Description
I wanted to follow the theme quite closely and felt that both complemented each other so I envisioned the soundtrack as being for a game following a young girl who drifts into a watery dream world inside her head when she sleeps.
I imagined the gameplay as being something along the lines of a Yume Nikki inspired indie game, alternating between feeling mysterious and joyful. Though not without a hint that there might be an element of danger.
Tracks 2 & 4 are intended to play as continuous loops so I returned to the intro and did a fade out to demonstrate this.
I would say the main genre I followed was ambient music.
I was inspired by soundtracks for games & films like Chrono Trigger, Citizen Sleeper, FEZ, Final Fantasy X, The Floor is Jelly, ICO, L.O.L, Stardew Valley, A Scene at the Sea & Sonatine.
But I also took inspiration from Kankyo Ongaku / Japanese Ambient artists like Hiroshi Yoshimura, Takashi Kokubo, Shiho Yabuki, INOYAMALAND & Fumio Miyashita.
As well as ambient & ambient dance music artists such as Global Communication, John Beltran, The Detroit Escalator Co., K-Lone, KMRU, Suzanne Kraft, Kevin McHugh, Yamaneko & Whatever The Weather.
The first track is your character drifting to sleep, then when the clock ticking fades away she leaves the waking world and emerges in her undersea dream world.
The second track is one of generally exploring the undersea dream world in a more sparse and dark area.
The 3rd track is heavily inspired by the image and imagines a brief sequence or cut scene in which your character dances with ghostly fishes like those depicted.
The Final track is similar to the second but would take place in a more hidden location like a cave in which a secret or puzzle leading to a reward would be found.
I wrote all the tracks in FL Studio.

Theme
How does it fit the theme?
As I mentioned in the description I imagined the game as being one in which the girl depicted in the image is your character and you explore an underwater dream world she goes to in her mind when she sleeps.
In line with this I tried to make every track feels underwater, mysterious and dreamy through the sounds and musical techniques.

Very dreamy soundtrack! Loved all of the different sound effects that you used to convey the proper atmosphere. The story is a little lackluster, however, and could use a bit more depth. Nevertheless, music-wise, great job!
thank you for listening and glad you enjoyed!
yeah I didn't really consider the story as something worth focusing on but after seeing the effort others put in it definitely felt it would have been worthwhile!
Even before reading your description, I was immediately brought to an underwater world!
You did a good job in keeping everything cohesive. Every song sounds like they were written for the sole purpose of conveying what the game is about, which is really important for game music.
In terms of critique, your music seemed to peak with crackling sounds a few times, so controlling your volumes will be important for future projects.
My personal favorite was Dancing with the Fish Spirits! Really enjoyed the boingy bubble sounds and the textures you used to make the song feel more alive! Great job!
thank you v much for listening and especially thank you for the feedback! will definitely pay attention to that in future.
glad you enjoyed :)
I liked this one straight away from the first three chords of the first track - I love those lush harmonies, the atmosphere, the sound effects, your choice of instruments, and the general aesthetic. I'm a big fan! Awesome job!
thank you so much!
Drifting To Sleep: Chrono Trigger clock! Love the progression! Always love a touch of Dorian.
Dreams Of Water: This track reminds me of the Baba is You OST. Great synths and pads.
Dancing With The Fish Spirits: Bubbly! I love the setting described, and I think it matches it well.
Mystery: Minimal and bubbly. Love the subtle pads.
Great work! You nailed the water vibe perfectly.
thank you v much :)
The way you incorporated sound design elements like the clock and bubbles is unmatched so far in this jam for me. These are some really fantastic tracks, and the mixing/mastering is very well done.
Awesome work my friend!
thank you so much!!
The third track was my favorite one because it was the most peppy of them and I like peppy songs
thank you :)
THIS IS SOME DELICIOUS SOUND DESIGN. Tracks 1, 2, and 4 were awesome ambient tracks, the instruments you picked represented an underwater vibe perfectly.
...but we gotta talk about that heat in Dancing With The Fish Spirits though-
tysm!!
first of all the story is very interesting and i'd love to play a game like that, i can clearly hear those inspirations in your tracks :)
drifting to sleep is a very nice calm track, the instruments are great, it makes me feel just like you described it, really reminds me of chrono trigger in a way. and as the track goes on more effects are being played changing from the clock ticking to the sea waves and bubble sound effects. the sound design is on top, great job!
dreams of water really gives that underwater vibes, with fishes and other stuff around. synth work is great there, the structure is very interesting as well, i like the panning rhodes(?) and how full the mix sounds while keeping it simple and some of the effects from the previous track being played here as well trying to keep the style same but at the same time being different and so original. it sure has that adventure-exploring feel to it. again, great job
dancing with the fish spirits is a very interesting track, being so cheerful and at the same time mysterious (cuz those are fishes and theyre ghosts?), i like the mix of electronic, ambient and orchestra bits in it.
mystery also has a nice sound design, sounds mysterious, would definitely fit for some puzzle mini game or something, or also exploring a hidden location in the game.
overall i can't point out which one was my favorite but i can clearly say that the whole ost is my favorite one, it fits so well to the concept, the sound design is amazing as well, great job!
thank you so much for such a detailed write up!
the clock ticking in the first track is actually the same one from CT, I just re-pitched it to give it more of a "tick-tock" feel than it has in the original track.
i'm really happy to hear you liked everything so much! :)
Ahem... DEATH TO THE HARKONNENS!
Drifting To Sleep is A good atmosphere of passing time... The ticking of the clock is an interesting idea
Dreams Of Water - heh... It's time for an underwater ambient! Juhu! (It looks like a terrarium in some places, lol)
Dancing With The High Spirits - Hi, it's fun, mysterious and playful! (I love that sound of bursting bubbles)
Mystery - MORE WATER EFFECTS! I love it! It has a rather mysterious sound and at the same time... calms you down)
You have a good job with the effects of creating an appropriate jam theme atmosphere. Cool soundtrack! Thanks!
ahhh you're one of the few whose known where I took my name from!
thank you v much for the track by track feedback :)
Great sound design and gradual evolution in these ambient tracks. You are also really good at controlling foreground and background layering. Very cool and unique soundtrack!
thank you!!
The ticking clock , the waves, bubbles, the bell like instruments to give the impression of a musical box; great sound selection of sounds to tell the story you were going for. The transition between being awake and asleep in Drifting To Sleep was great, slowly the clock gets softer and the waves wash over signalling the start of the dream stage. The use of bubbles as a kick drum was pretty cute in Dancing With The Fish, it added to the playful vibe of the track. Overall a very patient and well thought out soundtrack with excellent sound design to add to the immersion.
thank you v much! :)
Nailed the underwater vibes. Both the actual instruments as well as the sound effects in the background all really represent the underwater setting well and make the soundtrack really immersive. I especially liked the delay effects in "Dreams of Water" and the bubbly sounding percussion used in "Dancing With the Fish Spirits."
thank you :)
this ost is such a vibe! definitely reminds me water and the sea, so i'd say you achieved your goal. love how atmospheric this soundtrack is, with some parts even reminding me of terraria. awesome stuff right here.
tyvm!
Love the way you played with watery elements in a very distinct way! and differently on each track.
Nice sound design on them as well.
Nice ambient and calming work.
Congratulations.
thank you! :)
Beautiful use of the EP and pads on the first track. The melody is so calming. The second track is chaotic yet peaceful and conveys that this is a dream about water perfectly. The third track is so creative and again, would be what I envision water sounding like. The last track also has really fun percussion almost sounding like you sampled a bubble popping which is genius if that's the case. Really well put together and cohesive project!
thank you v much, glad you enjoyed! :)
I liked it. I can definitely hear the inspirations you mentioned, and I think the best is Dancing With The Fish Spirits. The smaller sounds are all a very good touch, but there's a few sounds here and there that might have benefited from some tweaking, perhaps with a little more release.
Thank you and thank you v much for the feedback!
Any particular ones you can remember?
Love the minimal, happy instrumentation. Less is more in this case. Great job!
thank you! :)
Blend of sound design and music is elegant and super controlled. I really liked your submission, easy rating for me!
thank you v much!
this nailed the underwater aspect! i could fall asleep to this super well! great job!
thank youuu :)
Perfect Immersion, really fantastic soundwork here.
Thank you v much!!
