Description
Synthpop, synthwave, 80's
This is my first attempt entering a competition.

I got challenged by a friend of mine so I spend the afternoon composing a short track.

Although I know it's not an easy listen, because of the odd time signature of 7/8, but I'm a stubborn a**hole and the odd time signature gave me an extra challenge... Actually it evolves into a 4/4 80's style song after a minute or so, so please give it a shot.

Thanks for listening!

How does it fit the theme?
Well, there's lots of synths...

7/8 my beloved

Submitted

I really like the uneasy 7/8 time signature moving into the 4/4 80's style, super cool to hear the unease go into the hopeful/optimistic 80's sound. Great track!

Love the opening. Love how it syncopates with that kick drum. Lovely strings creeping in. Love that little synth too. Ah lovely, more sounds coming in. Love the ones that sound like they're coming from behind me on the right. Really nice mix too. Very pleasant on the ears and easy to listen to.

The odd time signature fits super well the uneasy cyberpunk atmosphere you developed here! Very clean mix on your percussions and nice entry overall!

Cool time signatures always grab my attention. Love this beat. Really has the cyberpunk feel. And then the brief jump into 4/4 from an odd time signature really made the 4/4 part feel extra driving. This track is incredibly cool, nice work.

Nice Synths and beats ^_^.

Thnx!

I definitely enjoyed the funky time signature, while it lasted!

It's a short trip, I know...

chiming in to say the 7/8 really fits and sounds great!

Developer

Thankyou!

This is cooler than 7/8. It's like alternating 8 beat and 6 beat phrases. So 14/8?? It makes every other downbeat get the jump on you which pulls the music forward. Hard not to have fun with that.

I challenge you to join the longer jam next month ;)

Developer

Yeah, don't know. Your probably right,14/7 fits better, but didn't wanna complicate things.  Depends on the topic, but I might take you up on that challenge. Cheers.

Welp, you've already won me over with the use of an odd time signature and on top of that, the drum beat and the textures are very well chosen. I think I would have personally liked a few more melodic parts, but I think it works very well as an atmospheric piece.

Developer

Thanks!

Nice try for a first time! Your 7/8 were cool to listen ^^

Chuckled at the “Well, there’s lots of synths…”. I agree, that is as cyberpunk as it gets! :D

Also, the first track i’ve heard on this competition with an odd meter, which is cool!

A nice sonic palette and a good mix!

Glad you liked it!

Many songs and scores use 7/8 and are good, your OST is as well great!

Developer

Thanks!

Using 7/8 is a good fit, and it gives the track a bit of extra flair!

Thnx!

I love the 7/8 beat. Very unusual. Keeps me on my toes. Nicely done!

Developer

Thankyou!

I actually really enjoyed the 7/8 time signature! One of my main pieces of feedback is that it feels a little repetitive and the bass line could do with some variation or a B section, but I still enjoyed it!

Developer

Being an Underworld fan I love slow build ups through repetitiveness.

I figured considering the short lenght, chances on being repetitive were zero to none. Guess I figured wrong...

Thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it.
