Great work! I like the mechanic that the more books you carry the slower Koakuma gets. I like that it forces you to wiegh the risk every time you go for another book. The same thing applies for the sprint - do I leave it for when the ghost appears or do I use it immediately to get faster to the bookshelf? The only thing that was hard to gauge was the ghost's hitbox, especially when it's going diagonally. So I just stayed away as much as I could :D The audio is also very spooky, very fun game. :)

Very spoopy! I liked it a lot.

My favourite part about the gameplay is the ghost's movement. It appears and then aims at your position, but doesn't actually chase/home into you. It lends to an interesting strategy: when the ghost appears, stay still, and then run in a different direction from where it aims at you. It's a good way of dodging it while also conserving your stamina.

It took me a while to realise that the pink arrow that appears around Koa actually points to nearby books, mostly because it disappears and reappears pretty often. Maybe making it bigger and/or the same colour as the books would help?

Good job on the game overall! Your team nailed the spookiness.

SCARIE

i am OVER-ENCUMBERED and the ghosts KNOW and STRIKE

i would like maybe a second point of hp but it is nice it is nice

I was surprised by the ghost the first couple times, but as soon as you get used to the ghost, dodging it becomes less of a hassle. There are some intense situations you can be in with the ghost like when I was in a tight hallway and I had to make a quick veer just to narrowly dodge. There are definitely some interesting mechanics in there that could definitely be explored, like the slower walking with books held. It's an interesting tradeoff but I didn't really see it in my playthrough since picking up books 1 by 1 felt easier. I enjoyed the game overall, but I think there's something here that could definitely shine through with some refinements. Also I liked the twist at the end.

A very scary game! The sound scared me!

Overall, I had a lot of fun playing, and I think it would be more fun if other monsters came out later!

This was so cute. I particularly loved the contrast between the visuals and the tone. The chibi Koakuma walking around while eerie ambience and sfx play is just so charming.

I noticed that I think walking diagonally is faster? Might just be in my head, but it's a thing that happens with this kind of movement setup. Diagonal movement ends up faster than just moving left/right or up/down because of math reasons, and you have to do some math to take that into account before applying the movement inputs to the player.

Increasing spawn speed as books were collected was cool. I also really liked the idea of being able to get more books at once at the cost of speed. Though, outside of reducing the time in which you could potentially lose, there isn't technically any reason to get multiple books at once before going to put them in the shelf. Which is to say, most of the time I just got one book at a time. So perhaps an additional motivator, such as a timer, might've been good to make the player feel like they have to engage more with the speed-reduction mechanic. Or maybe more instances of having multiple books in one spot.

Very cute art. It felt a bit unfair when I had to get the last book in a narrow corridor (which killed me), but once you know that the spawn rate increases the more books you turn in, it's not an issue.

It feels like a horror game, so good job.

I like that there are a lot of things that need to be taken into account when collecting the books like the spawn interval changes when Koakuma collects more books or the Koakuma's speed decreased with how many books she has.

The sound effect is also on point. It gives an eerie feeling but also acts as an alarm that something will be coming on.

I streamed the game here around minute 18 in case anyone is interested in watching it.

Great job with the game!

Man, that last 2 books had me 💀

The way that the ghosts' spawn rate increases whenever you collect and place more books on the bookshelf is just great:

  • really makes the player tense and somehow might put misinputs
  • emphasizes the horror/thriller theme of the game

Aside from the Koakuma's sprite, the ending is very adorable too!

Great job in general!

The true horror game that fits Halloween perfectly!

I (personally) think the hitbox is too large because sometimes I die even though I think I will definitely avoid the ghost (That is exactly what made it horror).

Besides, koakuma is very cute! Nice work overall.
