Super fun idea!! :D playing this game was also satisfying, i maybe would have added keyboard options with the mouse ones for lap top users, otherwise super fun idea and chill music

Developer

Thanks you so much! While you can change controls, I think you definitely have a point here. Having some sort of backup keyboard controls as default is probably a great thing to do, so thanks for bringing that up, really appreciate it!

The concept of this game is really fun! For me, I didn't have a mouse so I was playing on my laptop mousepad and that didn't work that well with when you had to press both right and left at the same time, but I know that's my computers fault, that would propably not happend if I used a real mouse. But this was really enjoyable and I like the whimsical pixel art a lot!

Developer

Thank you for playing Hot Dog Hero!

Oh, I guess it's definitely not suited for mousepad controls haha. However, you can remap the controls to e.g. buttons on your keyboard if you want, so you can still play on your laptop if you want to. Thanks :)

Fun 2-key rhythm game. Sync is very accurate and the hitsounds add to the experience. Only issue I had was a one-off incident where I had a song (Welcome To The Club) that did not show its results screen, but any other time I played it this issue didn’t happen. One really minor nitpick is that the ketchup/mustard receptors ingame are flipped compared to their binding options, initially causing me to bind my keys in a way (F and J) that felt “reversed” to me.

Developer

Hi, Thanks for you feedback!

I experienced the bug where the results were not shown a few times myself, I will try to fix it after the jam rating period is over! It happens less often when using the downloaded version instead of the WebGL version, but am not quite sure. And the flipped settings are such a valid point you bring up, I didn't even think about that, but you are so right! I will definitely fix this. Thanks again!!

I watched the game on the Simpathey stream and she made some good points about the controls. It's good that you can re-map buttons but I ended up turning my mouse 90 degrees to get used to the position of the condiment bottles.

A possible solution would be to move the bottles side by side, as you can only squirt one sauce at the time it's possible to have everything on one track like this:

Developer(+1)

Hi! Great to see another one from Simpathey stream, I also saw her playing your game haha. The control mapping of rhythm games that go from right to left can be really tricky. For my personal high score runs I ended up using 'W' and 'Arrow down', so I can use both hands and still have a physical upper and lower position of the buttons, but I though for the default controls that probably wouldn't be a good idea. I chose the mouse buttons because Muse Dash (similar gameplay, also rhythm game that goes from right to left) has the same controls.

Thanks for you suggestion about the bottle position. It might really be worth a try. I am not sure about having all notes on one track though, since then you wouldn't be able to require the player to press both notes at the same time, and it would make the game inaccessible to the color-blind community. But maybe having two tracks, but placing the bottles on top is the best solution? I definitely have to think about that, thanks so much for your feedback and also taking time to include an example image!

I wanted to play this one since I saw the cover art for it. The visuals are great. Honestly, I would mess up the beat just because I enjoyed the game feel of squeezing the ketchup/mustard bottles. I think your window of hitting the beat is fair to the player. Overall, just a really well done and polished submission. Super impressive that you solo developed this. Congrats on a terrific jam entry!!!

Wow, thanks a lot for your comment! Glad to know you enjoyed the game! :D

this is an amazing game its so much fun and that you are only one guy in the team is amazing

great job(please check my game too)

Developer

Thank you for your comment, I am glad you had fun with the game! :D

This was really great! One of my favourites! The only thing that I feel like the game needs is a punishment for "wasting" mustard / ketchup. So if you press the button although you shouldn't you receive some kind of punishment, but other than that: Top notch

Developer

Hi! I am glad you liked it. Thanks for the feedback, you got a valid point there, maybe losing your combo streak would be an option? Or simply deducting a few points... I will have to think about that some more, but thanks for bringing this to my attention (and for playing the game!)

OMG the kilometer long hotdog xD
that was a ton of fun, Trial of Spikes was definitelly my favourite (HS of 257k *flex flex*)
ridiculous idea, really neatly executed. The sauce is well synced up to the tracks, the little or huge hot dogs are hilarous to look at. The controls are intuitive and quick to get a hang of. You even managed to get a really in-depth settings menu. Within a jam, solo. Really impressive stuff. Critism-wise, the last 2 levels (well the last one especially) were very challanging. understandably - it's the last, hardest, toughest one. However it's at the point where it feels more like button-mashing, and the rhythm is a bit lost. Maybe by giving the notes a bit more breathing room, or having a few easier patterns thrown in there, it would be a less stressful inducing experience (it just feels like it goes at 100% intensity from start to finish). Still, the effects of the sauces and are really clean, the music is nice and funky and...
I still can't get over the tiniest hotdogs being super super tiny, and the longest ones being multiple meters long xD

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind comment! Now I need to try to get a better highscore for Trial of Spikes haha (if you want to, there's a section in our Discord server to post your highscores to). Glad you like hot dogs no matter if they are tiny or long. I think I have to agree with you about the last 2 levels, the difficulty spike is a real problem. Thanks again for taking time to give some feedback, really brightened up my day! :)

Great game! I love the Music!

Developer

Thank you! 😎 (I didn't compose the music, but am very glad you like the selection of songs)

Excellent presentation and quite fun to play. Moving forward I would implement an option to calibrate latency, as it didn't feel 100% in sync with the music. Great job otherwise!

Developer

Thank you! Appreciate the feedback! Just to clarify, do you mean a way to set input delay more intuitively (e.g. by tapping to a constant rhythm) or an option to adjust some sort of delay between audio and visuals?

Submitted(+1)

As in be able to shift the music relatively to the game by some amount of milliseconds, with a slider or something. (tapping also seems like a neat solution! though I could see it being hard to implement)

Developer

Alright, I will look into it! I just need to find out if I am only allowed to update the game once the rating period is over.
Thanks again for taking time to give concrete and valid feedback!

Great game, I think the level where the music is soft it is a little hard to time the hits. I think where you have to hold and let up and hold again it is important to have a bigger gap. I love the art and theme and style! The controls tripped me up sometimes but I think that is just my brain.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing the game on stream! Yeah, the last 2 levels are kind of hard to hit, I agree. You can remap controls in the settings if you want to, I couldn't think of any better default mapping though. Thanks for the feedback! :)
