- The movement is smooth and the abilities function quite well. The tutorial stage was a little unclear when it said to jump to get an advantage because I didn't get the text to try grappling until I just started testing out if I could and finally latched onto the grapple point. These points could use some better visibility. Everything was running smoothly until I got to the big shadow ball/boss. The game froze for a few seconds when it spawned, and then when I got enveloped by the ball it got stuck on me and then the game ultimately froze for good. I'm not sure how that encounter was supposed to work because of that. Overall, I think you have a cool start to a Metroidvania. I was intrigued by the story and would like to see what the story is about. Good job!

Blue Rust Memoria is a 2D pixel art game that involves the main character navigating her way through a forest and lab setting where inside she finds a unique looking lantern. The player must pick up the lantern to navigate through the mysterious depths of the lab and fend off aggressive Shades. As the character progresses, she is confronted by memories of her past that have taken the form of ethereal shadows. Use the lantern to ward off and evade the Shades and escape the lab you are beginning to remember. After dashing and grappling your way through the world, defend yourself against the amalgamation of your trauma as you discover the way back into the forest.

Some devices, such as mine, cannot run your game without SharedArrayBuffer turned on.
This can be found in the game's edit page at the bottom.
Yup! SharedArrayBuffer is enabled already, thank you for checking!
are you using the Game Jams Random Submission feature? for some reason that error shows up for all Godot web games whether or not SharedArrayBuffer is enabled when using it. Opening the game page in a new tab will solve the problem.
Good point @WildWorkshop207! I've heard similar feedback for other Godot Submissions, playing from Random Submission leads to issues with the play, but direct from page works!
Movement and gameplay feel great! I like the grapple and ledge grab. Both feel good to use. Lighting looks really good as well.
Thank You!
Hello. Fun game.
I found lantern being a bit frustrating when trying to grapple at things.
Shadows were very helpful: you can ride them to reach places. :D I suppose that was not intended.
I jumped into game blindly and it was a bit hard to tell what it wants from me. It took awhile to understand that I have a grapple not weapon. I think a hint: Where you need to JUMP to reach higher place to have better view, is a bit misleading as you seem to get up there with grapple.
Also I got stuck under this monstrosity and could not advance further had to start over.
And it is hard to tell where you can stand or no before trying. You can stand on the right leaves but not the left while they look the same.
Great feedback! We'll definitely make sure to be more explicit in our level layout and design to help guide the player towards a more natural understanding of the grapple mechanic and clean up some of the initial platforms in the forest area!
The lantern mechanic is intentionally set to drop when you grapple to set up a more nuanced decision by the player of when they need to leave the safety of the lantern to reach a switch or puzzle, but I agree our presentation of that choice was left a bit unclear, we will also work to make that more explicit in future iterations!
Thanks for taking the time to play and we hope you enjoyed the current release!
Cool little game, the movement and dash felt really good to use. The grapple was cool too though a little bit buggier than the other mechanics, I had an occasion where the shadows blocked me while grappling and they had me stuck in the grappling animation for a full 20 seconds haha. I also really liked the effect used to dissipate the visions of yourself, it felt very ghostly.
Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback
It took me a little while to understand the gameplay and the hooks werent super visible for me but once I did all was pretty straightforward. I still did a have minor struggling identifying what is "standable" and where would I fall down.
All in all the gameplay is interesting and maybe even unique, I liked the idea and implementation. Dash effect, pixel art and sfx were amazing. Music fits perfectly. Great job on the game, its really great!
There is a bug where your hook can stuck and you will be stuck for ever.
Thanks for playing and for your feed back. We do know about the bug.
Nice art and polished mechanics.
Maybe shadows can be a bit brighter? It's a little bit hard to see at the start, however it does convey darkens of the forest)
Yeah I think that was some weird compression issue when building the game for the web. Thanks for your feedback
This game is fantastic! The animations and mechanics are very well put together. The grappling hook is tricky but fun once I got the hang of it. Well done!
Thanks for playing
very cool mechanics, love the grappling hook and the slow motion when you are shooting it, also rly dig the controls with the crosshair, looks great and the music is really nice too, congratulations!
We're glad you enjoyed it!
Super cool game! Love the art, the gameplay and the music! <3
Thank you for your words! Incredible team to work with all around, we're so lucky!
The game plays really well. I enjoyed the grappling hook and the dash being well polished. I did get pushed through a door by the shadow creatures and wasn't able to continue but, overall I had fun playing and hope to see more!
Thank you! Those pesky shadows stop at nothing to derail your progress, including sending you off into the abyss ha.
It was very hard to navigate before picking up the lantern, and every time I tried to platform after picking up the lantern it dropped the lantern with the same button that is used to grapple, which made the platforming become much harder. Other than that, game looks great and sounds are great, plays well and controls are super intuitive. Good job!
Thanks for the feedback
Thanks for the feedback! The lantern drop when trying to grapple is an intentional mechanic to force the user to make a choice between the safety of the light, and being able to have that increased agility the grapple provides. The platforming puzzles that utilized that choice could have more exaggerated in the design, and that feedback will for sure be incorporated! Cheers!
The game looks cool, I think the artist did a very good job! I just don't know what I'm supposed to do after I pickup the light, if I go back to the right the game just turns completely black (I think it's a bug?) and if I go up I can't bring the light with me...
It takes a minute for some reason, just wait. or try playing not in fullscreen and see if that fixes it.
yeah you're right it takes a while, I guess it's because of the shadow effect, because also when the monstrosity spawned it did the same thing
Yeah so apparently in Godot there is a box you have to check to make it play smoothly on the web and we didn't. LOL
It plays fine for on a downloaded version, but we'll post that after the jam and a few bug fixes.
