for games & films like Chrono Trigger, Citizen Sleeper, FEZ, Final Fantasy X, The Floor is Jelly, ICO, L.O.L, Stardew Valley, A Scene at the Sea & Sonatine.
But I also took inspiration from Kankyo Ongaku / Japanese Ambient artists like Hiroshi Yoshimura, Takashi Kokubo, Shiho Yabuki, INOYAMALAND & Fumio Miyashita.
As well as ambient & ambient dance music artists such as Global Communication, John Beltran, The Detroit Escalator Co., K-Lone, KMRU, Suzanne Kraft, Kevin McHugh, Yamaneko & Whatever The Weather.

The first track is your character drifting to sleep, then when the clock ticking fades away she leaves the waking world and emerges in her undersea dream world.

The second track is one of generally exploring the undersea dream world in a more sparse and dark area.

The 3rd track is heavily inspired by the image and imagines a brief sequence or cut scene in which your character dances with ghostly fishes like those depicted.

The Final track is similar to the second but would take place in a more hidden location like a cave in which a secret or puzzle leading to a reward would be found.

I wrote all the tracks in FL Studio.

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
As I mentioned in the description I imagined the game as being one in which the girl depicted in the image is your character and you explore an underwater dream world she goes to in her mind when she sleeps.

In line with this I tried to make every track feels underwater, mysterious and dreamy through the sounds and musical techniques.

We indeed do feel underwater you nailed the immersion on this one, great use of sound design overall. Drifting to sleep is my favourite it can also 100% be a Lofi song, just drop a drum in there and here we go you got both your game soundtrack and a LoFi song to play on the radio. Good job !

Your submission is lovely!! I love the ambient, the pads, the electric piano and all the sound effects you've added. I felt immersed in the water throughout the whole listening. The soundtrack is very relistenable by trying to pay attention to the various sound effects every time :D I have a clear picture of the kind of game that soundtrack would be applied to :D

Really loved the sound design of this whole OST. Your music is already beautiful, but all of those watery SFX you integrated into the tracks enhanced it even further. Great job!

I absolutely love these tracks, they are all calm and relaxing yet exciting hearing all these well placed sounds throughout.

They are all incredibly well made and just beautiful, my personal favourite is Drifting to sleep I absolutely adore this track. Love the water motif throughout as it captures both the text and image theme to the fullest.

Fantastic job!

Really cool! I like the way it uses simple ideas and all the variations that comes from them! Especially like the sounddesign in "Dancing with the fish spirits"! If I had something to add, that would be more variety in the harmonic rhythm.

Thank you, glad you liked it! :)

And thank you for the feedback, that is good advice!

I really like this! It’s super cohesive and is not overly flashy while also not being boring. It fits the themes perfectly and is mastered very well. Overall, great job! (My favorite track was Dancing with the Fish Spirits by the way!)

A fantastic cohesive collection of tracks. The synth work is a delight and a pleasure to listen to. It's hard to pick a favorite - I think my choices would be either Drifting to Sleep or Dreams of Water, and of those two the latter might just clutch it. The water motif throughout is clever.

Fantastic work! The mix is great, and each instrument choice feels deliberate; it just works so well together. Dancing With the Fish was my favorite, but it was really close! Each track is excellent. :D

The sound design is one of the things that stands out to me the most about this, your instrumentation all meshes really well and creates an incredible atmospheric effect. Very tasteful use of reverb and delay to help create that signature "underwater" feel throughout this. Dancing With The Fish Spirits reminds me a lot of the terraria soundtrack, super playful and easy on the ears with fun sound effects to help sell that underwater feeling again, which is continued fantastically into mystery! You create some really cool rhythms with these drip and bubble effects and its so fascinating to hear how well you blend this all together for a super cohesive experience.

Absolutely nailed the picture theme. The sounds and ambience really take you. If the picture was the cover art of a game THIS would be the soundtrack. Really great composition and quality as well. Really great work.
