Oh, that was awesome! I really jumped when it started in the kitchen! I loved the atmosphere and design, even though I'm not usually into 2D. I actually enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish the game because I keep getting killed in the garden before I even see the enemy :( I tried a few times, but that second unknown foe just doesn't give me a chance
Great game! The visuals, audio, and gameplay all work together to make for an intense and creepy experience. I've only seen the trust ending, so you may be doing something like this already, but I think it would be cool to explore more psychological horror elements where the things you see/experience may or may not be real, leading to some *unfortunate* consequences. But yeah, really well polished and loved the experience!
A couple minor things, I think a bit more feedback when you shoot the boss at the end would be helpful to know that you're making progress, because I wasn't really sure if I was doing something or not until it ended. Maybe like an animation or something to show that you hurt it. Also sometimes I'd have to click "E" twice to advance the dialog. But really solid game!
Thanks for playing our game, and thanks for the feedback! We're working on making the boss have better feedback, and giving the player more to do during the fight! We will also look into the dialog issue you faced. Thanks for giving our game a go :D
Great entry! Loved everything about it! For my more immediate detailed thoughts, check the VOD ill post in the themed horror jam discord here in 10-15 minutes!
Just watched your VOD, thanks for the feedback! The suggestions with the dog boss fight are much appreciated. I'm glad you liked our game :) Also, a lot of the story and theme are shown through exploring the house, interacting with the environment and especially finding the other endings! Thanks for playing our game :D
Edit: I also just wanted to thank you for going through each persons game and giving a live review. I respect the effort you're putting in to give feedback and support to all the people in this jam! The videos really help in seeing a players viewpoint. As someone who already knows everything that supposed to happen in the game, it can be easy for devs to overlook things!
I did miss the narrative, and i felt really insane going through that looping session! Solid entry, top 5 forsho!
Hi! I would have told you that your story is very great and intriguing and made me question the reality of everything around the girl and who she should trust. Or that your art style is great and your game really gives the horror expirience of being left alone in a house where something has gone horribly wrong.
But instead I want to thank you! Around a month ago I've tried to make a game for a jam in a similar art style with a top-down perspective. I had a lot of trouble implementing many different aspects of it from the text revealing itself at the set speed to my character stepping on walls because of animation being too wide. Ultimately i didn't manage to submit the game and only a couple of my friends played it and i've ditched it for now until I could figure out what I could do with difficult places in it's development. Yesterday I've played your game and unexpectedly found my answers! I've looked at it and got the insight of what I should do! Thank you so much for your great game and for things about development I realized because of you!
Hey! I'm glad to hear you liked our game, and am honored to have inspired answers in development for your future game! I think with the right motivation, you'll be able to create an amazing game, and know there are great resources on YouTube for any kind of problem you may encounter! We faced many challenges, bugs and problems while developing our game, and I'm sure we'll face many more, but even so we were able to make something we are truly proud of. As such, I believe if you also work hard on your game, you'll be able to do great making yours! I'm excited to see what you create!
Hi! I gave your game a try and I loved it! You really nailed the atmosphere for this one! The pixel art and the environment design were sweet! The chase scene with the tentacles was very spooky and I was on my toes trying to juke the guys at the garden. The doggo boss fight was quite intense though and I wasn't able to beat it due to extreme FPS drop on my end (My PC tends to lag on browser based games). But with what I experiences so far, this is a fun and great project! Great job! ^^
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you liked the game. I'm sorry to hear you weren't able to finish the dog boss. There are other hidden endings that don't require you to fight him, if you'd like to try and find those. I may release a downloadable file for the game in the future. Thanks for playing :D
neat game! i liked a lot of the ideas: alluding to the light switch in the brother's diary and the reveal of what it does stuck with me the most. as for feedback, I think the game could do with some extra noise cues for the final boss, i think that'd improve the atmosphere, and also make the death feel less flat.
also, i found that on the final boss its a lot easier if you stay at the bottom of the room, since the tentacle's down hitbox is a lot more forgiving then the up hitbox. dunno if that is a strategy you intended to be in the game. overall i enjoyed it.
Thanks for playing and the feedback! I'm glad to see the hint in the brother's diary worked. I wasn't sure anyone would pay attention to it.
We'll have to look for some more sound effects to add, I'd like to come back to the boss fight anyway and make it more polished and interesting!
So cool, it reminds me of House! Took forever to finally find the third ending, especially since you can only get the kitchen painting during the chase part!
Though, it was a little annoying that once you go in the basement, you can't leave. Other than that, the game is very well made! ๐
Thanks for playing, and great job getting all the endings! I wanted the third ending to be pretty hidden/difficult to find. Also, thanks for the feedback, we are currently making an update to allow players to leave the basement from the ammo room!
Also, there may be something special in the game for beating all the endings ๐
Had a lot of fun finding hidden information and places. Loved some of the animation especially when shotgun used. I've only reached two ends. Plan to play more to find the rest. Really enjoyed playing but glad I started after fixes. Great job!
Hey everyone! Thanks for all the feedback, it really helped a lot!
I put out a new update that should fix a lot of the problems (hitboxes, final boss balancing, enemy lines of sight). I hope you enjoy the new version! And feel free to give more suggestions, it helps a newer game dev so much ๐
Really nice pixel art! The gameplay was also fun, but sometimes it felt a bit unfair with the hitboxes. I really like that you could interact with the environment and that the player would say stuff about it, helped a lot with the worldbuilding! I would love to see more! Good job!
Thanks for playing and the feedback! We just updated the game, fixing the hitboxes! Hopefully it will feel more fair now. I'm also glad you liked the environment interactables, I wasn't sure anyone would actually read them, but I had a lot of fun going around just adding things to interact with ๐
Cool game. I liked the art, it's very good. The gameplay is interesting but there are problems with hitboxes. It is expected that with such a perspective the player's hitbox will be somewhere in the legs, and not all over the body. Because of this, I often got into a trap when I should have passed it. And in the final boss fight, the roots from the ground touched, although they should not have. Also about the boss, at the 3rd stage, too many roots spawn, and a hopeless situation arises when you stand in a place around which the roots and a red circle appears under you, and you just can't leave. In the first stage, there was enough time. Or you need to call the roots according to the pattern (like during the boss attack).
Thank you for reviewing and playing our game! We are currently working on making the final boss, (especially the 3rd phase), better! We are also fixing the hitbox of the player so it'll be in the legs! Thanks for the feedback!
Love the style. Played through the whole thing (finally beating that last boss) just to see ending 1 of 3! Going back, I can't believe I didn't notice all the extra stuff, guess I should have interacted with stuff more...
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked the game :D
I think this is a well made game, although personally at least the horror didn't really hit.
At some point it is closer to "way too hard" than "scary"... The dog boss fight is just plain unfair and that's where I threw the towel lol rather than getting scared if I have to be completely honest it got me irritated.
Yeah, the final boss was pretty bad at first ๐
But I just published a new version that makes the fight more balance and less RNG based. You can also shoot the tentacles that popup to make a path. I also fixed the hitboxes to feel more fair. If you decide to give it another try, feel free to give anymore more feedback about it, it helps a lot!
Also, I was going for more of a psychological horror, so most of the horror comes from the environment/interacting with items/getting the other hidden endings. Still, thank you for the feedback!
Aha I will try it in maybe like 11 hours from now
Ok finally retried it. Definitely far more fair than before. Will try again later for more endings (tho I think I need a hint)
Make sure you read the items/interactables very carefully, especially when other characters write things down!
Ok I finally found the second ending. I heard the third one is very hard though so I think I won't bother XP
Thanks for playing the game again! I'm glad some people were able to find the second ending :) The third ending is a lot more hidden, but we felt like it made it more rewarding to find. Especially for people who read all the dialogue and were able to pick up on the hints. Thanks for sticking around to play, even through all the bugs and rebalances :D
Hey is this a bug? I don't know what triggered it but this is what happened:
Thanks for pointing this out, it is a bug. We will work on fixing this. There was a oversight where you can only get each ending once. Because of this, the item needed for the endings won't respawn ๐
We have a fix that will come with some other updates soon.
In the meantime, avoid going into the basement boss room.
Thanks again for playing and finding all these bugs!
