That was intensely upsetting. In a good way. I was filled with a lot of dread and anxiety while playing. The shadow figures were a great monster. One little note: the dialogue at the beginning glitches a bit and loops without audio a few times and then cuts mid sentence as new audio starts, and each bit of dialogue goes away too fast. It would be nice if we had control over when the next line of dialogue played/ appeared. I got about five levels in before the anxiety made me back out. XD Great job and thank you for sharing~
wow 5 levels in you got into a two floors building! :D
I'm glad you like the shadows! When designing it, one of the question I was trying to answer was "how can it be scary but still look human?"
This feedback is nice as well, as little by little I'm getting a good picture of what was exciting vs what was a nuisance ^^
Thank you very much!
Super cool, I really like your style! How many people made this (Just 2)? The level generation is great, like my own game but even more convincing. The flashlight mechanic and ghosts worked very well. I think I did get a level that generated without an exit at one point though. Also the door opening was spotty. I would really like to see this developed more.
Yes, we're only 2 :)
A sound designer and me with programming and art haha When I was designing the levels I thought it would be nicer to go for something that actually resembled a flat than the traditional maze algorithms ^^
The level without exit is a surprise! Would be interested in knowing how did that happen
Cool concept! I think the art style is great, and I really like the way the ghosts look. Although I agree with what others have said about the screen effects being too intense, and maybe the ghost grabbing animation lasting too long. My other issue is that I felt a little bombarded with dialog at first. I think it would help if you made me press a button to continue to the next piece of dialog instead of playing it automatically. Lastly, it seemed like running into the ghosts was unavoidable at times. Anyway, a very cool game with a lot of potential. Good job!
Very unique and pleasing! The atmosphere is great. Well done!
This has some great potential, I'm biased roguelike addict, but I do think the idea holds. And I really liked the graphics, they look good and have a certain tone to them I really enjoy (especially after I remember to use flashlight lol), but the flashing light was just a bit too intense for me to play this properly I fear. I don't know if it was just my end but my gameplay experience was badly hurt by also the fact that the game didn't lock my mouse along with the super low sensitivity on it (couldn't find a setting for it if there was one, hope I didn't miss it), so it was less of a struggle against the ghost than it was me struggling to look around and move. Also, hate to admit it because this is my own skill issue, but the text was way too fast for me lmao.
So I'm a bit sad, this seemed like a fun game to really challenge myself in but due to technical (and visual difficulties) I couldn't really enjoy it properly. But like said, you got graphics really great, the less intense effect were nice way to convey to player what was happening, and additionally the sound design was good, especially in the actual level, the intro sounds felt surreal on the other hand :D So, pardon my long text: Good work on this, I do hope you guys continue honing this further ^^
Hey man it's absolutely not your fault anything that happened ^^
This game is the culmination of a period that I took for myself to study game design and try to apply it.
Many things were new, like making sure game feel was in place and all the art was presentable. Other people also had issues with the flashing lights and it's one of my big learnings of this jam to take it easy on flashing lights (a youtube even recommended to place a warning for flashing lights, that I added later).
The mouse sensitivity was really lack of programming knowledge :/ The way I knew how to do it, it wasn't picking up the mouse sensitivity of the system so I thought it could be a problem, so it's noted for next time. I hope you could at least enjoy the parts you could play!
We got really excited about this game (me and my teammate) and are even thinking about taking all the feedback from the jam and try to make this a commercial product :D
Thank you so much for your honest feedback, and if there's something that you would like to have seen or was missing, please let us know!
Hey that's super though, like no matter what, the important thing is you did something and even got it to work. Also good to hear you've gotten feedback already and learned new things. Like the flashing light is something you can just not realize yourself, and mouse sensitivity is so personal for every person, almost all games have too low sensitivity for me by default lol.
Like I definitely recommend continuing developing always, game jams offer like invaluable feedback and game testers so it's good to make full use of that! So good for you guys, happy to hear you have been taking the feedback in earnest and it has inspired you further.
I liked the game! Very interesting idea for gameplay and very stylish visuals! I also liked the voice acting of the plague doctor's dialogues. I wonder what language it is?
It's jibberish language! When I was discussing about this with my team mate, we tried to go for something like the sims do: it sounds like they're talking but it's just random noises!
Hah, damn, I even thought that maybe this is how Latin sounds... You did a good job of making a fake language :DD
Really awesome concept and art style!
The game is great! The singing horrified me and the style is great! At first I didn't know what to do cuz it was pitch black, but then I saw instructions on the game's page xD.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'll definitely next time try to integrate better the instructions in the game!
