Description
Genre: Retro-ish?

Kind of game: I imagined it as a shmup with story & exploration.

ENDOBLUE: Title theme
Same Old House: Theme of Indigo's boring, empty house
An Odd Town: Theme of a town in ENDOBLUE that Indigo finds strangely familiar
Twixt The Coral Trees: Stage theme
Eclectic Enemy: Boss theme
Blackfin: Villain theme
Determination: Determination/battle theme

How did I compose: By winging it (and not sleeping).

DAW: FL Studio

Message from the artist
This is the first time I've done something like this. It was stressful, but fun. I really just wanted to try my best to make something genuinely good for this. I think I might have succeeded? Maybe?

Theme

Inside my world
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The game takes place "inside Indigo's world". The picture theme was used as a starting point for the vibe and setting.

Heh... it was very stylish with good use of old soundfonts! An interesting and varied soundtrack in the style of old games... cool!

Twist The Coral Tree, Determination and Eclectic Enemy are my favorites) I love the combination of instruments and their dynamics

Thanks)

An absolute bop all the way through!

Great job!

Pretty nice album overall, like the mix of chiptune and jazz.  In An Odd Town, there is some melody that does not quite work well with the chords, we can said that all notes in jazz is good and experimental, but I would stick my end on this, I think you can look and change some minor stuff. Some track like Determination I feel like the drum kick is on my right ear, you can probably look into the mix for that. Other than that is an amazing album great stuff !

Eclectic Enemy is really catchy, and surprisingly didn't feel too repetitive to me. Really nice choice in soundfonts too, haven't heard those used too often yet this jam.

Endoblue - Right off the bat it's incredibly reminiscent of sound-fonts used in the ps1 - ps2 eras. You are one of the few artist's I've listened to for this jam that have managed to use "cheaper" sounds without it sounding amateur. It sounds more deliberate, or maybe you just know how to work with what you've got, but I admire it

Same Old House - works well enough as a simple house theme, but doesn't grab me. Could be catchier. It also does not fit within the rest of the soundtrack.

An Odd Town - The chord choices on this one are odd, not a big fan of how low they are. but I like it besides that. It sorta reminds me of snowden from undertale.

Twixt The Coral - Love this one. Incredibly catchy. The percussion could be louder and have a nicer impact, but other than that it's really good. Sounds like a dungeon theme in an RPG, and is very catchy !

Eclectic Enemy - always a sucker for the slapbass soundfonts used in old games, you nailed the sound of bossfights from old snes games like megaman X and SMT1 and 2.

Blackfin - Catchy, simple, but very fun. Sounds like a quirky, semi evil semi dumb villain.

Determination - The soundfont use throughout the whole ost is amazing, and it works well here too. Love the energetic sound

Overall Really enjoyed it! I do think the mixing could be better, as well as a mix of more modern production techniques. but the general sound is very solid and very retro

I'm glad the usage of soundfonts worked out! Honestly, I do own professional plug-ins, but I've been making music with retro soundfonts for years, and it's probably what I'm most comfortable with. So, I thought it was the best choice for this undertaking. Plus, soundfonts are just vibey to me.

I appreciate the mix of genuine compliments with criticism. All of your criticisms are things that I more or less thought of when I took a step back, so I think that's a good sign? There are definitely some things I would have changed had I had more time.

I also know mixing is definitely not one of my strong points currently. It's definitely something I need to work on soon. I actually experimented more with EQs on this project than I normally am used to.

Really cool themes and composition, I really like the use of soundfont-like libraries which gives a really video game vibe to the entire album. Really enjoyed the long portamento leads and just the sound design in general.

However though, the tracks on youtube all have a slight distortion on the high end, sounds like something cause by low sample rate. wonder if that is intentional or not for the experience?

overall, awesome cool touhou vibes and banger battle music.

Thank you! The distortion could be a sample rate issue. I won't lie and say I wasn't rushing to get everything exported, haha

Very good roster of some interesting ideas. All very intriguing and with an interesting builtup and evolvement. Your choice of sounds is quite interesting and nails the retro vibe with a modern polished touch.

Day 2 Of Rating Submissions With Not a Lot Of Ratings to Hopefully Get Some In Return

Fun little touhou-esque soundtrack, full of the typical quirks that come with the no budget approach these ZUN-core often have. I enjoy the cheese slatheres saxophoens, often in a pleasant conrtast to other, more high fidelity samples. This is a type of certain terminally online kind orf nostalgia that you can´t get everywhere. Nailed the concept and very functional as actual game music. Two thumbs up.
