i could only get to rating this pretty late but OMG ITS SUCH A GOOD GAME I LOVE YOUR WRITING STYLE AND THE DEPTH YOU GAVE THESE CHARACTERS EVEN IN SUCH A SHORT GAME!!! GOOD JOB!!!!! WOULD GIVE THIS A MILLION BAJILLION STARS IF I COULD

Developer

AAAA THANK YOU!!!

The narrative pulls you in quickly and leaves you craving for more - I loved the easy story telling and the lore drops that were seamlessly added in ^-^
Overall loved the ambiance, style and story!

Developer

Thank you so much!!

The overall ambiance was really nice! I especially liked the GUI and how we're grasping bit by bit infos about their relationship and how they used to live. Loved all the little details about tea and tea cups too!

Developer

thank you!!! i was trying to make the narrative a bit of a puzzle to avoid dumping too much lore in such a short game! :)

Everything from the GUI to the character design to the music to the background were fitted perfectly for a very cozy and lovely VN experience. Also I wish I could write this good.

Developer

Yayy thank you!! ngl i was dying while trying to write this so this is very encouraging

[ending spoilers] I chose to run away with August, and I don’t regret it one bit. I hope they get to clink their mugs together for many years to come! I also liked how the UI formed a frame for the screen- it added so much charm and personality.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! They surely will have many late night tea-sessions in the future <3 I’ve been wanting to work with a frame-style GUI for a while now so I’m happy I got around to it!

Lovely, short, sweet. The pixel art was really nice to see in an entry!

Developer

thank you!! I had lots of fun trying new things with the pixel art!

I loved the way the GUI was designed in this it was super pretty! I also really enjoyed how the game felt both cozy and melancholic + it's always nice to play something with older characters!

Developer(+1)

thank you so much!! and yes! more old character please!!

What a lovely game. Short yet concise, I got all of the info I needed to know in order to step into this world while also not being overwhelmed with years of lore and relationship knowledge. Amazing aesthetic and dialogue all around, everything felt like it was done perfectly and each element worked with one another to tie this game together.

Developer(+1)

thank youuuu!!! i was struggling a bit with how much lore to put in there cause i wanted some stuff to be up to interpretation while still having the story be pretty clear,,, glad it worked out somehow haha

A great blend of cozy, warm, and fuzzy vibes with sad, cold, middle-aged men--just like their tea. This style of pixel art is super inspiring and I love every piece that went into designing the overlay! The music imo was a perfect choice and just pulled everything together. UvO

Developer

“- just like their tea.” allow me to sob :’))

Thank you so much!! I really tried to find something that was right in the middle of sad and nostalgic for the music ^^

Every single detail in In this life is designed and implemented specifically to get you to want Michael and August to be together, and it’s brilliant. The dialogue is so charming, the sepia tone BGs imply all the nostalgia Michael has for the place, and I can only describe the GUI as “so fuckin’ cozy.” The game’s extremely focused art direction is such a powerful strength. I just wanna sit in it forever.

I also like that I didn’t even have to prompt the game to call me Michael : )

Developer

Waaah thank you so much! Very happy to hear that the art direction worked since I really wanted to get the nostalgic atmosphere right!

Haha omg the game actually reached a real Michael >:) Be aware of vampires!

GODS. This was an experience. I absolutely love the overall feeling of this piece, from visuals, through the song choice, to the plot obviously. There's just something so gripping in the way you write conversations. I really wish I had more to say except for [screams in Polish]. I love the vampire old man yaoi, 13/13, no notes.

Developer

THANK YOU SO MUCH HUHUhuu ;;; I love writing dialogue so im so glad it’s decent! the polish screaming gets your point across don’t worry!

I liked the mood of the game. And I was relieved to get a happy ending. :)

AAAGGHHHHHH *clutches my chest*
OUUUUUGGHH *falls to my knees*

I really enjoyed this story and the good end CG (I won't describe for spoilers sake) waaaaWAAAA it was so cute ;w;
Really love the visuals on this one, especially fond of the little ruffled trim on the UI it's so so cute. The colour pallette is really nicely done and helps incorporate the backgrounds nicely with the hand drawn elements :)

Developer

Thank you AAAAAaa!!!! I’m so glad you liked it, sob! The color palette is by Lizalot on Lospec and is indeed gorgeous! Helped me so much with making everything look cohesive B)

Vampire BL, the pixel art, the PC-98 style GUI, the color scheme...this game feels like it was created in a lab for me LMAO

I loved the aesthetic style and the conflict between neither of them actually wanting to separate but August feeling like he has no other choice. The good ending was really satisfying!

Just as a heads up, there are a couple places in the script with missing or incorrect name tags--lines that show up as narration when it's clear that Michael is saying them out loud ("What were your intentions with me?" and "Some things?"), and one line that has Augustus' name tag but in context seems like it's probably being said by Michael (beginning with "I'm a grown ass man").

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the kind words!! I basically took lots of things I like and smashed them together lol so I’m glad someone else has similar taste B)

Aaaa damnit thank you so much for telling me about the typos! I’ll fix them asap once the jam is over… ;-;
