Lacking in polish, but that's understandable because of the short dev time. The art is definitely the standout aspect, but the writing is also entertaining.
Thanks so much for playing! Some polish should turn up in a post jam release :) until then I'm very glad you found the art and writing to your liking ^_^
Nice game! I loved the art and the story was really cool
A little more indication of being hit / hitting the octopuses would be great, as it was a little tough seeing these things.
Overall, this is a really cool game!
Thanks gamer! I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^
I really liked the art style, those octopuses are cute. It was hard to read the text. The game window kept resizing.
The combat was surprisingly fun, but could use some work definitely. My game window kept resizing whenever I entered a new room, but nothing that can't be fixed.
Hey thanks for playing gamer! I'm glad you had some fun ^_^ I did notice that about the game window, but didn't have time to dig into the cause... All ears if you've ever come across it and have an inkling what might cause it! (I'm suspicious it's in my camera code)
The art is cool. The banter with the machine is kinda fun. The sound is pretty weak though, and so is the gameplay. After a bit I realized I could just aggro the enemies and spam space to kill them. Maybe have the attack collider only be in front so at least your back in vulnerable. One tip that would have made the sound immediately better with very low effort is just having some room tone or looping ambient sound.
Hey thanks for the feedback! Tbh the sound is nowhere near where I'd like it to be, the sound that is there has been very quickly reused from some other projects because I ran out of time to make anything. There was some disappointing triage in the audio space :( I'll add some bits and pieces in for the post-jam. I'm glad you enjoyed the art and characters at least!

What I didn't like:
Thanks so much for the feedback and suggestions! The text is definitely a quick and easy fix, honestly I didn't think to test that part once the code for it was working... Sound effects I didn't really have time for unfortunately but I really appreciate the suggestions ^_^ the up/down animations were just culled for simplicity but I agree they'd pull the quality up. Thanks for playing :D
Very entertaining game! I really liked the art style it reminded me of of Hyper Light Drifter a bit.
The gameplay itself requires some polish but it still works as intended which is great.
The boss fight surprised me a bit but was fun
a good amount of content for a game jam.
Awesome submission!
Thanks so much! I'm stoked that you enjoyed yourself ^_^ Hyper Light Drifter is huge praise, thank you!!!
Great fun :) Fantastic art! I really enjoyed the whole visual atmosphere, and the little heart animations stand out as a very cool little piece of polish I didn't notice at first. And really enjoyed the story/character side, especially after reading the last bit of text.
I agree with a lot of other comments, the two-swing attack idea wasn't totally clear, but I did realise the low swing (or backswing as I interpreted it) had a hitbox - and yup it's faster so optimal strats for killing baddies are stabbing the little fellas' toes with the backwards jab.
Oh and for me the difficulty balance was just right to be casual but not easy. So I guess we've got a goldilocks situation.
Anyway, thanks for a fun little game! 'Twas very cool.
Thanks gamer! <3 I'm so glad my efforts on the visual feel seem to have paid off ^_^ yeah in actual fact I was lazy with the attacking and the whole of the attack frames are a hitbox - so you'll do damage as long as you're attacking (regardless of which part of you hits the enemy). I think visually that just isn't making the most sense since it subverts expectations a little.
But maybe it's also not so bad when standing still? And in that case simply adding a running attack animation might fix things? I'll have to play around with it and get some more feedback :)
I think you're right about the difficulty - it certainly seems to be getting views on both sides! Which would suggest it's either the ideal mid point - or very close to it...
You're most welcome - I'm stoked you had fun ^^
Cool game! I especially like the art and the vending machine dialogues (i ussually like dialogues in games). Only complaint is combat, it feels a bit.. odd. I don't exactly know why.
Great game!
Thanks so much gamer! I'm glad to hit the right notes in an area you tend to enjoy ^_^ It's interesting that the combat seems to be such a talking point because I originally had something quite mechanically different planned but had to simplify it to this. Maybe I'll play around with introducing some other combat elements :)
So glad you had fun!
10/10 beautiful art and love the vending machine. Took me a second go to beat the boss. I did end up turning my back to the enemies to get a more instant hit. If you are looking to add anything to it after the game jam is finished I think some squishy sound effects when attacking/defeating the enemies would be very satisfying :) Great work with it anyway, you should be very proud :)
:O ahh thanks so much <3 people like you enjoying my game make it all worthwhile ^_^ Thanks for taking the time to check it out! I'll definitely be looking to add more sound effects in a post-jam release - I didn't have any time left to look at sound during the jam so the sounds that did make it in were very much thrown together!
Great work, I enjoyed it greatly!
Thanks friend! I'm glad you liked it ^_^
It's a simple game.. Also quite easy. I could just defeat everything by mashing space. It's a cool concept but it could be a little more fleshed out.
'Needs a lower difficulty setting', 'quite easy' - the joys of play testing 😅 You must be on the more experienced end of the spectrum :) thanks for checking it out, gamer! I would love to flesh it out a little more and perfect that balance!
Looks stunning. It would be nice if there was a lower difficulty setting for noobs like myself.
Thanks <3 Sorry about that! Barely had time to balance this difficulty level haha
AWESOME GAME , but i do find the attacking to be annoying and also you could have added a boss health bar, other than that your game is great
Ohh man a health bar for the boss!! Yes! Shows my brain wasn't working at 2am. Post jam release notes updated! Great shout. Thanks so much for playing, so glad you had fun ^_^
AWESOME GAME , but i do find the attacking to be annoying and also you could have added a boss health bar, other than that your game is great
Thanks x2 ^_^
Game looks nice, I enjoyed the gameplay and the dialoges, good job!
some feedback:
Thank you for the beautiful feedback ^_^ great suggestion for the font outlines - I hadn't thought of that but it could be a far cleaner fix than putting in a whole box!
Yes that's right about the sword! It's because the two attack animations were designed as primarily down and up attacks rather than left and right, which is maybe a tad confusing with how people seem to be playing. That's cool though, I figure the combat was always going to need a little optimising with the minimal time I had to test and tweak it. I suspect adding a running attack with a new animation would more or less solve the issue :)
Thanks for playing! <3
absolutely unforgiving, a checkpoint would have been great. I didn't beat the boss but the art was great
Sometimes that's mortality I guess! I have been thinking that if I expand it further, checkpoints will definitely be added. I'm glad you liked the art, and thanks for checking out my game ^_^
The game playloop is very JUICY and the color pallette/art is excellent, great work :)
Thanks gamer! Glad to hear you enjoyed it <3
A decent game!
That's about all, I enjoyed the game. Seems like you have a lot of potential for your future games!
<3 Thank you so much for all of your kind words and the great feedback! So sorry the boss glitched for you :( that must have been frustrating! Did it get stuck in the walls? I had that happen in my brief testing with the smaller enemies but I thought I'd managed to (mostly) fix it for the upload.
As for enemy variety that's definitely a thing I'd like to expand on. Even for this jam I had another enemy designed but didn't have time to properly implement the mechanics :L but that means it's going to be quick to add in after the jam!
Anyway I'm stoked you liked it, comments like this make the grind feel worthwhile ^_^
I loved the visuals! Very good game! I just found that the attack is a bit buggy when you are moving but great game!
Thanks for playing gamer! :D I'm so glad you enjoyed it ^^
