The game is a very clever use of the theme (ignoring the E key ;). It's a compelling little puzzle game.
Recommendations:
- The keys get in the way of the game view. There's plenty of UI space, so that's an easy fix.
- There need to be instructions somewhere. It's not obvious what the blocks do.
- Better colour palette. The game blocks should be a different colour to the background. You've currently got purple everywhere, for everything. Colours should be used to distinguish different elements of your game.
- Better music, it's just a very short and simple loop repeated.
The idea is there, but it does need polishing.
Thanks for playing, and for taking the time to give recommendations. For the theme, it was just meant to be that you can move with two keys at a time, so that's why I allowed other keys such as E and R. I absolutely agree that there should have been instructions, I just ran out of time to better display them in game.
Doing better art and making the music were a bit of a trial run for this game, since I usually work in a team, and don't do those. I think that the art in this one ended up a lot better than it has in previous games where I did the art, and the purple was kind of the theme I was going for, but the background probably should have been different. I'll tackle more variety next time ; ). For the music, I agree that it was a bit short. That was more of a time crunch issue, and a lack of skill in creating long songs. Personally I liked where the keys were since you can hit E if you want to make them disappear, and look at the map, but that wasn't properly explained in game. If I update this post jam, I'll probably either shift them, make them semi-transparent, or add an option to press M which zooms out and views the whole map. Anyways, thanks for your input, and I hope that you were able to have some fun with it!
Fun puzzle game and great interpretation of the theme. I think the difficulty curve was just about right, which is something that is not easy to achieve in a puzzle game, especially one made in 72 hours!
I'm glad restart was an option but it definitely should have been mentioned in-game :) I think little UI popups could have been useful, like a little "press E" popup when you were over the cross squares. A really nice entry overall though, good job!
Thanks for the feedback. I thought after the fact that the difficulty was a bit too sharp, so I'm glad that it worked for you. I absolutely agree that there should have been more prompts. I procrastinated adding it until it was too late though.
Very awesome I really enjoyed. Really had to think in this one. One of the many great puzzles games in this jam, nicely done. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the feedback, and I really happy to hear that you had fun with it!
its a very enjoyable game, the only polish lacking would be a revert move, and the special tiles being more visible
everything else is defintely 5 stars
Thanks for playing, and for your feedback. You can restart with R, but I forgot to include that in game. That's a fair point with the special tiles being hard to spot. Art is not my strong suit, and this game was an improvement over what my games usually look like, but hopefully I'll be able to work more on that next jam!
oh i mean something that lets the player go back to the last step in general
Very cool game! Interesting take on the 2 button theme, and the puzzles were very well crafted. I think the difficulty of the puzzles spiked a little too quickly, but given there's only 8 levels and this was a game jam, I thought you did an excellent job despite it. I found myself really determined to beat the game, and it was nice to see a new mechanic introduced every 1-2 levels it seemed like. I thoroughly enjoyed playing. Really nice job! :D
Thanks so much! I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed playing. I often have trouble balancing difficulty, and the later levels were definitely a bit rushed when I made them, so it's good to hear that you were able to beat them.
The puzzles are very creative, it took a while to understand how to use the crosses. Cool and unique implementation of the 2 button challenge theme.
Thanks for the kind words, and thank you for playing!
It reminded me of Soko but more creative due to the control changes you implemented, nice puzzles
Thanks so much for playing, and for your feedback! I haven't played Soko before, but I've played similar games, and that was the feel I was going for, so I'm glad you recognized it.
Very different and creative approach to the theme, nice job.
Thanks for playing!
Loved the unique mechanics to switch between controls. Well polished game! great work.
I'm glad to hear that you liked it. Thanks for playing, and your comments!
AMAZING GAME! It took me a bit to understand how it works (you should definitely put the instructions on the game itself, specially that R is to restart) but once I did I couldn't put it down. Every level started with me scratching my head thinking there was no possible way to solve it but when I found the solution it felt soooo good!! Also, very original interpretation of the theme of the jam.
Awesome game, my favourite of the jam thus far :)
Thanks so much! I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed it. Also, very good point about the controls, I'll probably update it to include that after the jam.
