Amazing submission! Seriously, this is so good! Really unique and clever and fun, and the artstyle and color palette are great!
Thank you! That's great to hear!
the game is really fun and I absolutely loved the art style! very well done
Thank you very much!
This is actually super fun concept. Building process was super, while bit hard to initially fully grasp how all the stats will work in, it was just exiting to see the result for whatever twist of nature you created. And the actual battle part was great too. My first playthrough was a travesty, none of my monsters could basically attack or died from one hit, but that is on me for being a bad builder, but it was comedic to realize how cruel an existence for some monsters can be. Second time went better. The only thing I wished was little clearer indicators of how many things you can do in your turn, whose turn its going to be next and things like that, but I'd not say those hindered my experience. After all, I didn't mind just messing about when the graphics and music was so good. So great work here!
Thanks a lot for the review! Agree about giving the game more feedback! We'll take this into account when we polish the game
(this game turned out to be like real life, it's harder for some to win, easier for others heh...)
Quite a unique and engaging experience! The monster composition is a bit rough, but once you see it in practice, it makes some sense. There are some elements here that I really, really love, like the speed-based initiative system, and the small board, but other parts of this are kinda rough, and it's likely a product of the very condensed development period. That monsters can't "flip" to face backwards is one of them. I had one monster who just became useless at a certain point because he was too deep into the map to hit anyone. As well, HP and Dam are significantly more powerful than speed, which results in some strange losses in utility for "fast" monsters. The music jams though, and the sfx all feel appropriate, if a little lacking in diversity. The art style is also great. It'll be sweet to see more parts and levels added to the game in the future, as well as more tracks to the OST and might I suggest unlockable shaders that will totally alter the color pallete? Just a thought. Anyway, I thought this was great! Excited to see what you come up with next!
Thank you very much for such a detailed comment! Unfortunately, the game is not perfect, especially the balance of the game, due to the lack of time. We will definitely polish it soon!
(and thanks for the idea with different shaders :D)
OHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD, I LOVE THIS GAME... ITS SO AWESOME... I LOVE THAT IT ALLOWS ME TO GENERATE MONSTER...
its weird that i love this kind of games even though... ya know... its abit messed up!
but i really love this kind of games...
its TURNBASED, ALLOWS ME TO FUSE MONSTER..
CHEF KISS!
Would play again!
Hehehehehehehe, glad to hear it! Thanks!
Me follow just for the next update xD
its pretty hard to find good Turn base games nowadays :(
Okay, we'll definitely polish the game at least!
And I didn't know it was hard to find turn-based games these days wow
Really enjoyed the visuals of the game as well as the gameplay itself. The core loop is really solid and could be a really fun concept to expand upon. Really liked it.
Thank you very much! We might expand the game but we are very unsure about that at the moment :C
The graphics are excellent and colour scheme reminded me of 1950's comic books. Audio is good. Building monsters was simple and fun. Battling is fun too. Very well made game!
Thanks for the positive review! :D
The presentation for this game is really nice. I really liked the monster building system. Lots of options even to start, and the assembled monsters with there parts were really well made! I did like the semi-chess-esk movement and attack style of the battles, though, I think I encountered a bug where one of my monsters had both a -3 attack and -3 movement and was effectively useless, but when I looked at that monster again in the monster editor, their stats were much higher.
Over all, solid game! Very nicely done! If you’re interested, here’s a link to my stream of the game to terrify you this Halloween season!.
Wow, thank you so much for streaming our game! It's really fun to watch people play our games! :D
All the frog-headed monsters have -3 "damage", but in reality, this is how they represent the healing of allies (ie. it heals for 3 points of an ally, for example). I agree, it's not a very clear solution
But thank you very much! We are glad that you liked the game!
I really like the many different options you have as a player, the idea of creating monsters and let them battle is very well implemented here
Thank you very much! ^^
This is a really good concept which resulted in a unique game - and the aesthetics are perfect for this time of year. While I also had a hard time with the controls at first, it didn't take too long to figure it out. It's very impressive how much you were able to develop in a week.
Thanks! Glad you were able to figure out the controls quickly! :D
Impressive visuals and overall vibe. For me the controls were very frustrating, a lot of times I could not understand what I am looking at. It was hard for me to enjoy this otherwise beautiful game.
Props for doing something so ambitious in a week, but it needs a lot of playtesting. I loved the creature designs and the music, congrats for the team!
Thanks for the feedback!
I agree, this game needs more polishing and testing, which we didn't have time :(
We will definitely polish it soon!
A good concept executed very well! The animation is great and it is impressive that you had so many parts for the time allotted.
Thank you! We tried very hard C:
Really enjoyable! I love strategy games and this one is no exception. Very cool design and gameplay overall.
Thank you! :D
this game is crazy developed for a one week jam. the art itself with animation and the different bodyparts in different positions, I can't even imagine how much work was put into this. congratulations, this is truly an outstanding game from this jam
Thank you very much! We really spent a lot of time and effort in developing this game!
I think the character creation tool is a genius idea and it was fun to see my monstrosities in action! The graphics are also top-notch *clap*
I know it's a game jam game and there's not enough time to polish everything, but if you decide to develop it further, some floating damage text and sound effects for the attacks could enhance the experience! A sound effect and text to tell whose turn it is could also be nice! :)
For me, the music felt a bit too intense for the game's feel, but of course, that comes down to taste.
Overall, great job; you got a lot done in a week!
Thanks for your opinion! We're not sure yet whether we'll develop it further, but we'll definitely polish it, so your feedback is very helpful! ^^
Huge props to the artist(s?) behind this game! The aesthetics are fantastic! I'm a fan of the turn based gameplay and I think it's a really cool idea to Frankenstein together a team of monsters and how that affects their stats, movement and attack options. Really impressed with this game and I love how it captured that spooky cute vibe (a personal favorite aesthetic)
I was a little confused by parts of the UI, which I read in a different comment was one of the last things added, so I understand it's not going to be perfect :) but here's where I got caught up in case you plan on updating things after the jam:
so after I placed all the parts, I wasn't sure if the create button would solidify my creation or create a random monster. And then once it was created and the monster icon was above the create button, I didn't know if I should leave it there or drag it to the bottom. I also wasn't aware I needed 3 monsters until going to the next screen and had to go back, so perhaps prevent the player from leaving the monster creation screen until they have the minimum and ideally make it more clear, such as making the first 3 monster boxes a different color etc.
As for actual gameplay, I think the addition of VFX for hitting enemies would go a long way. I wasn't sure if missing attacks was a thing, so I kept checking enemy health to see if I hit and actually dealt damage. I think what speed does could be clarified a bit, I assume it's initiative but it could be accuracy?
All in all pretty fun experience and I hope your team continues working on this because I see a lot of potential :)
Thank you so much for such a detailed review (and special thanks from the artist haha)!
Your opinions on the UI and gameplay are very helpful! We don't know yet if we'll develop this game, but we'll definitely polish it. So your feedback is very helpful! (and yes, speed is an initiative heh)
So thanks again :D
I was a bit surprised once I launched the game, didn't expect this. Real fun and the aesthetics are incredible.
A small thing: Somehow on the borders of the screen, the grain effect is like a little bit more intense depending on the color is behind. It cause me a little of motion sickness sometimes. No big deal but just a small info since the art is top notch!
Thank you very much!!! We will definitely think about the effect!
Really enjoyed it - a super novel submission and great aesthetics!! (And sound/music!)
Thank you!!! :DDD
Really cool I didn't expect to see a turn based battler on the ScreamJam. I love it, the aesthetics were topnotch and the multiple parts gave so much replayability
Thanks! It's nice to read :D
Really cool, unsettling atmosphere! The mechanics are interesting, though it takes a while to understand them. The instructions were hard to read because of the blur and dark edges.
Thanks for playing and feedback! We will take this into account for the instructions!
