Cool idea and perfectly on topic! couldn't get more than 380

Well Done!

So I downloaded the game and played it and got random colors, but when I played it here on itch it game me a single color canvas to paint :D Anyway!

I wish the paintings were pixel art of things instead of random shapes and colors though. Otherwise super simple, actually too simple!

Good game, although too easy for me. The music is nice and the intro is nice too :).

Very funny lol :D

Uncollaborative AI would be a great theme for this lol. Loved it! ^-^

Very unique idea, haven't seen a game like this. And one more thing, where is the color black?

Developer

It's less of a colour - more non-existence so if your ai friend paints over all of the background that's less points for you.

Submitted

This is pretty funny lol. The AI never helped me get bonus points so they definitely live up to their name!

Submitted

Love the music ! Good game overall !

My game is too harda and yours is too easy XD. I like that this game is easy to understand but I have a comment about black tiles.

And no, it isn't about inability to make them. Black tiles can even not appear in the original image and even if they appear AI can paint them all. If I had time I would make that less random by setting minimal amount of black tiles in the original image and minimal amount of unpainted empty squares. And with that player would be less frustrated because of black tiles.

Though I liked the idea about collaboration with AI that can mess things up.

I won't reapet small things such as intro each time you reset. Overall, nice little game with potential.

Developer

A minimum amount of empty tiles would be good but I don’t know how I’d do it in my spaghetti code.

Submitted

Nice idea :) there are a few games entered where you play against AI like this and it's proving an interesting concept in simple environments.

Submitted

its kinda impossible sometimes because you can not paint in "gray" / "black"

Developer

I wanted to treat empty tiles as bonuses so I thought making them inconsistent would add some luck and replay ability to the game. The lore reason is that you can’t get them back once you paint over them because they are quite literally empty tiles and your ai companion already painted over them.

Submitted

It felt like losing was not rlly my fault because the ai messed up yk

Submitted

Original idea but I have a few nitpicks:

having no color black is pretty confusing, when I read one of your replies saying  the ai decides the black I though it was kinda unfair

having to listen to the intro every new game is also a bit annoying

at last, this is more personal but I didnt enjoy the music much, it felt way too repetitive

Developer(+1)

I always wanted empty to tiles to be treated as bonuses so that there would be some rng involved however I do agree that the intro does get quite annoying so after the jam is over in may add a skip option. Unfortunately I have zero music skill so I have no way of creating good music.

Needs alot of enhancements in terms of gameplay and diversity/variety of paintings, as it is too much simple and easy to get the high score

I still don't see the AI perfoming when I paint. Don't know if it's due to being on WebGl only.

Still, a solid game!

Developer

The complexity of painting is completely random but has seemed a bit simpler since the import to html. The idea is that the ai painted the canvas you started with to give you a head start so that you should get a few points even if you don’t have enough time t complete your painting.

Submitted

This is so close to being a fun game, it's just wayyyy too easy. 9/10 times the picture to recreate is just a solid color, and then the AI fills in that color so it's an automatic win, and the rest of the time it's extremely simple to recreate the image. Also waiting for the timer to go down takes way too long, there should be a button to submit the painting when it's done.

It would be more fun if there were more complex images that used more than one or two colors, and maybe if the AI kept trying to ruin the picture as you're painting it so you have to fight against it, instead of just filling in one color at the start.

I really love the idea, it just needs to present more of a challenge to the player!

Developer(+1)

Sorry about the lack of painting complexity. It seems to have been dumbed down in the jump to html. The general idea was that the ai just gave you a head start so slower players would still get a few points although the ai can also scam you out of bonus points if you get unlucky.

Submitted

Cool little concept, it has a lot of potential! :)

Unfortunately this state of the game is a bit too easy since there’s a lot of time to get things perfect before the timer ends, always getting the highest score: it would be so cool if there was a series of levels getting harder and harder, with the canvas ever expanding and the timer getting more and more tight. You might also add a button to confirm the painting and passing immediately to the next level: right now having to wait for the timer to end feels like a waste of time, especially with the easiest patterns.

Another thing I will say is that having to listen to the (hilarious) Ai presentation every time you restart the game can quickly get very old, maybe you can disable it from the second time on.

Again, the concept is really good and the game has a lot of potential to be incredibly fun, so keep up the work! ^-^

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll add a dialogue skip button after the jam. I find it quite unfortunate that the randomness of tiles in the paintings became less random after the jump to html because it would have been a lot more interesting than the solid colour screens people seems to get a lot of.

Submitted(+1)

cool idea but i wish there was more content like for example different levels with pictures getting more and more complex or pixels amound increasing

Developer

All of it is completely random so unfortunately you sometimes get lumped with rubbish levels but there can be some real challenges too:

pretty cool

I think my painting was pretty good, though I don't know if this fits the theme.

Submitted(+1)

Are there more levels? (I only got to paint the whole screen in one solid color)

Developer

Every time you press new game it should reset and give you a random painting to recreate. I’m sorry you received a rubbish one on your first try.

Developer

Reloading also helps to get more consistent good ones.
