Reminds me of the flash games I would spend hours perfecting as a kid - that is to say, it's mechanically fantastic and the level design is top-notch! I think it could even pull off some effectively scary vibes with a bit more darkness and some imposing enemy designs!

I hope you add more levels after the jam is over though - great work :)

Developer(+1)

I don't really have ideas for more levels 😅 but it was really fun to make

Ah, that's a shame - if I knew anything about Godot I'd be willing to make some for ya, but the set you made were great fun at least 😄

Developer

thanks!

The graphics here are beyond impressive. I love the slow-moving clouds and the use of dithering, and the particle effects work extremely well. The sparse soundtrack really adds to the tension.

Honestly, you could tell me that this is actually a lost commercial release from somewhere in the DOS era, and I'd probably believe you. (At least if it was longer, hah.)

Developer

thank you!

Cool game ! The overall visuals looks neat. Liked the effect used for the shooting.

Didn't quiet understood what the breen zones where for. it didn't seem to make any difference when I was standing in it or not.

Developer

yea the trees could've been a bit clearer in hindsight

I really enjoyed playing your games. Gameplay wise this is one the top games in this jam for me. The graphics are simple but work well. Together with the great sound design (I love the music!) the created atmosphere fits the game perfect.

It would be great, if you continue the work on this game and make more levels.

Developer

thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it

Really neat graphics! I included it in my Palette Jam 2 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Hard to find something that hasn't been said already, but I just wanted to say the dithering effect for the fog is awesome!

Developer

Thanks! I love shaders so this was a fun exercise

The graphics leave much to be desired but they are tolerable. I could understand most of them (not sure what green mist is for since enemy would shoot me even when I'm standing there).

About gameplay, I can see breaking pots as the theme but to me it's either me breaking from the tension of being chased or breaking free of the enemies chase :D.

I completed the game despite being chased to the end. It was fun :).

Developer

yea I hear a lot about the trees not being super clear 😅

So this is kind of like playing Zelda but with guns, right? Just kidding. xD

The shaders and AI are really good. I love how an AI that hears only one sound searches every room until it finds me. It's quite cool how the differing sound radii let me divert the bots so they look away from where I want to run. And despite its simplicity, I believe I understand all of the visuals. 5 star technical implementation; this is the only game in the jam I've played so far that I don't know how to make myself.

Honestly, the biggest problem with this game is its cover graphic! You don't have a lot of ratings at time of writing and I believe that's because at a glance your game looks like one of those low-effort newbie projects so people aren't clicking. (No offense to someone with little time and experience, of course - I was there once too!) Your technology is on the impressive side and you guys are selling yourselves waaaay short. At the very least replace your cover graphic with one of your screenshots.

EDIT: Also, if you haven't already, could you please rate my team's game? I'd much appreciate it.

A well made stealth(?) shooter with a unique aesthetic and some nice ambiance.

PROS:

  • The visuals really help each element of the gameplay read properly (bullets look cool with trails, but you the actual bullet always reads, vision cones make AI interactions really obvious,  audio rings around events make it apparent that's going to matter, etc.).
  • The music did a lot to create a mysterious atmosphere and set the tone for a stealth action game well.
  • The use of masking on the dither to create interesting backgrounds gave the levels some nice flavor.

CRITIQUES:

  • I don't honestly know how the green blob areas affect gameplay. I suspect they do, but it didn't jump out at me as much as a lot of other game elements so I'm left wondering there.
  • Early on I'm told that I should be more stealthy because it increases my score, but some levels require me to kill a guard to get through a door. Feels like you should either give players a non-lethal option to finish the level for the sake of that score OR have another type of scoring system where they fall on the lethal VS pacifist solutions.
  • I managed to get a guard to shotgun several of the pots on a couple levels. Possibly a nice reward for being clever as a player, but felt like the game should force me to do the actual destruction and that pots should be immune to the gun fire of the AI.
Developer

the green blobs were meant to be trees, might not have been as clear as they could've been

and you can do all levels 100% hidden, you can distract guards by shooting things around them

and yea, guards destroying the pots maybe shouldn't have been a feature, but oh well, you live and learn

SO MUCH FUN ! Thank you for this game, the feedbacks are really nice with the little wave to indicate sounds and everything, and the music when you are spotted is very intimidating, I got real scared the first time an ennemy speeded toward me xD it was really fun great job !

Developer

I'm glad to hear you had fun! I'm really happy with the visual feedback and music as well

The game is really good! Its really fun to play and everything compliments each other nicely. Some of the sound effects(such as the pot breaking) though are way too loud compared to everything else. Other than that I had a great time playing it

Developer

getting the volume of sounds right has never been my strong suit 😅

glad to hear the rest was good tho
