I'm intrigued by the ideas in this game for sure. Love the art, love the aesthetics, and would be very interested in playing a version with a bit more tutorialization. I really love the premise of being a great elder god trying to get the dumb humans to do my bidding. If there's a way to help someone who is going insane, or to purposefully sacrifice them, that would be good. Thank you for uploading and sharing!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! You can totally sacrifice insane cultists! They go on the altar, to not go do dumb human things like snuff out the entire cult. (Or at least that was the plan. Time, the old foe, prevented us from doing it)

Okay yeah my first gut reaction was to put them on the altar, but then it said they went insane anyway. Yeah this game idea has some serious legs, very excited to see where it goes.

We are looking into giving this piece more time when the jam is all done. Thanks for the encouragement!

Same like the others, I am a bit confuses of what to do. I drag the cult leader every elements and click on it. What's next?

Developer

Sorry for the unfinished state leaving so many questions open. Once your first follower has been sent to recruit more (top middle icon), you can drop new cultists on various tasks around the den, some of which are unlocked later - the Necronomicon cannot be written by a caveman but only a high level mage later on, for example. It is meant ot be a scarcity system so don't be disappointed if your entire cult is eaten in the fifth round. Some new follower will turn up eventually.

I don't play many games of this style, so maybe I'm just not used to it, but I was pretty confused on what to do. Seeing as I didn't actually play too much, I'll mainly comment on what I can.

Fantastic art style. Gives me a hand-crafted map feel. Very ominous atmosphere, helped both in part by the art and the sound design. The UX was fairly nice, buttons had highlights, pressing a button made a sound.

Perhaps, if the turn system had some more "fanfair", things would be a little more intuitive? Like if there was text that popped up saying "Turn 2" etc. I think TBS games typically do this.

I'll tell you what I did actually (I think) understand about the game; hopefully that might help you.

  • The various items I could press on for info were locked? I assume they were teasers that I would unlock later and be able to use.
  • My goal is to recruit more followers; to grow stronger?
  • My cult leader is the first follower I have. They can recruit better than subsequent followers I get who can also recruit.
  • Obviously, I'm the monster or demon god or what have you.

Even though I didn't fully understand what was going on (and I think this style of game is a lot harder to communicate to the player than a simple top-down shooter), it's still a very cool submission you've made.

Thanks for the compliments. I realise a game like this profits from much more tutorial, this is what we could manage in the time ;)
You got the basics right: You send out the first follower to recruit more, then send the new guys to do tasks all around the cave that grant different bonuses, like altar offerings being eaten before cultists, monuments being shields when attacked by other Elder Beings, etc.
Yes, locked items likely meant you did not meet the requirements to tackle them. Many cannot be unlocked in the first few rounds because all you can recruit are illiterate cavemen.

Love the vibes, but I was a bit too confused on what to actually do to progress. Tutorial for these kinds of games (even a very light one) is a must imo.

It’s clear you’ve put a lot of love in this and it shows, good job on making it across the finish line :)

Developer

Thanks a  lot. We are still in dev and hope to get the finished-ish version with info boxes, explanations, and instructions out before tomorrow's update deadline.

Developer

We have most of the functionality we want implemented, and the game is now actually playable. If you're up for giving it another go, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Developer

We updated with a lot more info on screen (there is also an overview on the game page). If you'd give it another look, I'd be very interested in hearing what you think of the progress now!

Not a bad game, but I think it need more direct explanation of the things going on, maybe trying to make the player interact to have them see what they are doing is not the best idea, but in my opinion it's an interesting game to play

Developer

Thanks so much! We are in dire need of the grace period for fixing things just like this and they are definitely planned. So... come back later to check again? Please?

Sure I'll do, I liked the game because it is something different from my usual gameplay so I'll come bac

I did get a lot more this time, but I shoud say that sometimes I got lost, I didn't really get how to recruit more followers, but it looks better now in terms of functionality, you should keep the good work

Oh I love management games, but here I was totally beaten. I was left little confused on what to actually do, and like how to gain more followers. Multiple retries when all my followers seemed to be gone and I couldn't do anything anymore lol (Not sure if I was missing it but restart button would be nice)

But the vibes are great. I really like the art design, sometimes it being a little too, well little for my poor eyes, but otherwise it was amazing. Music was nice, fits greatly! Good job on this. ^^

I am happy to hear you found the atmosphere pleasing (if that's the right word for a horror game). There will be more instructions in the next version which we will absolutely at least try to publish in the next two days!

Oh I can see the improvement, much clearer!
I'm still bit stumped, but compared to my first times playing it, I got lot further and felt like I accomplished something at least. But yeah I still feel for future development it could be lot more clearer if a assigned place did anything, or if the effect was purely negative right now, I'm still not quite sure what things did. But this is good improvement, like said, I got actually further and was playing quite a while before my eventual doom. Good job, again :D
