Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous.

  • The concept of fusing rhythm with horror is an immensely entertaining idea, and the concept also shows promise by having some hack and slash elements. Really smooth and well-done for a jam game, and the slowly increasing difficulty made it a genuine challenge! Only bit of feedback is by the time it gets very fast, it’s impossible to recover – a grace period for misses may keep the pace going!

Nice game and cool music (I can feel the VS inspiration from it), although as already mentioned it does not following the beat. As a rhythm gamer that actually trips me up lol

Would be cool to maybe have it synced and with increasing difficulty allowing for two or more arrows on the same "beat". But I also know how hard it can be to make it match, even more so when it runs in a browser but it doesn't seem like the perfect window is too tight.

Since you have enemies coming from the sides why not use those as arrows (similar to Undertale's Undine fight) and place the arrow receptors in the same manner as it is on an actual pad and you have to press the correct arrow when the enemies is on top of it? That would give it more of an unique feel.

"Since you have enemies coming from the sides why not use those as arrows" - Yeah, I think this is the route that I WISH I had taken.  I'm glad someone called this out.  I started by prototyping the arrow movement and patterns and then added the monsters, but if I had a little more time to design the game, I would have went this route and had the monsters be the actual arrows.  And, yeah, the lack of beat matching is a drawback too.  Anyway, I really appreciate that you took the time to write up this great feedback!

Simple but really fun, definetly addictive! Well done. Back to it trying to break my highscore.

Developer

Thanks, mate! I appreciate it!

This is such a fun game!! A really great idea and a super fun challenge. Had a great time trying to beat my previous scores! Well done! πŸ‘πŸŽƒ

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Cool game, the only problem is that the button presses dont' really match up to the beat, but I liked the concept. The story was funny also!

Developer

Agreed.  I didn't have time to try to match the actual beat of the song.  Maybe I'll make a simpler rhythm game that does that.  Thanks for playing!

Hey TheRealMattKain!

This is a really great, solid, and responsive rhythm game! I played through a couple times and just kept trying to outdo myself but I kept messing up right around 2000 when it would speed up and reset the arrows :'(

A couple notes after playing:

  • When the level clears it would be nice if there was a bit more of a gap or small count in. Everything would be fine until the level cleared and then the next arrow I was expecting would disappear and completely throw off the rhythm I had just built up. Not a huge deal, just something I noticed!
  • The only other thing would be to maybe try and sync up the music more with the arrows. At one point they were pretty synced up and then I actually had to take my headphones off (even though I was jamming to the music) just so I wouldn't get thrown off by the mismatch from the sound and what was on screen.

What I liked:

  • The music was awesome! I was grooving along the whole time (right up until I had to take my headphones off lol)
  • The art style is great and everything meshed together extremely well. (I had to stop myself from starting to hum Thriller a couple times though haha)
  • Very solid game with no bugs or real issues (aside from my little nitpicks above). I could definitely see myself coming back to this just trying to beat my high score!

Thanks for this really thorough and thoughtful reply!  I think your feedback is terrific, and I'm adding it to my notes for the next update to the game.  I really appreciate you taking the time to type this all up.  This post made my day!  Happy Halloween!

Super fun spooky twist on rhythm games. Hit detection felt good, as did the difficulty ramp.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I made a video of your game. It's at the beginning part of this video.

Developer(+1)

Cool video!  That's so awesome that you are taking the time to play and share these jam games on YouTube!  Happy Halloween!

I really enjoyed the gameplay, there is a special place in my heart for these type of games, i think its kind of a bummer that i dont really get to look at the cool monster art, while im focusing on those arrows xD

Developer

My girlfriend said the same!  She wanted to look at the dance moves instead of playing! 🀣

Fantastic gameplay, awesome style

Developer

Thanks for playing and posting!  I appreciate it!

I survived for 31 seconds, but it was a fun 31 seconds, I kept trying to press the direction of the nearest monster, that didn't always go the way I thought it would.

Developer

Thanks for playing!  If I had a little more time, I would have made a tutorial.  I'll do that when I make the first update!  Thanks for the feedback!

Got to 2000 points 2nd try. Really good and enjoyable. Felt good getting so many perfects.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a spin!  I appreciate it!

Wow, I absolutely love this! The art and animations are so vibrant, and the rhythm gameplay feels so satisfying and responsive. Great work!

Developer

Many thanks for the kind words!

Great intro sequence (although the text wrap seemed to glitch out sometimes)!

The DDR style gameplay was well done with great aesthetic feedback, with the blood particles being really well done and the pixel assets really having some personality.

Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!  What sort of glitch did you see?  Do you mean where the text starts on one line and then wraps to the next?

Submitted (1 edit)

Yeah, was just a bit jarring to see it snap to the next line.

Developer(+1)

Got it!  I'm going to fix that in the next build.  Thanks for taking the time to report it!  Happy Halloween!

Idk if this is me but the controls are pretty lagging

Developer

Could be the WebGL build.  Seems to lag on some systems.  The downloadable might be better.

Submitted

hm, ok, anyway it's overall pretty sticky

Developer

Silly question, but what do you mean by "sticky"?  I'm hoping to do an update post-jam to fix bugs.  Any feedback is appreciated!

Submitted

sorry, i'm not native english speaker, I meant that this game was nice to play like good mobile game where you play and don't notice how much time has passed

Developer(+1)

Oh, I'm sorry!  My bad.  Thanks for taking the time to play and comment!  I appreciate it!  Happy Halloween!

Fun game to just play repeatedly listening to the great music in it, and trying to survive. Really like the big explosion that happens nice touch.

Submitted

Haha I suck so bad, but the need to get into those fast beats is just immense. Very well done, it's satisfying rhythm game with some comedic undertones :D Small but I definitely could see myself playing it here and there casually. Oh and the music was banging.

Great work ^^

Fun, beautiful and makes me want to try again and again, the sound effects were well crafted.

Thanks for playing and taking the time to comment!

Really fun! very addicting trying to beat your own high score. The sound effects are really nice

Developer

Thanks!  I appreciate the comment and feedback!

Love! Rhythm games are fantastic. I love the theming, the name being a play on words, and the vibe with music. The only issue was that the browser version didn't work well, so I downloaded it. The controls are a bit confusing. The keyboard works to an extent, but I had to use my mouse to get the game to start after the opening cutscene. I would LOVE to see some funky backgrounds and theming change as you get a higher score. Ultimately, it's a groovy idea.

Submitted

Would love to see what you make next or even collab on something though, amazing work!

Developer(+1)

Oh and feel free to reach out of you're looking for a jam partner in the future and need a programmer!

Submitted

Yes! Same here. I'm hoping to do roughly one a month, so if you have any in mind, message me. I'm .moths. on Discord!

Developer(+1)

Great feedback!  I only tested the WebGL build on my computer so it likely has some issues on other systems or browsers.  I'll try to tighten up the controls in a future build too.  Thanks for taking the time to play!!!

Submitted(+1)

It's really fun! I love the aesthetics and the slice sound effect is extremely satisfying. The song is really good as well. It does seem quite hard, but we like it that way. :)

Developer

Thanks so much! I might crank down the difficulty in the future build.  Thanks for the feedback!
